"Popping" primers when using the Lee loader should be a rarity. I've popped one in 50 years, and that was when I was first learning. The two things that make popping primers more likely with the Lee kits are #1 misaligned primers and #2 striking the seating rod AFTER the primer is fully seated. The misalignment is addressed by careful positioning of the tools and the striking after fully seated is addressed by #1 cleaning the primer pockets of any debris (a small screwdriver will suffice), and #2 by checking a couple of times during the process of seating the primers. It isn't a nail - full force hammer strikes aren't needed. Several moderate to heavy taps will suffice. And yes, a non marring hammer is important. Decent video. 👍
I have just bought one of these in 308. Only extra thing I bought was a set of digital scales. It produces really good, consistent and accurate rounds using X-Terminator Powder and 168Gr PPU Match Bullets. I am never in a rush to load ammo and can produce 50 ish in an hour. Perfectly adequate for my needs.
These are convinient setups when you get a new to you gun and want to play with a couple variables. Get to know the gun and what it likes and doesnt like. Fire off a some factory ammo as a start point. Chrono, work from there.
I don’t see that happening. When you are seating the primer you are hammering it against the primer seater. When you are seating the bullet the case is sitting in the case holder which has a hole over the primer so you are not putting any pressure on the primer to detonate it.
Nice video showcasing the Lee Classic Loader. I have a couple of them that I use. When I wanted to get one of the kits for 300 Savage, I found that Lee doesn't offer the kit for that caliber any more. What I did then was to move up to the Lee Hand Press. I wish that I would have gone that route in the first place. The hand press is a definite step up from the hand loader. I like to take these reloaders with me when I go camping and spend some relaxing time, reloading ammo. I was lucky and bought a lot of reloading components a few years ago, when it was still available and affordable.
I love these things! This is exactly what old man Lee invented them for, when you don’t have access to your loading room or the money for all the equipment ! Once you get used to using them it’s surprising how quick you can reload spent ammo.🇬🇧🏴
