Honestly man I don't think it's possible to give this game a sequel. I feel like any new gameplay features you could add to justify calling it a sequel would just take away from the experience. Maybe the best thing to do would be to give Left 4 Dead 2 a full remaster in Source 2 and maybe make a new Left 4 Dead game that offers a different take on the IP. Maybe a spinoff.
honestly, i agree. i feel like some games just reach their peak mechanically, and any additions or changes after that just ruins balance. Halo 3 to Halo Reach is a perfect example of that. sometimes you just perfect a formula, and leave it at that :^) kinda like CS:GO
@@kel_ski Doing "sequels" in general is hard. Be it movies or games. Often times the first movie was the best and the second ok but the third pretty bad. Same can be said with games, there is just so much you can do to build on an already perfected Formula. And you have all the expectations in the world on your shoulder just to disappoint at the end.
true, the only reason we didn't get left 4 dead 3 was because Valve couldn't force a decision on Left 4 Dead 3's development, which was make it on Source 1, or wait for Source 2.
"It's a shame a lot of good games are ignored because they're, like, 2 years old or whatever". It truly is. Older games(2007-2015) were the shit and blow modern games out of the water.
i feel like ~2015 is when AAA studios started really going downhill and stopped trying to push any sort of boundary. if you look at games like dying light, battlefield 4 or far cry 4 they look better than most big games coming out nowadays because devs actually had to try and make a good game instead of making a good battle pass. god i wish live service gaming never took off
I remember watching my mom play L4D when I was a kid and begged her to play. One of the best games I've ever played. One Christmas I got LFD2 and my life got even better
It’s funny, because I’m an older Millennial and my dad was who got me into Half-Life when it first came out. Crazy how time flies. Cherish the moments.
I remember I was playing with a friend on L4D2, and unfortunately we got hit by a thrown car by a tank, the AI were also hit. We all got downed instantly and died, best part is that my friend started blasting half-life 2 male citizen gasps and yells. Also the tank was hank hill, “10/10 Would buy propane again” - IGN
Most people tend to forget about the little details but the location damage on body parts, how the zombies fall depend on where you shoot them, the audio queues, even the music just *chefs kiss* Like a really good soup where everything blends together perfectly.
i’ve been having such a fun time honestly going back to older games, especially with how tainted many modern games are man… thanks for watching though 🤝
Back4Blood is exactly what was to be expected, L4D without a crazy amount of Valve shine, if anything it perfectly shows why Valve is so highly regarded and why Turtle Rock cant survive without them. The amount of detail and attention that goes in Valve's titles is absolutely insane, but people tend to not really think about half of it until they start comparing with other games, putting B4B side-by-side with L4D2 is jarring as hell, like they forgot about half the game. But then you realize Valve made that other half of the game 😂
Which is a crazy take in my opinion because I love B4B, more than L4D2, but it's difficult to play these days because the playbase is so small. I think a lot of the people who bash on B4B didn't actually play it. As a game it's insanely fun by itself, and it really expanded on the L4D formula quite well. But I guess most people care more about graphics than gameplay and want a simpler, bare-bones experience and don't like change and complexity added to the formula. Specializing in a specific weapon type or gameplay style? That's no fun, apparently. Let's all play the same character with the same basic abilities that never change and approach each situation the same way! Character choice, card choice, weapon choice, etc all matter in B4B, but in L4D your choice of character is irrelevant to the gameplay, and there's no card system to allow you to change how you play. But hey, the zombies ragdoll with more realistic physics, so who cares about player choice.
@@jazzyj7834 What you point out I do agree with to an extent, I love the increased weapon variety and the cards system was a pretty interesting spin on the formula imo. Generally the issues I've noticed when playing are that none of the characters/survivors are nearly as memorable as the L4D crew, the fact that so many of the special infected looked so similar to one another that they were difficult to tell apart a lot of the time, no mod support (Probably why L4D has survived for so long), and the campaigns being way too long imo. With all of this combined, I just lost interest. Obviously most of these gripes are subjective, but I think if a few were addressed, B4B would still have a decent sized player base.
That’s not actually why it sucked. It sucked because only 3 people who worked on L4D worked on b4b. And by the way, when it comes to the original L4D, valve barely contributed to the actual development. It was mainly turtle rock
I’ve been playing this game for about 13 years now. I would not call myself an “expert”, but I love this game to death, and I’ll never get tired of it. Recently, I convinced a few friends who haven’t touched the game in years-or at all-to play with me, and we had an absolute blast as I taught them about the game’s intricacies (and lowkey carried them, but it’s a learning experience for them) Even when we messed up hard, we were just laughing it off, ready to tackle the next attempt. Man, what a beautiful game this is.
I remember my cousin would tell me to turn off the flashlight for the tank to not see me, and when that situation finally happened well you can guess what happened next.
To be real, i’m tired of playing L4D official campaigns and almost wanted to buy B4B but mods and custom campaigns just pull me in again. Custom campaigns and skins just made L4D much more enjoyable to me. Hope people will keep making more custom campaigns to keep me entertain for more. (I already have about 100 campaigns so i might be a bit greedy there)
Don’t worry the community is still pretty active in making custom maps. (Currently I am working on a Space campaign and Anime Tokyo campaign. I cannot wait to release them.)
@@mogabimapping41 I wish you the best of luck! I know how time-consuming they are to make. I tried making a simple single map campaign and I ended up abandoning it. I looked at it not too long ago to see if I wanted to finish it and realized I completely forgot how to use the hammer editor lol. I wish I had the time and passion for modding and map-making cuz there’s so many ideas I wish I could implement. Again, good luck and I hope they turn out how you’d like them to.
a surprising amount of people i know my age have never touched this game, which is actually criminal. hopefully it was still enjoyable to watch even if you’ve already played!
5:00 wonder who that jockey player is... Great video as always, loved that intro and can't wait to see that Deep Rock Galactic video soon. Keep doing you king 👑
Years ago, when l4d was released, I used to host a community server since I wasn't 18 and couldn't just buy it. I remember spending all day trading items in TF2 to get enough to buy the game from another player. That is also how I bought every single game, ever. So, at one point some people actually joined and they were asking me to spawn stuff for them, then I figured out sv_cheats 1 would allow them to do so themselves. I had fun from watching their in game chat. That's how good this game was. L4d2 is basically all that and more. Especially with the mods. Ranging from hentai to just fun. New mechanics, everything. Skins, new weapons, name it. There is not a valve game I dislike. And this comes from the dude with 600 TF2 accounts. (premium) Worlds cannot describe how much I appreciate Valve for their hard work.
That’s amazing! Hope the game is still fun for you. I’m 14 and I heard about this gem, I bought it 2 years ago and this is still my favorite horde shooter, this will always be a game I come back to.
I loved this game a lot. It is a very honorable game. I wish newer games had this kind of effort put into them. There's variety and everything is just fun.
After completing all the campaigns on expert for the achievement I remember how much fun left 4 dead 2 is no matter how long it is you keep coming back (I really hate the jockey ai tho)
It's because it's the best execution of the genre from the word go. You can stop playing for years and pick it back up like nothing has been lost. Modern versions of it have a constant barrage of FOMO to try to keep people playing, but all it does is make people drop the game entirely once they take a break for longer than a couple months. The loot and cards don't actually add anything to the games besides a skinner box, and people tend to get annoyed with those once they realize they're being manipulated.
Fun fact: has a positive community and comments on the game and also unique this is why this game was still alive thx for the custome maps made by the creative community and challenges and modes also versus so basically it's the perfect zombie game in my eyes.
man i’m glad this game is still getting recognized, i literally grew up grinding all the achievements with my dad and now that i have my own pc i still get on this game alot
i have mad respect for the classics, because i genuinely feel like they still deserve peoples time to this day, especially the people who missed out on em
This is pretty much the only game I play. You can jump in and out of a game at anytime and leave feeling satisfied with your time spent playing it. There’s nothing to gain and nothing to lose, just a purely fun game to entertain you for as long as you spend playing it. It really is one of the only games I can think of that relieves stress for me. I don’t like to compete, grind, or dick around with customizations (I’m looking at you, card system from B4B). I play video games to have fun, and that’s all I get out of Left 4 Dead. People want a L4D3 and I would love that as well, but if something is good enough, just be happy it exists, there’s no need to wish for more when you have everything you need.
The last time i played L4D was like 2009ish. I just picked it back up again after i got a gaming PC and just found out about custom campaigns. There's custom campaigns out there that are just as good as the official ones!
This game has been a childhood nostalgia for me. I remember playing it when I when 6 or 7 years old and I still remember playing it. If I ever have a old console or a pc I would download this game the moment I have the chance
Left for dead was one of my first games to play when i was younger other than cod op2 I loved this game to bits and played this game for hours Its totally Underrated
1:01 I can’t even front, Ghostbusters The Video Game was legit a great game and had a fun Multiplayer that for some reason is still active on the Xbox 360. Has to get off topic because Ghostbusters the Video Game is a great game and has a fun story, hope you cover it one day.
@@kel_ski to me, it has a great story that legit makes it like the third film, and the multiplayer was a lot of fun and I was very sad they didn’t incorporate it in the remaster versions
The VS. Mode community may be sometimes be a joke these days, but with the straight-forward, yet intricately tuned mechanics; the memorable campaigns & endlessly charming protagonists, it’s a game that never fails in cheering me up. And our endless wellspring & devine gift from Gabe himself that is: The Steam Workshop. (~ still a bit scorned the Last Stand update permanently disabled workshop addons in vs. mode tho [at least on proper servers].)
I played though every campaign on expert mode when the game came out which wasn't the greatest experience, because sometimes people shoot you in the face. Beating Swamp Fever on expert mode is probably the hardest thing I've ever done in gaming. The fact that game is now 14 years old makes me feel really really old.
One time my lobby somehow got the hack where you crouch and you speed through everything, and you one shot everything.. did it for every campaign on expert and I got the realism achievo too! after I got both achievos the hack just randomly disappeared. It felt like a blessing 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I wanna take this chance to remind y'all of one of the many reasons I've lost faith in Valve over the years: complete lack of management. L4D3 was already in the works. Entire first chapter completed, knew what direction they wanted to take it, assets made/reused for alpha & beta testing. So what happened? Internal disagreement over whether the project should be in the Unreal engine (or Unity, one of those Un-engines) or be one of the first new games in Source2. The team was split 50/50 on this decision, and since they couldn't agree...they stopped. That's it. They just stopped the moment a single dispute came up because Valve lacks management to see a job to completion.
had this in my reccomended funny video subbed and look forward to watching more and seeing your other content, always nice to see some L4D love aswell great video man
Hey new sub here. Saw your DRG video first (Rock and stone, brother) and came over to look at this old classic. Great video! I'm sure I'm only the 200th person to mention it but if you're looking for games that were very directly inspired by L4D and can, if you're being very uncharitable and reductive, almost be called L4D reskins then I'd suggest Vermintide 2 for that medieval fantasy take on the genre and honestly before playing it I never realized just how endearing of a character the enemies can have when they're not mindless grunting zombies but adorable, murderous rat boys (and friends) who actually talk back at you. For a sci-fi gothic take you could try Darktide, the newer game by the same studio. It has some issues with progression right now but man if the atmosphere and core gameplay loop isn't fantastic. The biggest mix-up to the formula that game adds is probably the fact that there's lots of enemies who actually shoot back at you instead of try to claw your face off.
First time play this in 2013 on my cousin's laptop. I thought this was just a typical zombie shooting game that actually turns out to be a masterpiece. Love it till today
I remember when this game came out, me and my cousin would always play the demo on the Xbox 360 After weeks of playing this my parents got the full game for my birthday, man me, my friends, and my cousin had a great evening that day :')
Forgot to tell about the awesome songs in this game, also the audio makes a big difference to give your team warnings of the dangers ahead and enhancing the co-op gameplay.
I was addicted to this game when it came out. I'm kinda sad I dont have any friends to enjoy it anymore and people just play back 4 blood which I dont like.
I still play it a lot to this day, have about 2k hours on my current account on Steam. It's BY FAR my favorite game of all time and the amount of content you have access to via the Workshop is never ending.
honestly i don’t blame you, the amount of value this game has is honestly mind blowing. that’s cool you still play to this day! DAMN though 2k hours? i need to get on your level
The campaign section of the workshop isn't filled with campaigns and is filled with anime mods which I hate so much. And speaking of that the L4D2 workshop has barley any good content as of late, sure there are some good mods but most of it is just the same anime girl but with less articles of clothing each time.
This game will forever be the king of zombie co-op shooters, i have just too many fond memories of this back on the xbone and got to relive it a good bit on pc
"You need teammates" And then you see a random on youtube parkouring his way out of a full campaign taking no damage without the help of any player nor bot(they kill bots at the start)... well, I guess this people had 14 years to master that...
this vid perfectly captures the casual play with friends gameplay, not rly focused on the competitive aspect just the sheer fun aspect whilst explaining the game itself as a whole
I'd say vermintide 2 got a similar result in quality with the medieval fantasy feeling instead of the urban dystopia, but it's no as widely spread. Still, can't deny left 4 dead is still the goat on legacy alone
One game that I've played that has come somewhat close to a slightly similar experience to Left 4 Dead has been Anacrusis. Its probably not going to be the next Left 4 Dead 3, but if the early access issues get ironed out it could be a fun and worthwhile experience.
