Ledisi's voice is amazing! You can tell she's was trained for opera because of the strength of her vocals, her enunciation, the way she projects, and her breath control. She did justice to this song and I think Tina Marie would be proud. :)
I'm impressed with her rendition. It makes me smile with satisfaction. If a singer can take on and master a Teena Marie song, that singer has my utmost respect.
Nice tribute! But I think Bet and Soul Train not to mention other music shows, could have given Teena a much grander tribute given her over 30 years of contributions to the music industry! Teena although celebrated, never was given the accolades she deserved when she was with us! She should have won a Grammy and should have been given a star on the Hollywood walk of fame, she certainly paid her dues and earned it the hard way! You give people the flowers while they are here, not wait till they are gone. There will never be another Teena Marie-----EVER!
Well said!!!! Teena was the best at what she did and there hasn't been anyone close to her talents since she hit the scene in the '70's and left us a few years ago.

Ledisi puts it down allllllll the time. I have to see her live. She is AMAZING. Teena Marie was one of the best. She definitely doesnt get the respect she deserves.

Ledsis did that. Few singers can take a song like this and perform it to fit their tone and pitch. The performance is a 10 base pure talent. Ledsis has an amazin voice.
I think people on here comparing Teena & Ledisi is not the point. Its the respect that Ledisi obviously has for Lady T. And i think if Teena were alive to hear this rendition of her song she would be proud. This a tough song to sing - the way Lady T did it.. (nothing but respect to Ledisi) Rest In Power - Lady T
You are correct. And Teena Marie had a very unique voice. No female R&B singer sounds like her til this day. However she did Teena justice. It's about time somebody pay some attention to Teena Marie.. Great job...

U remember Melvin's facial expression, from The Temptations, when Paul was singing at the Christmas party? That's, exactly, how I felt. I finished looking at the video an hour later, cautiously. Ledisi vocals were on point, after the screaming. Concerning my vocals, thank you. I attribute my range to Prince.

Do People even know the true talent of this lady? I saw her live at the Filmore Jazz Fest in San Francisco a few years back. Ledisi gives you EVERYTHING. She leaves it all on stage. I saw James Brown perform 3 times in the mid 70's. Ledisi gives it to you like that. She's gotta be the hardest working woman in Show biz! I always thought no one could replicate a Teena Marie song. I was wrong.
This was a lovely tribute and the photo of Teena in the background whilst Ledisi belted all those difficult notes really made this an emotional experience for a Lady Tee fan ❤️
I saw her in LA for a concert, a year before she passed. Keith Sweat was her opening act. She gained weight and aged, I wasn't quite sure how the concert was going to turn out. It was the BEST concert I've ever been to. The girl had energy and more. She played several instruments and sang like only she could. Being from LA she played into the next morning without missing a beat. Many have tried to emulate her but do not have the tools to accomplish such a feat. She had a wide vocal range and was much better than she gets credit for. I usually prefer OG songs versus remake, but her rendition of "Wishing On A Star" is better than the original. A voice that will never be forgotten.
DragonLo Teena did pack on some pounds but she still had a pretty face. And that voice!! My God nobody sounds like her and that range makes me say Ooo La La La..
First of all, this is not a competition. She's not trying to outdo Teena; Simply paying tribute. Ms. Teena is/was one of kind and Ledisi is an extremely talented vocalist;underated if u ask me. This is real singing! They are just two women of soul and should not be compared. Love Teena Marie! Just enjoy!

Why people talk like this, it's easy to sing if you have a opera voice, Rick James had that opera voice and created her to try and go there, I can see a lot of black women artist that can hook this song up.......

Yes, I saw her perform this song live in DC and she definitely found a new supporter in me. I was very impressed. I grew up listening to Teena Marie's music as one of my mother's favs in the 80's. Until now, I believed no one could cover her music. This is so beyond what I expected. Go girl!
Yes! She did kill this song! I luv Teena and was thankful I went to the Jazz Festival when she came to Philly. Will be dearly missed and Ledisi damn sure deserved a standing ovation...

No one can sing that song like Teena Marie; however, Ledisi got real close! Great rendition of a blue-eyed soul sister that always brought it real. Ledisi is one my personal favorites because she is a true songstress!
I watched the Chaka Tribute and Ledi sang. Although she did good...she made the bad mistake of going into the audience and egging Chaka on to sing..BAD MOVE because once Chaka opened her mouth...you immediately knew the difference and she politely and respectfully showed why she is CHAKA!
Beautifully sung, Ledisi took that song and did it justice. My only wish would have been for Teena Marie to have gotten the recognition and accolades that she deserved. She was a true Icon from my generation and for generations to come. You will be truly missed Lady T, Ivory Queen and Lady White Choc..
This album Starchild was released when I was in the 5th grade. I have listened to it ever since then. One of my favorite albums... I never saw Ledisi perform it. "Out on a Limb" and "We've Got to Stop Meeting Like This" are my two faves. RIP Ms. Teena.
