Being a 69 yr old Bass player, I've played just about all their songs and still do in a Rock cover band. This is an amazing thing, young people discovering this now! I love it!
@@davidbullock1101 Yes, but she did listen to the best version, amongst all the bootlegs, etc. It's been said that the TSRTS versions were generally less than stellar but this one was not one of them. The Song Remains the Same itself and the Rain Song were the other standouts on that album. Maybe No Quarter. There were some moments on Whole Lotta Love where they got into the zone.
Stairway to Heaven can in general be argued to be a candidate as the song with the best guitar solo ever made... And this version in particular is the one that removes any right to argue about it, stealing the top spot by a landslide.
The notes that Page elicits from his guitar on the solo are simply staggering achievements; the notes sing, they cry, they wail, they laugh, they lament, they journey, they mourn, and they ultimately bring us to transcendence.
Everybody in that van was stupendous. John Paul Jones was absolutely extraordinary. And rest in peace Bonzo. Sweet prince of drumming. One of my favorite drummers ever.
@@sthubbins4038 I don't know, in the 70's, everyone had Vans. But what I don't get is why he is calling them stupid? And isn't "Extra- Ordinary" and oxymoron?
This is from the movie they did called The Song Remains the Same that is semi documentary. But there you have a lot of live performances and it is sooo good. This is one of the best songs ever.
I've met Rob Plant in my local Co Op supermarket, he was looking at the Classic Rock magazine, wasn't impressed because his Band of Joy album had just come out, and he said to me look at that, he has being with us all week eating our food and drinking our beer and he has slated my album, he then said I'll get him or words to that effect 😉😂 he lives five miles up the road from me, such a genuine guy, not up his own ass like a lot of them, been known in the pub after a few beers to get up on stage and sing, and when he heard about a little lad with brain cancer in the town, he arranged a concert straightaway, Having this played at my funeral. 🤘😎🎸💀✊
I was fortunate enough to have seen them live several times in the 70's. Great band, all four were so great at what they did. But Bonzo drove that engine with his drums, and JPJ is often overlooked, but he is a great musical genius, Jimmy is a guitar God and Robert has the voice of an angel.....this is why they are ranked as the number one band from this ERA the music still holds up.
The beauty of Zeppelin is that they never play a song the same way twice. They are the gods of ad lib playing. Some great live songs are Whole Lotta Love (Live at Royal Albert Hall 1970) and Kashmir (Live at Knebworth 1970). A couple of my favorites. You can't go wrong with Immigrant Song, either. Looking forward to this series. Other greats artists would be Rolling Stones, Doors, Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix, Loving Spoonful, and Heart to start with. 80's hair bands would be Motley Crue, Poison, Def Leppard, Ratt, Bon Jovi, Guns and Roses, and, of course, Skid Row. As someone who actually grew up with the 70's and 80's bands as new artists, this exciting and nostalgic for me. :D
In 1973 I was in the front middle third of the floor seats at the Chicago Stadium. A sound engineer was right in front of me. His meter reading was 120 dB in Row 30. The sound quality was flawless and the intensity was overwhelming.
Great reaction. Now watch them beeing honored at Kennedy Honor Senter with "Hearts" doing a cover of this one. John Bonhams son playes the drums...Epic.
11:05 🤘 Do NOT apologise. It's a joy to watch a new generation rock out! Brilliant. Imagine 10,000 young ladies swooning like yourself when they were in their prime. Rocks Gods!
Really, it's so good to see young people appreciating a great band like Led Zeppelin. Although they're not my favorite band, i love their music. And, if you're such a huge fan of Led Zeppelin as you say you're, then you might enjoy these songs i'll recommend - that I don't see people reacting to: "All of my love" and "The song remains the same". #LedZeppelin4ever
I was so sad when they mentioned on the radio one day that he'd hurt his finger like 3 weeks before we were going to see them. Never noticed it. It was 24 Jan 75 I saw them. Was sure they would cancel.
@@Cashcrop54Cleveland! One of the best shows of the year. I'm surprised how Jimmy played better when his fingers were hurt than when they were okay as the tour progressed. March 75 isn't very good for jimmy whereas February and January kicks serious ass.
I have been listening to this song (especially on live) since I was a teenager back in the 1970's ,and I still oftenly listen to it . Never get bored ........this music is very inspiring........
Sounds like you are under the Plant spell, many a young woman have fallen for the wonderful talent and Man. Any song from the same Film will not disappoint. All the Best.
Jimmy Page had four different versions of the Stairway to Heaven solo. Every concert he would play one of the four versions of this solo. I saw these guys in 1977 in Baton Rouge, La. These guys loved hanging around the French Quarter in New Orleans. I ran across Jimmy and Robert a couple of times in the French Quarter hanging out in the Royal Orleans Hotel bar.
I grew up with Led Zeppelin, they were the best period ! I can still listen to this like I just heard it for the first time. So much power and integrity.
Millie you should check out Kashmir Live from Celebration Day, this was a one off reunion concert with the original members with the exception of the drums but these were payled by John Bonham's son Jason it is truly exception
You're adorable in your reaction. Girl, we all fell in love with the beautiful Robert Plant when he first came on the scene. The way they backlit his hair on this one, he really was Jesus to us.
Loved your song snippet at the beginning! Love that pop rock style. Led Zeppelin is one of the greatest foundation bands. So much to study and learn in their catalogue. Masters
Yes, I adore them, too. I got to see them earlier on this same tour when they played at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park for an afternoon gig that I will never forget. I've seen many great concerts, but that one still ranks at the top of my list. They opened with "Rock and Roll," as they did for this Madison Square Garden gig. That video is out there, so go grab it, Millie! 😉♥️ t.
I enjoyed seeing you really get into it. They were (and still are) two gods of the music world, which when you see this stuff, you realize it all comes out of some spiritual world, where the magic of music emanates. This performance was definitely magic! To see them in their prime like this, it's hard not to be in awe. And much credit to Bonham and Jones. Have you seen the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors tribute to Led Zeppelin? In particular , a very powerful rendition of Stairway to Heaven, by the Wilson sisters, from Heart. Rock ON girl!
Great reaction!! Girl, I feel this same about RP... absolutely mesmerizing. I love seeing other people react the same way I did to seeing him/them live. This was the 1st video where I witnessed their greatness live, and holy crap! I always thought Robert was a handsome man, but I'd only seen him older. When I watched this about 3 yrs ago (I was 53 at the time)... whole other level of "handsome"! 😋🤤 The voice, the face, the jawline, the HAIR, the chest, the V, the feminine blouses, the jewelry, hip hugger bell bottoms, the belt buckles, the wrist flicks, the sideways smiles, the ad libs, the playfulness, the long beautiful legs, the elevator shoes, and last but certainly not least, the lack of undergarments. 😜 And... the whole looking like Jesus with that golden light on his golden hair. 😱💜 I can't with that man. He's almost 75 and still oozes his sexiness. Can't wait to watch more of your reactions!
I think the only thing that stopped you going full headbang was wearing the headphones! incredible song, and one of the best live performances ever. Great to see you enjoying it so much
It just reminds me of my reaction to hearing this for the first time when I was your age Millie. It is sensational to hear/see LZ live. The improvisation of a perfectionist as Jimmy is, is just amazing to hear. It is also truly amazing that the music from 50 years ago is still appreciated by the young today. Today, when walking in Brighton, I saw a guy with a LZ Knebworth T-shirt on today.
LED ZEPPELIN Robert(I can sing any note in human history at this point in my youth)Plant! Jimmy(I’m one of the greatest guitarist in human history)Page! John Paul ( I’m the bass, keyboard, mandolin and just about any string instrument on the earth playing recorders here which sounds like the flute)Jones! John(Call me Bonzo and I’m the heaviest hitter of drums in human history) Bonham!
I love to see younger people, Rock to what I grew up with. I’m in my 60s. You don’t know how gratifying that is …I’m just glad I got to watch them live…
Great reaction! Led Zeppelin were brilliant live! Another classic band that you may not have heard of are Van der Graaf Generator. They are (yes, they still exist, though their first album came out 1969) a British band and were especially successful in Italy, where they were absolute superstars and celebrated like the Beatles, and this is no exaggeration. They consisted of Peter Hammill (vocals, keyboards and guitar), David Jackson (saxes and flute; his specialty was playing two saxes at the same time, as you can see in this video at some time), Hugh Banton (organ with bass pedals and sometimes bass guitar) and Guy Evans (drums and percussion). David Bowie was a huge fan of them. Other prominent fans are Rob Halford, the singer of Judas Priest, Bruce Dickinson, the singer of Iron Maiden, John Lydon, the singer of the Sex Pistols, Marc Almond, the singer of Soft Cell, Julian Cope, the singer of The Teardrop Explodes, and Robert Fripp, the guitar player of King Crimson. All the people mentioned, including Bowie, were at the reunion concert of Van der Graaf Generator on May 6th 2005 (after a hiatus of 27 years). Robert Fripp actually said about Peter Hammill in his autobiography: "What Jimi Hendrix did for the guitar Peter Hammill did for the vocals". You should like this video of them. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--CA1k_b2NvU.html
You should watch the live Kashmir from celebration show .. when Jason bohnam played drums they were older but you would never know it .. Truely amazing
Millie, oh Millie. The lust in your eyes, the longing in your smile, the love in your moves! If you had been at that concert I fear you would have launched yourself on to the stage! LOL ;) Having said that, good on you young lady! Turn about is fair play! Great seeing you rock out to this classic band! I came of age in the 70s. Best damn decade for music EVER - with the exception of disco. I am sorry for that!
Legends of Rock, for sure! You can enjoy this entire Madison Square Garden concert, in 1973 on DVD; "The Song Remains the Same". One of the earliest fairly decent quality recordings of Led Zep in their prime. Own a copy of History, today!
If you have not already seen it I would suggest watching what many have called the best Rock cover by anyone ever (big claim) - and a truly epic performance. The tribute cover of Stairway to Heaven by Heart played in front of the three remaining LedZep members - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LFxOaDeJmXk.html This was at the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors - where Led Zep were being Honored. The band asked Jason Bonham (son of their late drummer) to attend but he said he had another engagement that night - little did they know he was going to be on stage playing drums for the tribute cover!
Natural Progression 50 years ago when I was young first Country at about 12 then ELVIS at 14 then BEATLES at 16 then ROCK at 18 then Heavy Metal and on and on - over 70 and still LOVE IT !!! :-)
The BBC Sessions album has one of the first ever live performances ofcthiz song. Nice, polite round of applause at the end as the audience were waiting for music they knew.
Millie, You cutie-pie have selected a great title for this series... Jimmy is amazing for several reasons, but keep in mind he has been in the business since the 1950's. Over 1/2 of century, you should be good, should be!!! Jimmy is beyond good he is stellar! The bracelet on your left wrist looks like it is from "Mad Max" I have decided that you would have fit right into my generation. In other words you would have been / are a rocker.... In the mean time, please take care and crack on.
Led Zeppelin brought power to the stage before they started playing. When I saw them in 75 they were like mythical beings to me. Then Bonzo started playing his drum for "Rock and Roll". I felt like I got punched in the chest when they kicked in. Same thing happened in 77. Just their presence had the crowd at a high level of expectation. Try Rock and Roll from this same concert here. Great watching with you!
