I’ve always said that about whichever Zeppelin song I was listening to. Same with Pink Floyd, which every song I play is my favorite. Love, love, love them. Annie
"I've got to ramble" means he is a wonderer, traveler, he's going on a walk about...cant be tied down or stay in one place for too long, but when he's done, he always comes back home
To ramble can mean talking without sticking to a point, but it can also mean travelling without any particular end point in mind. It's the latter meaning here. It's about someone who finds it hard to settle down in one place and he's torn between his desire to leave and desire to stay. The music and change of tempo reflect his torn feelings and turbulent emotions. This song was originally written by a woman called Anne Bredon but the music is all their own.
Speaking of which, "Ramble On" is another fantastic Led Zep song...one of my favourites. Brilliant the way they blend folk and rock, acoustic and electric, light and heavy.
@@anthonyinsetta6046 Joan Baez covered it. She heard it from a friend of Anne Bredon without knowing its origins, and thought it was just traditional. LZ heard Baez playing it, and because of her attribution they also thought it was 'traditional' 'Traditional' is the term used for an old song with an unknown writer. Anne Bredon was credited later.
@@heliotropezzz333 thank you I didn’t know that I was watching an interview with jimmy and he mentioned Joan Baez I love hearing history of this band so agsin thank you for your info
If you're a "Led Head" like l am, then anyone of their songs will do. Saw them soooo many times as a teenager and now l'm one of those Grandma's having a great time watching a new generation enjoying the music that my generation grew up with, l feel like it's giving it new life somehow 🤟😜
As my dad likes to say: "I saw Zep live many times. And the fact I remember any of it is remarkable!" His other favorite one is: "I got kicked out of a few Zep concerts. And let me tell you, you have to be REALLY up to some shit to get kicked out of a Zep concert."
This song always meant to me that The Band was going on tour..in the summer. The Tour was calling him. He hates to leave her but he has to go...But he will be back.
I know that’s not what it’s about, but I always liked thinking that it is about leaving his wife & children. I know they loved performing live, but they did hate leaving their families. Plant & Bonham loved being on their farms.
Back in the day, sayin "I gotta Ramble" was just a general term to mean you have to go, or you need to "make changes". It was used for all types of situations. But it basically all meant the same. Such as calling someone a "Rambling man". Means they never settle too long in one place.
One thing to keep in mind.. zeppelins members were steep in the blues. So they use a ton of blues references.. the song RAMBLE ON.. same meaning. Gotta keep going. Remember they were 68-80.. the sayings then aren’t the same.. you got to put yourself in that time.. and culture to understand.. great reaction.. plants voice of off the hook.. he was 19 when they recorded this. In late 68..
@@TRUMP-2024-STF It was written by Anne Bredon. Here's the original song www.bing.com/videos/search?q=babe+i%27m+gonna+leave+you+anne+bredon+lyrics&docid=608027637399291735&mid=411AF59F56C6FF6965B3411AF59F56C6FF6965B3&view=detail&FORM=VIRE
If you want to check them out when they're in their 60's, watch "Kashmir " from the Celebration Day concert in 2007. This was a reunion concert for which there were 20 million ticket applications. The only replacement was Jason Bonham on drums who stood in for his dad "Bonzo" who sadly passed away
It is an amazing song! Off their first album, Plant was 19 yrs old. This track is the studio version (hint listen to the into, it's an acoustic Guitar. Live Jimmy would use his electric) the live very early concert footage has been dubbed in as have the effects. Whoever put it together did a great job. Ramble was a term used as a slang for someone who would move on, not settling or wanting roots anywhere. Beat Club was a German TV show aired each week from the mid 60's to around the mid 70's. Usually had Live Bands with new albums featured. They'd play a short set of a few songs. If you were a major act trying to make it in Germany, getting on the show would be a huge help.
Oh wow i really appreciate the deep detail you went into . you answered my questions thoroughly and gave me a nice little side note on jimmy thanks i really appreciate you taking out the time to write me such a detailed answer. god bless fam
It was very common for new bands from GB to play Germany early in their careers, the Beatles and Rolling Stones, David Bowie, all did it. The video was 1969, Led Zeppelin played a local highschool here in Canada in 1971, and then they were constantly touring North America 1973, 1975.
@@janicemacmillan2610 Very True. Many did travel to Germany and would do shows on the way there and back. Interesting thing about the Zeppelin show here was it was to fill a contract left over from the Yardbirds. That's why it was being filmed. Little did they know then how big Zep would be in the future. At first the fans were a bit ticked off. Until the band played and kicked it !
Check out “The Kennedy Honors” for Led Zeppelin by Heart! It’s an amazing tribute to Led Zeppelin (& emotional). Heart sings Stairway to Heaven wi8th Jason Bonum as the drummer
This is their first filmed performance, I believe. For a German TV show......March of 1969....that same year they did like three tours of the US....and some in Europe.....by the end of that year, they owned Hard rock....
As others have mentioned, this song was originally written by Anne Bredon and was originally recorded by American folk singer Joan Baez. This song is from their first album and is one of the first songs Jimmy and Robert bonded over. When Jimmy first met Robert, he invited him over to see if their personalities and musical interests would mix. When Jimmy played Joan Baez's recording of this and told Robert he planned to turn it more heavy/hard rock, Robert was immediately on board. This is actually the studio cut that they're lip syncing to. When you listen to it again, at one point, you'll hear almost an echo of Robert yelling "...can hear it calling me" which is what he does later in the song. This is a bit of vocal bleed through and was left in. Jimmy didn't mind keeping "mistakes" in the finished product because it added to the vibe.
In the early stuff jimmy would lay down 3 takes and choose the best.. They were more concerned About trying to capture the energy of a live performance than perfection so mistakes stayed
Henrietta, thank you always for your knowledge and insights. One comment, though: I wouldn’t call this ‘lip synching’, per se; I believe that videos of old performances were synched to the studio recording, right? The thought of Led Zeppelin and Milli Vanilli in the same breath makes me shudder…
@@dalmac5978lip syncing to their own music by bands that were performing live on TV shows were standard practice around the world up through the 80’s at least. Milli V weren’t doing that. They literally weren’t the actual recording artists of the songs that they were “singing” to. They were more like performing mimes.
I understand this is subjective BUT.... saying this is one of their better songs?? TRUTH BE TOLD.... there isn't a bad Zeppelin song. Every single song is a masterpiece in it's own right.... Love Ya RDiss, but I HAD to point that out!!! :) Keep "ramblin' on" with Zeppelin.... Peace Bro....
I love you reaction, i really think that you have to see they performance in 69 on Denmarks Radio! Man, you gonna love, and yes Robert always have this "thing" in led zeppelin albums, and this song " Baby i'm gonna leave you" is from their first album called " Led zeppelin I" is a great album and a great experience.
Definitely one of my Zep favorites. Displays their musical range with Blues, Classical and Folk influences with their own heavy rock nuance added in. The fact that this level of sophistication came out on their debut album speaks volumes about the maturity of the musicians before they formed Led Zeppelin.
I agree with you RDiss- I’ve always liked this song, as tough/ depressing as the lyrics are.... he’s conflicted between sowing his oats or staying home (ALLL the time with his love) and being monogamous.
Robert Plant was 19. This was their debut album, and every song is a full-on masterpiece. Best drummer in the world,, may he RIP. Best guitar, best vocals. They hit the music scene and made it their bitch, and we've always been so glad they did!
One thing you need to understand about Zep,they are 2 bands, studio and live. These are 4 virtuoso who support and challenge each other, they are unmatched in rock and roll, the Beethoven of our times as you can plainly hear. I appreciate your ear.
Man RD, I gotta backtrack and check your earlier LZ reactions - if you haven’t done Achilles Last Stand or In My Time of Dying, man those are killers IMHO.
You've done the young Zep, now watch them in their sixties. KASHMIR, live at CELEBRATION DAY, with John's son Jason on drums. I swear, it's one of their best live performances EVER. I've seen other reactors do it, but I love your enthusiasm for the greatest band of all time. Love from the UK x ❤️
I am a big Led Head as you call us, loving your reactions to this epic band. There is one song I would like to see you react to, The Lemon Song from Led Zeppelin II.... it really showcases JPJ and his bass line is amazing.
With "ramble" he means he's gotta bounce. The middle instrumental part tells you he's talking about war (the sound is similar to air bomb attack alarm siren in WWII in Europe). So he feels he's being called into battle - but he tells her in the end that he'll be back.
your GOD OVER EVERYTHING hat is awsome. i was born in 1955 in st albans navy hospital. moved to hawaii in 1961. weve had TONS OF REALLY GOOD MUSIC in my time. LED ZEP has been 1 of the TOP music groups of ALL TIME. YOUR ARE JUST SCRATCIN THE SURFACE of this stuff. peace and aloha to you. ROCK ON.
i have been watching your music reactions only a few days and I AM IMPRESSED BY YOU , YOU ARE GETTING IT, YOUR APPREACTION OF THIS MUSIC SAYS ALOT ABOUT THE KIND OF PERSON YOU ARE. peace and aloha to you.
Oh yea LOVE this song, I remember playing it over and over and over on my record player. 63 now, this is my music, wait for us bonzo, we will be there soon now.
This is a heavy-duty arrangement of a bluesy folksong called "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You". I first heard it performed (with folk guitar) by singer Joan Baez. --don
I've seen this before, this was their first recorded appearance. It was done on a Danish show. Ramble on is also a term used when we're leaving to explore without any particular destination in mind, just away from where we currently are. I'm often told I have a gypsy soul that likes to ramble. LZ also has a song titled Ramble On. They didn't pay for this. They were guests on a show in Denmark. It was late 1968 or early 1969.
In this case I got to Ramble On means I've got to go away, walk get away from you , that type of thing. Your mind me and my brother man kind of look like them and you kind of sound like them and you get the same mannerisms. Damn brother is just fun watching you go through this stuff it's like when I was young and the new album was due to come out we will all like like you are now. All excited and shat. I think you got my meaning. My brother was a huge fan of rap I only like certain songs in rap because that's just the way I am the way I am. Watching you get illuminated buy these old songs reminds me of when I was a little kid. I'm serious bro enthusiastic is all get up. And you should be. You're listening to one of the greatest bands there ever was . if you take that combine or look at that toward today's music you'll understand why because the days music seems all the same. That's why I still listen to the classics the real stuff. God bless hope you keep listen to it.
This is off their 1st album, they are only a few months old here. They recorded the whole album in just over 30 hours. A lot of bands spend more time than that just putting 1 song together!
What the song 🎵 is about is Life as a Rock Star ⭐ I'll hang out with you babe till it's Time to tour on the Road again ⁉️ The show must go on babe 🎶✨♥💕
@@ROMsquad , in my honest opinion, when you're ramblin' (vocally), I doesn't appear "too" confused to me, though... I like your reactions, interpretations and explanations and it seems that in this space and time the two of us meet at an unexpected point, coming from quite opposite directions, me (born 1967) having grown up with like Led Zep, Stevie Ray Vaughan, generally more the blues-rock-hard rock genre and just now starting taking really notice of hip hop (of course I knew it was around like in the radio, and some homies listened to eminem or run dmc or other 90ies hip hop stuff, but I never really got into that) since recently I discovered Tom Macdonald and Ez Mil (and the whole "reactions" thing going on in youtube), and all of a sudden I really enjoy it (and you and other good reactors play an important role in me getting able to enjoy it, so thank you for that!) - while, with you it seems you drive in the opposite direction... All the best to you and your channel, keep rockin'! Best regards from southern Germany (Bavaria). Btw, in case you don't know Stevie Ray Vaughan, check him out, maybe in an first time ever (for you, virgin...) authentic reaction to him. For a start I'd suggest the video (live) linked down below... but be aware, he's another endless rabbit hole... :-D - but do we like that? I think yeah... ;-) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KC5H9P4F5Uk.html
Beat Club was a German TV show that showcased lots of new and upcoming bands from all over Europe in the early 70"s. It has its own RU-vid Channel now. There"s hundreds of archive performances including a great early one from Black Sabbath.
Just watched an interview with Carmen Appice/Vanilla Fudge. Led Zeppelin was opening for them and John Bonham was a dan if Carmen's, so Carmen's called Ludwig drums and asked if they could get John a set like his, Carmen said "I think they are gonna be big!!!" Ludwig listened to their album and gave John a new huge set, just like Carmens!!!
Let me help you here. First, excellent reactions. You understand what you are listening to and express your opinion very well...Good job. From someone who was in 7th grade when the Beatles came out here you go. Best Hard Rock band.. LZ, Best Rock Band...The WHO.... best progressive band YES.. Best band by far will no close second the Beatles. Classic rock has never been beat in 50 years. Keep listening and you will see that.
Back in the 80's an FM Rock DJ named Mike Harrison was playing a 70's interview of Page, and after Page mentioned this song, the DJ played the first verse of the Joan Baez version, then segued into the intro of the Zep version... It was even the same tempo. Amazing what they did with this song! 🤘🔥💕
