This song was so underrated and so was Lee.I loved this when I was 17 and I still love it just as much..Fantastic memories from that time for me, I will never foget..
I'm 68 years of age and this song still makes my heart skip a beat! Great music NEVER dies! Ahh ... Yes, it was an honor to experience this music first hand back in the day! ☮💜☮
I experienced what he was singing about when this song came out. Kinda opened my eyes to what I was doing with ladies. The whole thing was surreal. How awesome it is to look back on mistakes.
lee michaels,he's one of those very few artists that you could have not heard him for 25 or 30 years but soon as the song starts you know every word, every nuance of the music,he gets it across to us profoundly.
I was fortunate enough to see Lee Michaels play at the out door Starlight theatre in San Diego. It's funny because if you watched a play there, the performers would have to freeze mid sentence till the planes flew over. Lee Michaels did not stop playing when the jets flew over. His organ drowned them out! What a great memory!!!
The piano, organ, and outstanding drumming. What a great pop song. It's been 50 years since I first heard and it still rocks. In and out of my playlist for decades. Steering wheel drum song.
Man does this song instantly take me back to my teenage years! Am I that old? One good thing about getting old? It happens to everyone. Nobody is immune or singular.
You're a "baby" with good taste. 27 at the time of your post? I am guessing you got into your older siblings or parents record collection like I did. And you're right. Good music never dies.

Haven't thought of Lee Michaels in years. I saw him along with Jo Jo Gunn and Head East at the Palm Beach Auditorium in 1972...my God, how old am I??!!
Oh how I miss the 70's. No computers and digital crap. People were people and life was good! Likes this song and made out to it several times back in the day! I feel for our youth!
I was 8 years old in 1971 and LOVED this song then and STILL love it now!! I found a vinyl copy of the album in a vintage record store in recent years and grabbed it up!! What a killer tune!! Thank you Mr. Michaels!!

I listened to Lee Michael's first album when I was just a teeny-bopper, 16 or 17 years old. It blew me away! Guess you had to be there. Just raw vulnerability in every line.
Was 6 yrs old when this came out.My Pops used to blast this one in the car, liked ever since.Seems like yesturday, many Great memories to tune. Thanks for the Post.:)
WHEN I SAW LEE MICHAELS...FROSTY'S BAND SWEATHOG OPENED THE SHOW KEITH KNUDSON (DOOBIE BROS ) PLAYED DRUMS FOR AN INCREDIBLY IMPAIRED AND LOUD LEE,,COULDNT REMEMBER WORDS..HE WAS UPSET STANDING NXT TO HIS OWN POSTER AT VENUE...NOBODY SAID A WORD TO HIM...I LOVED HIS 1ST LPS AND FROSTY WAS ONE OF MY 1ST MENTORS
I recall this album in my brothers records and I loved this one lil kid dancing my self into a frenzy I am glad I had hippy brothers older then me I went to alot of concerts !!!!do you know what I mean
From a deep funk/R&B background ... but we knew a groove when we heard it ... this was one of them ... very danceable even though its supposed to be a sad scenario.
loved hearing this again. Caught him playing many times in LA in the late 60's early '70s. He was usually the headliner too. At a show in Pasadena Alice Cooper was the opening act and another time, at the Olympic Alvin Lee and Love, Taj Mahal played before LM took the stage. Another time at the Shrine Captain Beefheart was the opener, never showed, and then eventually Lee Michaels and Frosty got to play but after a couple songs the fire marshal shut it down because people stood in front of the stage after he said not to do so. That pissed a people off and a mini riot ensued in the auditorium and on the street.
I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it. I bought the album and this was the only song on it that I liked. I always considered it a waste of money. I am glad that I can listen to this single on RU-vid whenever I like.
Know what ya mean there, been on that road. That was the big disappointment when buying albums. That's why Utube is so great. I can pull up any song ever recorded and loop it forever if I want to.
I was a working musician through the 60s, 70s and 80s and used to sing this song a lot in the 70s...... and still have the album I bought in 1971. I sat here and grooved to Lee and beat the drums on the two arms of my TV chair sitting in for "Frosty." I don't know that other drummer. I'm an old codger at almost 80, but I could still play some solid drums on this with Lee. lol
I 1st heard about this song when i was kid in the 80s and loved it ever since imagining how hard it must be to write a top 10 hit with no gutairs in the song well done

Soooo beautiful......thank you.....I have never been able to "forget" this song from the time I first heard it....ohhh so long ago....so clear.....wonder why?....lol......ahem....did anyone catch that?....not surprised....peace...
Hitchhiking into T.O. and all the cars and trucks that would give us a ride had this blaring...hot summer days bare feet bluejean cutoffs and long blonde hair, we were 14 and having a ball...
1974 Phoenix Az. last year of a four year hitch...painted my room on Bethany home rd. all in one night , listening to Lee Micheals... Do you know what I mean???
Hotstuffandicecream, great job. Halter tops.... A great invention of the 20th century, seemed like every chick that wore one was really cool!!! and guess what ... Guys did'nt wear 'em back then ! GOD bless you!
It never ceases to amaze me how many conversations I've overheard between Her & Bobby that go something like this, "It is kind of like, I mean, sort of like, you know, almost like, "Do You Know What I Mean""?
Saw Lee do this song in Cleveland Auditorium. Fantastic and just as good if not better then the record. The concert featured Fanny, Jo Jo Gunne, B.B. King and Lee. All were great live. There may have been a 5th act but I forget.
Hard to believe that was almost 40 FREAKIN' YEARS AGO, & Lee's 65...I was a scared boychik, having recently been dumped in a boarding school..This & a few other songs, kept me from going COMPLETELY batty..
saw him in LA at the shrine auditorium. The fire marshall kept fucking with us all so he just walked out after 2 songs and we had a riot burning 2 cop cars. I, of course just stood and stared at 16. How much music he could get out of an organ, drums and bass. Fantastic. haven't heard from him in 50 years.
