LEE LITTLE STOPPER vs. BIG STOPPER at Midday. Field Test.

I wanted to get to know better 6-stops neutral density filter - LEE's LITTLE STOPPER. I was interested in its behaviour in the field when it comes to colour cast, and if it blocks exactly 6 stops of light or perhaps more. So in this video, shot in Mörbisch am See, at Neusiedler lake, I am taking series of pictures starting with no filters, then with ND grad, and then with little stopper, and finally with big stopper, and am comparing all of them in details.
Neutral density filters are great for shooting long exposure pictures during a day. At sunny midday I combining those two filters I was able to exposure for over 4 minutes, completely blurring water and clouds.
I hope this video will be useful for you.
If you have any question, please comment.

Thanks for posting this video. What I really like is we can see as you try different exposures and different filters to get the effect you want. In other videos the photographer immediately knows how long to expose a shot, which filter to use, etc. In real life it's trail and error, an experiment and learning experience. It give confidence to us mere mortals who can't go out, take 10 shots and they're all award winning shots. Thanks.

agree, good video. You show steps, explain what you are doing. very useful, I like how you seem to be filming as you actually do it, changing filters etc not perfect every time so it seems real not rehearsed and fake. keep it up thanks mark.

Video was awesome. The live shots through the 1DX looks pretty typical with heaps of black dots from crap on the sensor. I sold mine and moved to Nikon as Canon in Australia won't take ownership of the problem. Lee is definitely the way to go in my experience, their optical quality is amazing.

Thank you so much for your great video. One question please. I'm using Canon 24-70mm f2.8 diameter 82mm and 16-35 f4 diameter 77mm. I wonder which filter size is suitable for those lens to eliminate vignetting. Thank you so much.

You should try out the Haida filters (both 10 and 6 stop square 100x100mm) - you will be amazed by the quality and the colour cast is virtually nonexistent! You should try a side by side comparison

Hello! I switched from the Nikon D610 to the Fuji XT-2. Will you recommend the Seven5 or the 100mm system? I know there is some vignetting with the fuji 10-24mm below 11mm or 14mm with a polarizer but I like the small size of the seven5 system. Is there any compromise with going with a smaller system? Thanks!

Hi I just got big stopper, one question I am using f16-22 iso100 is there any way I can get a lot slower shutter speeds then what i am getting around 1/60 or faster without big stopper about 17 secs with Can I use exposure compensation Ideally I would like to use f8 Btw I am using Nikon d7200 18-105 lense Thank you
@JerzyBin
@JerzyBin 9 лет назад
Daemonforce Gaming In bright light you cannot, that's why you have to use neutral density filters to cut the light. If it's bright and you go with lowest iso, close down completely aperture to f22 or so, depending on the lens, that's it. If correct exposure tells you 1/60 or 1/30, you have to use filters or wait for the sun to go lower. Exposure compensation is only to overrule camera settings if you in auto or semi auto modes. With big stopper when your shutter speed is around 1/30s you can go to around 30s or one minute.

NISI came out with new technology that tremendously reduces the blue cast. I have lots of filters from NISI and i threw away my LEE filters.

Clean your sensor, how annoying is that!? Also, try moving your glasses away from the microphone, it sounds like shit when they keep bumping the mic. Your video makes it sounds like you need some more practice with filters. Maybe try the med grad instead. Booyah!

load of crap,,,, heres what you do,,,, set you f stop to f8,,, iso 100 -200,,, set your color temp to 10 k if your cam can do that this will neutralize that blue tint and warm up the end result,,, you can focus your camera using live view with the filter in place,,,,if you wish,, do turn off AF and IS.. finally,,, take the shot,,, and trust me it dont matter how long your exposing say over a minute or more it will come out perfect...i also combine the little and big stopper on the same holder.....one the front and one at the back, it does not matter which is positioned where ,,it all works for me,,, and the bonus is no need for any post,,,,,,,,enjoy folks....

Nice, Mike! I like the combination of the little and big, to creat a super stopper instead of buying it! With regard to WB, is there a way to kid of 'fix' an AWB? So, say the camer AWBs say 8K is there anything on the camera to tell me that's what the AWB is set to?
