Loads of Bacon(James) is offering an indispensable accessory for the Lee hardness test kit. Available at The Reloaders Network for a very reasonable price.
I'm glad you like it Dave. I like the Lee kit, but I've always felt like I needed at least 3 hands when trying to use that scope. It's actually a joy to use now. I appreciate the kind words!
Great video my friend,I need to get one of these,I have stopped powder coating for now,I have a lot of bullet's to pull,I have now realized I cannot "store" at least for long period's my Harbor Frieght red powder coated bullet's loaded with LongShot powder,it eat's the paint off of them and screws up the powder and I have squibs after a two years of storage I loaded about 3000 round's and fired great, except all but 200 or so and they layed around for two years or so and smokers and squib's and ruined a 1911 barrel with them...so back to the drawing board......KEEP ON ROCKING IT!...Thor's Axe
Eric, Long debates can spin around whether to powder coat or not, powder coating was something that came along after I was set up with my star units. I have opinions base on my experience and the results that I see in the process. I have come to the conclusion that powder coating has breathed in a new life to a stagnated craft. people have reported that they have had the same reactive results with powder coating being deteriorated away by certain powder propellants. in any case one thing about traditional lube/sizing, you can't let lube and powder fowling bother you and realize Inaccuracy is 90% you and not the firearm. I feel that people clean their firearms way, way, way too much and all that taking it apart and putting it back together causes unnecessary wear on the firearm. anyway, powder-coated bullets fill the needs for 90% of the shooting public. -Dave
@@Thorsaxe777 Thank You Dave for the input, I sure do appreciate it ,I am allway's learning and am a work in progress as I like to say......I love powder coating my bullet's and shooting them, I did not realize the short coming's of it though ,Like I said,I am allway's learning..Ihave never even tradionally lubed my bullet's yet anyway's?...Thank's again for taking us along on your reloading journey and putting the effort into sharing your time with us!........Eric
@Thor’sAxe that stand is pretty great! But me being a cheap skate and looking for cheap easy free options. I’ve come up with a pretty much Free Hack for the Lee Hardness tester. I take my .452” Lee bullet sizing die, which I’m sure all is casters already have, or at least some sort of die that’ll work. I put a wrap or two of tape around my Lee tester Scope to make a nice snug fit in the .452” sizer die, also to protect both parts. I place an O RING on the top end of the Scope to help keep it in position I want it(Tape can be used also), place the scope into the .452” sizer die, place another ORING on the bottom side of the scope( also to help keep the scope where I want it), place the rig onto your press, and Viola, you have a nice sturdy holder for your hardness scope, use the V BLOCK in the shell holder location and you’re off to the races. All you gotta do is hold a light and adjust the ram to right height and slide the bullet to right location. Turret presses make the hardness test seamless. Place the indenter die in one station, and the rigged up scope die in another. It’s GENIUS and works perfectly! I can’t believe I’ve not seen anyone else do this already, because it’s so simple!!
Dave - Never have been a fan of the Lee HT, because two different operators will come up with two different readings...This stand sounds like it will obviate that....hmmmm... Thanks, Steve
One thing about the Lee test kit, It is pricy. also, because of variables in people there will be variables in the test process and that leads to variables in test results. like all other aspects of producing any process, consistency in the process produces consistent end product. I believe that lead hardness was something a lot of people didn't worry about because of the cost, back in the day, the only serious test tool was the Saeco and that was way over budget for 90% of all home crafters. even the lee kit is pricy for people to justify balancing their need for one. That is why the kit is a subjet controversy.-Dave
I always thought the Lee Tester should be used in a single stage of turret press. The Press would function like a microscope stand. All you would need is a die to hold the microscope and a shell holder.
