Page was wasted and often not in attendance during those recording sessions due to his horrible heroin drug addiction....leaving Jones and Plant to do almost everything. Bonham was also in the throws of kicking his own heroin addiction....which he did not long before dying due sadly, to his other addiction, alcohol.

John Paul Jones played all the keyboards in Led Zeppelin. He was a virtuoso on both bass and keys.
@philosopher0076
@philosopher0076 3 года назад
John Paul Jones plays about 17 instruments VERY WELL....and is one of the utmost..I say again..UTMOST RESPECTED premiere bass players on the planet and was an in demand studio musician (as was Jimmy Page on guitars) in the 1960's playing bass on tons of other artists albums as a studio player.....then he joined Led Zep. And he often plays keyboard, organs...while at the same time playing the bass line with his feet on a bunch of bass pedals on the floor. He did that live in concerts too. He also plays flute, recorder, mandolin, 12 and 6 string guitars, pedal steel slide guitars, banjo, ukelele, church organ, pipe organ, jazz organ (Hammonds etc.) , piano, bass, harpsichord, harp, upright acoustic bass, violin, cello, double bass with bow, synthesizer, Mini Moogs etc, mellotron....and on and on and on. You get the idea. He's a genius musician with tons of soul, writing ability and creative, improvisational ability/chops....plus lightening nimble fingers when he wants to fly on the bass neck....like almost no other player in rock, blues, etc. (For proof of this, listen to The Lemon Song (studio version) or live versions of Communication Breakdown from the early 1970's or as example The 1973 Madison Square Garden version of Whole Lotta' Love (The fast crazy middle section where Page is using his hands with the antenna of the small electronic box called a Theramin.....listen to John Paul Jones bass lines during that section. Insane ability. )

Yeah, this was a brutal time for Robert Plant and the band. He almost didn't come back from losing his son. They never played the US again because he was over here touring at the time when his son died, and before they could return three years later, in 1980, John Bonham died during rehearsals. In the end, Zeppelin died hard, but they lived hard for the 12 years they were here. Greatest band ever. Full on.

The Honey Drippers/Sea Of Love studio version. I'm not sure there is a live version of this. Led Zeppelin couldn't release this song under their group name, so they did it under another name! It was a top 20 hit in the late 70's and one of their few covers, originally done by Phil Phillips in the late 50's.

Legend is Robert Plant's son had recently passed away and John Paul Jones had a big part in producing this album that's why there's so much keyboards in it which is kind of different in the Led Zeppelin album. But the story that I've heard is a grieving Robert Plant was driven to the studio, went into the studio and sang this song in ONE TAKE!!! then got back in the car and left while grieving for the loss of his son... that's why it's such a heartfelt passionate song... loving your reactions

John Paul Jones did all that keyboard work. The cool part that I never realized myself for a long time is that when John Paul Jones is playing keyboards, the base for the group is done by a foot pedal on the keyboard. And not an actual base guitar. He does do the base guitar though such as on the song Ten years Gone. But that was just something I realized because when the keyboards were playing I never really saw anyone playing a base guitar.
