Ah hello Leeds!
This is the start of a new district and one that's actually a city. This is Leeds, and most of it's 38 parishes are out towards the East of it's boundaries. Leeds is a huge city, one of the largest in the North of England, and most of it is unparished. That doesn't mean that we won't see some "Loidis"-related places though here!
One such place is this village. This is right in the South Eastern corner of the district, sharing the "Led" prefix with a neighbouring village and partly with it's parent city. "Loidis" was an ancient region of Northern England, and anywhere with the "Led" or in the case of Leeds itself "Leed", related at one time in history to it. This then is totally a Leeds related place despite sharing a lot in common with the neighbouring Selby parish of Fairburn.
Here you'll find a church that's the oldest standing building in West Yorkshire, dating back to the 700s. You'll find a village that's quintessentially typical of the English countryside too, surrounded by lots of thick, lush woodland and with a crocket square that wouldn't look out of place on your average British postcard.
The village forms part of the Ledston Estate, managed by The Wheler Foundation who also run a similar estate in Kent. This village is almost like Ledston's little brother, sharing a similar name, and as we'll see, a similar history. A lot of the this place revolves around one Lady Elizabeth Hastings who's name is given to the church school in Ledston.
At £753,000 for the average house, you'd be hard pushed to find anywhere that's not exceedingly beautiful in the parish of LEDSHAM.
