Here is the story behind this song: Three song writers met up, during their meeting, Harrington shared a story with her co-writers that she had heard on NPR' s Here And Now about a father, Paul Monti, whose son, Jared Monti, had died while saving another soldier during a battle in Afghanistan. When asked how he would remember his child on Memorial Day, the man simply said that he would drive his truck, which had been left exactly as it was when his son left for war. SFC Jarod Monti was awarded the MEDAL OF HONOR for his actions in Afghanistan. Look up the ciatation.

We played this song at my husband's funeral. He did commercial fence, and instead of a hearse, his casket was driven on the back of his truck, which his best friend drove. He always said when he died, he wanted his last ride to be on his truck. I made it happen. The truck with this song made every man cry at the gravesite as they took him off the truck. He wasn't suppose to die at 45 with 5 young kids at home though. 😢😢

I was heading back to the hotel and this song came on. Had to pull off the road and had a good cry before getting back on the road. It also reminds me of driving my husband’s truck the day he died.

I've been drinking Bourbon for many years. I live in Kentucky and have tried many many Bourbons. We grow up with it. I can remember when you could literally walk into a liquor store and pick up Old Rip off the shelf....for less than $30. The new Van Winkles don't really taste like the old ones to me. The Pre-2013 Van Winkles was the last of the old stash. Those are unicorns. If any are left, you won't get it. Even back then, you could walk into a liquor store and get 1. No price gouging, no lotteries, no lines, no bottle flippers. It's crazy what Bourbon has turned into.

I forgot he is also a partner (2017) in a company called American Born. It is a whiskey company. Their signature product is an American Born, Bourbon Whiskey. Lee said "I believe in family, hard work, and that the American way is about quality and doing your best. It’s how I was raised and who I am. I’ve finally found a whiskey that reflects the same values, so when it’s time to wind down after a show or dive into writing music, you’ll find me sipping on a glass of American Born.” Maybe you guys should try it out.

I was found the next morning by a couple boy scouts and the one's dad. My mom flew out to be with me in the hospital and was told a few times that I would be dead within 72 hours, and the one time two my closest friends took the pickup I had at that time and where kind of beating on it, when they got home they got a call from my mom telling them that I was awake and that we would be heading up to the V.A. in Minneapolis the next day.

Well, this is another country song that absolutely delivered! I’m a girl and I love songs that send a strong message but also hit you in the heart. My grandfather served in three wars. The war did not kill him, the alcohol did. Back in the day, that’s how they treated PTSD… They drank! 1978, my grandfather was on a two week drinking bench and ended up in the hospital. He had eight massive heart attacks, then his kidneys shut down on him. He ended up dying from pneumococcal pneumonia. My grandfather raised me the first 7 1/2 years of my life. My uncle, was 10 months younger than me. We listened to all of my grandpa‘s war stories, which he made them to be funny for us. I learned two things from him, respect the flag, respect the uniform! When I listen to this song, it gets me! I respect every man and woman who has ever served in our military and/or are serving. They have my respect! My heart feels for every person who has lost a loved one in the military, regardless of how they died. Thank you so much for your service and thank you so much for reacting to all country music, but especially to songs like this! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 LadyGator1983

Just so you know, when vets get together, it's usually the funny stuff that gets talked about. And civilians really don't understand how much absurdity exits military life. There's PLENTY of funny stuff to go around. Most vets, those are the stories they tell amongst themselves. The only thing different about what they'll say among each other, and what they'll typically say around family/friends/civilians, is that in their own circles, the humor can get pretty damned dark. Still hilarious to us, but dark AF. - Keith

@@BourbonCountryReacts I do get it! My grandpa raised me the first 7 1/2 years of my life. I was almost 13 years old when he passed away. His youngest son, my uncle and I were raised like brother and sister. We would sit around him all the time listening to his war stories. But I do get it! I watched him drink yourself to death because of all the crap he went through. He was in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He started out in the 82nd airborne division. When his knees gave out he joined the Air Force. One of his brothers joined the Marines and his other two brothers joined the army. Crap, I’m getting choked up right now. I grew up around military all of my life. In fact, just a couple of miles from my home is the Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek South Carolina. From first grade through high school, I grew up with military kids. I’m grateful because I grew up around diversity. It just occurred to me… A lot of people want to know how come the kids I grew up with all of my life are still tight as friends today. I think it’s because of the military. We always have each other‘s backs. I’m grateful for you right now. When you do reactions to certain songs that bring the military in play, it brings back memories of my grandpa. One of my favorite pictures is of me as an infant, sitting on the front porch with my grandpa. He was holding me on one leg, next to him was a bottled Coke a cola and in his other hand was his lucky strike cigarette. Damn…

Great reaction guys. Now here's the thing about country music country music is designed to reach out and grab you by the throat and to impart the emotion that the song and bodies. That emotion is what drives the story. That can be something lightweight and funny it can be something joyful it can be something incredibly deep or it can be something incredibly anger-inducing are sad. But when you listen to a country music one way or the other it's going to hit you in the fields. Because that's what country music does.

Great reaction guys!! This one really does hit one in the feels. This song always reminds me of a family friend, Alain. He was in the Army, but made it home, seriously injured, but mostly recovered. He did eventually pass away due to complications of that injury. But the song reminds me of a happier day and memory. Yep, I ended up driving his truck, he drove the U-haul I had went to pick up... largest size they had, seat would not move and I could not depress the clutch OR brakes all the way.. my 5'2" self just couldnt reach. Of the 4 other people there that day Alain was the only one who could drive a standard AND was tall enough.. cause me mother was 5 foot flat. So I drove his truck, he drove the U-haul. When I want to feel his memory, I take the top off my Moms old jeep and drive down a back road and envision him in front of me on his Harley. Something that happened quite a lot.

Lee played football in high school and got a scholarship to Clemson University were he was a long snapper for the Tigers. After a injury he decided to focus on music. He started out as a songwriter then transition to singing. He also wrote a song called "Orange Empire " to fire up the home crowd one season. Go Tigers!

That was a new one for me. Wow. I won't lie, I am crying. This reminds me of a woman I know, who lost her twenty-year-old son when he came home while his home was being robbed. He knew the people, so they killed him. 15 years after his murder, his mother still has his car. It doesn't run. Hasn't in years. But she has it in her backyard and she refuses to let it go. Her husband and her daughter have tried telling her it isn't healthy, but I can't judge her for needing that connection to him. Great reaction. Still can't believe I haven't heard this before. It's a true country song, in how it tells a story and hits you hard in the emotions.

Gotta get that pain out however you can. Nobody gets helped when you don’t process it somehow. I had a very close friend die in Afghanistan and it damn near killed me. Wanted to beat everyone and everything, not a healthy reaction, but nobody teaches you how to deal with that. They teach you how to shoot, there’s no instructions on a dead friend. Process how you need.
