I would say that between 1965-1975 this ten year period might be the greatest decade in music ever. The bands that were coming out and some were at the height of their powers was just breathtaking and most of them were legendary bands. Just an amazing decade.

I was fortunate to see Zeppelin five times… in 1972, 1973, 1975 and 1977. And I was at the iconic Madison Square Garden shows in 1973 that were in the film… First and foremost Zeppelin always was about having fun. And for them having fun was never playing anything the same way twice, constantly exploring and improvising. Their creativity was mind blowing and their various styles and genres are a testament to all of the different types of music they loved. More Zeppelin reactions Millie, please!!!

When I was about 11 years old, my aunt won 4 tickets and backstage passes to the Beatles concert at the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston. After the boring concert (I couldn't even hear them the girls were screaming so loud!) we were escorted into a hallway and pretty soon the Beatles were walking toward us. As they passed John Lennon stopped, tussled my hair, and asked if I liked their music. Being a well raised, southern farm boy I just said "Yes, sir" to be polite. He smiled and kept going. It all happened in the span of about 3 seconds and at the time meant little to me. It was only later... Be well, Be happy! Duke :)

Nice thing about Led Zeppelin is that the songs definitely don't lend themselves well to sing-alongs, and the songs were so much there for the audience that people didn't shriek at the band like those kids did to the Beatles. I never saw LZ live, and have lived to regret that very much. The fact that there is so much "live" LZ music attests to that fact. No audience interference. The Beatles contrast is interesting and significant, I think. I've always had the opinion that's I'd never have enjoyed a Beatles concert, precisely because of the noise from the screaming teenie-boppers. I notice something similar, back when Grace Vanderwall still had her mojo (she lost her groove when her family moved to California and hasn't gotten it back) - all the people in the audience knew her songs by heart and felt free to join in, which she seemed to encourage. I'd have asked for my money back, if I'd gone (I didn't try, forewarned by the videos), because I'd paid to hear Grace, not the out-of-tune rank amateurs in the crowd around me. But the Beatles were something else - the shrieking and screaming were deafening. I guess that the sound from the instruments and mics had to have been fed directly into the recording equipment - I doubt very much that mics trying to pick up the ambient sound would have maxed out from all the noise. I mean, is there even a "live" Beatles' album anywhere? I don't recall one.

LZ were so great when live and loud! This track of course became famous as the intro for TOTPs for years. Masters of doing live versions of what is a masterful studio recording and making it sound even better! Just imagine if you could time travel Millie and see these guys live 50 years ago. We might have met 🤣 Or maybe we have?

Very astute statements about Zep, young lady. Bravo. The band formed in 68. By Jan 69 they released their debut album which is incredible. At some point the start touring. Before the end of the year, Zep II came out and it is also incredible. I believe in 1970 they did the same thing- release 2 more albums! This concert greatness we just watched together was during their 2nd/3rd year playing together. They were so in sync with each other that when someone goes a certain way, the rest of the guys can follow like nothing. The recording studio was simply a concert with no audience for these guys. Idk if they did, or how many songs were recorded in 1 or 2 takes but I wouldn't doubt these guys could walk in and 20 minutes later, a new song was complete. Great reaction, Millie. You should DEF check out the entire show, (with us of course) 😊 God bless. ✌🏼❤

I seen Zeppelin in 1975 and again in 1977 and they are so in sync that you are correct they don’t do the same song the same way except for maybe Stairway but even Robert Plant will through in comments while singing the song. Also, Jimmy Page live is a rock god his guitar seems to talk and no I wasn’t tripping.

Robert Plant was one of the great improvisational rock vocalists. The band had to constantly be in the moment to follow along with him and that's how they developed such great chemistry/sync. Jim Morrison and The Doors had a similar dynamic.

Im glad you truly recognize and appreciate that this was done and performed 60 years ago. Back in the day, Bands made $ by selling albums and then touring live concerts. A 3 minute song you heard on the radio was a 10 minute song live in concert. Bands had the freedom to perform however they wanted live in concert. Sometimes it was the best stuff! Enjoy!

Them staying within a chord progression and having that main riff as a home base it allows them to improvise without getting lost. No matter where they take it, they can always bring it back home. Plus they were a real tight band that knew where each other would likely take the song. All four were fantastic musicians.

How can you have such a high inflection in your voice while reacting to music yet have such a dull monotone voice when singing?
@Arkryal
@Arkryal Год назад
I love how even ignoring the lyrics, the song is structured musically to sound like sex. A lot of repetition in the main song, for a long time, very rhythmic, slowly building in speed and intensity. Then Robert Plant begins his "moaning" section... "ah, ah, ah, AH AH AH!!!", as the music becomes distorted in the background and fades a bit, and then it erupts into a euphoric Guitar solo from Page. If they didn't sing a single word, you would still know exactly what the song is about. It's not subtle at all. The music is more explicit than the lyrics. It's easy to notice that in the song, but it was genius to compose the song that way.

In my opinion the studio version of Whole Lotta Love is even better. Remember they recorded on 64 track tape, and you can overlay multiple instruments, and vocals. So potentially Jimmy Page could play a guitar solo with a guitar counter melody and rhythm guitar on the same song. LZ was great, maybe the best in the business at their studio versions of songs and albums.

Led Zeppelin was a great band, but they are known for lifting ideas from other bands. In this song, Plant's lyrics are based on a 1962 Muddy Waters song written by Willie Dixon called "You Need Love," where Waters sings: I ain't foolin', you need schoolin' Baby, you know you need coolin' Woman, way down inside The band reached an agreement with Dixon, who used the settlement money to set up a program providing instruments for schools.
