He was a magician. For some he wasn’t taken as serious because he hit a fade. But now we understand how much he actually knew. He hit a fade because he could control it like radar. He could hit draws any time he wanted but he didn’t need the extra distance. His swing adapted to the shot and he had a thousand variations.

Alexander - I believe he was the greatest controller of a golf ball EVER - had he not been struck by lightning, and had he not had a blind spot about the Masters, he would have wom twice as many majors. One of my biggest regrets is never seeing him in the flesh - I went to the 76 Open (British) and, because of his injury, he didn't play.

I did. He gave a shot clinic in 1981 at a golf course close to Merion just before the US Open that year. He was absolutely amazing, hitting the same trajectory, distance every single time. He wasn't long as compared to the tour average, but his control was jaw dropping. This was also after he got hit by lightening in Chicago in 1975, back surgeries prevented him from practicing as much as he did prior to the lightening strike. It is conceivable he would have won some more majors if not for the injury. Very entertaining too, loved his humor.

What a great, wonderful man this Mr. Trevino is. He's turned out to be a good example for all of us with his love and kindness to others.
@dennislaux
@dennislaux 7 лет назад
But he's so much more than that don't you think? He's a great father now (yes, better late than never) and a good kind hearted man. If he can make a ball dance or not isn't the issue to me, because so many young kids can do that today and some of them are simply thugs like Dustin Johnson for example. Anyhow, we both respect Lee so that's nice to see.

Oh please.....this is a game that has standards and elevates us to higher ground with class and dignity that so many built before us and it seems you k now very little of that aspect and if I'm wrong I apologize. Dustin would go sell the stolen things his friends got from breaking into the neighborhood houses robbing them when he was 19 and he was no CHILD.... bought a gun so his pal could murder another kid....bought bullets for the gun for him....twice kicked off PGA for cocaine abuse, two drunk driving and several pot charges, having sex with his PGA PALS wives and on the list goes. I'll stop here as I'm wasting my time I think. When character means nothing to some people, then I'm wasting my time talking. good luck to you.

You have issues it was a simple question. Does being argumentative make you feel good about yourself
@dennislaux
@dennislaux 7 лет назад
You're right. I'm sorry about that but It's been a really poor day and I'm used to people falling down with praise for Johnson when they know nothing about him. I'm totally for men like Palmer, Nicklaus Player, Jordan and Ricky and those type that make me proud to be a golfer. Character means nothing to the vast majority today so I expected an argument and was wrong here. I tip my hat to you and say thanks for correcting me. I've never fallen down three stairs in my whole life, nor has anyone I know, but three steps brings down a world class athlete so they can't play....Pardon me if I'm suspicious of even that story with his background, but I really don't know in this case. and honestly don't care. And this is what seals the bad deal for me. When asked by the media about his sorted background and helping murder someone, he simply smiles a little with that empty blank stare of his and no personality and stutters out..."I ah, ah, I ah really don't ever think about, about it ."

"Hitting down on the ball" greatest tip ever!!
@amfohr
@amfohr 3 года назад
Yeah unfortunately it is not always interpreted right, like he explained some start to cock the wrists to early and hit at the bal with a steep angle. That is not what he means. He means that the ball should be struck just during the descending arc of the swing. There is no intention of the player to hit down. The same applies to hitting up with the driver. There is no intention to hit up. You just position the ball in a way that it is struck during the ascending arc of the swing.

Want Lee says about the subconscious mind is the reason 95% of recreational golfers fall off balance without realizing it. They will start off balance by resting club dead on the ground to grip and not taking any practice swings to check if swing path is balances and hands are turning over like a hinge, not pulling away from body and ball as they turn over which is leads to a slice “you can’t talk to” 😂 Then they start the club back on an unbalanced path, too inside like the kid in the video Lee corrects, which starts to pull them off their feet backwards. The subconscious brain detects the balance problem and intuitively solves it by swinging the club somewhere that won’t pull them off balance by flipping the club mass up closer to the center of rotation (like a figure skater pulling in arms to spin faster in balance) away from the ideal path for the golf shot and putting club head out of position when changing direction at the top of the backswing. The outside the hands takeaway using hip action is the same one Hogan and his contemporaries used. It tries to pull the golfer off balance but in a direction - thanks to the way the feet point- which is easily countered by a bit of leverage by angling back foot on the instep and shifting upper body mass forward of the center of rotation with a lateral shift of the hips backwards in the takeaway move < / hips bump back and turn, front leg bends, pelvis tilts forward to target, upper body mass also tilts forward all with the same subconscious reaction to the unbalancing force but in a way that puts the club head mass at a point in 3D space when it forces the wrists to cock which swings it put on the perfect path to the top setting up the ideal backswing. Jimmy Demaret once quipped, “The golf swing is easy to master once the golfer learns to keep the club head outside the hands and stay in balance.” That’s a riddle because keeping the club head mass outside the hands (as Lee demonstrates) is the key factor for starting and keeping the swing in balance. Lee’s comment “Good backswing if you can’t touch the head, bad backswing if you can.” is equally priceless advice as was his description of how the ball need to be compressed into the ground and climb the face to generate spin. 👍

Truthful observation. He was totally different when he stepped off the golf course. You have to remember his personality was formed in object poverty for the first couple of decades of his life, dirt floors, no running water growing up, no education to speak of. He admitted that inside he never felt comfortable or as good as the great players, which is interesting given he was one of the best ever. He used humor and an extroverted personality inside the ropes to cope with those feelings. Some who knew have said if he had to play as a serious player all the time he would not have won as much as he did.
