I like when Left Brain rhymes "together" with "together'. They're providing a good idea but don't have the creativity to propose it with a better rhyme.

Left is also saying very emotional things in a detached way while Right is saying very logical things in a connected way. They can't ever truly separate.

As a therapist. Im highly impressed with your knowledge of both the differences and the importance of both. You described this piece of Bo’s inctedible, factual, performance art beautifully. Bless your wonderful wife for being a positive influence on stressing the importance and magic that the right can help the left create. ❤️

Notice how throughout the song, left brain's parts are composed completely as synths and right brains parts are composed completely out of real instruments. Once left brain starts to comfort right brain however, talking about doing comedy together, the synths and real instruments also play together, rather than seperated. this 100 percent is symbolic for how they were at war and didnt know how to live in harmony together until that moment

5:54 I think it's more that you're Supposed to just feel some things and deal with them emotionally. It's easy to overthink things, the left brain taking over everything and a lot of people do it specifically to avoid having to emotionally deal with things which ofc isn't healthy. But it's art, I mean it's all open for interpretation but that seems more fitting and closer to what Bo might have been feeling and thinking with that part God how you called the comedy thing tho damn

YAY!!!! I fucking love this song so god damn much. You’re reaction was awesome as always. You called it from the beginning as to what it’s about. And yes, I’ve watched reactions to this song countless times so I’ve caught all the subtleties haha. My therapist is also a Bo fan and has used this song in sessions. The whole “left brain, right brain” idea is actually scientifically inaccurate. Our hemispheres don’t function that way with one side supplying logic and the other supplying emotion. There’s some merit to certain parts of the brain being more active depending on what you’re doing or feeling but it’s not how Bo portrays it. Which is totally fine, he’s an artist and a topic like this is much easier to digest when it’s simplified. However, when he says “I am the adult, you are the child”, that actually does have merit psychologically. That’s a nod to “Structural Analysis” which is a legitimate psychoanalytical theory. Basically, what Bo is portraying isn’t the left and right sides of the brain, it’s the different ego states duking it out over Bo’s needs vs his responsibilities. The “left” side is the internal adult, the “right” side is the inner child. The basic idea is that sufferers of anxiety, depression, or some other kind of emotional disorder have a splintered sense of self. A great example is something you pointed out, suppressing your emotions. A lot of men in our culture (myself included) are taught from a young age to push down emotions that get in the way of whatever task is at hand. “Man up” “don’t be a sissy”, that kind of shit. The problem is, when we don’t let our emotions flow naturally, our “egos” become divided. The inner child needs to express emotions in order to process them. When it can’t, anxiety, depression and other issues can and will abound. The way a therapist would approach resolving this dichotomy is by teasing out the emotional needs being ignored and get the “adult” and “child” to have a conversation. Which is EXACTLY what Bo does and is why I love this song so much. Bo is performing the mental drama of an actual therapy session. The disembodied voice is the therapist, and he’s the 2 egos. The adult is overbearing and in need of full control, while the child is acting out more and more to shake off that control so it can have its needs met. It’s just the best. I know art is subjective and I could be completely overshooting the runway on this but them’s be my thoughts. Cheers!

My guy hit the the nail on the head. Ironically, this song is a meme of itself. Talking about how we're never purely in one particular mentality. We could be thinking about things that are unrelated to logic and then you know it's just as easy to flip over to that impartial side and we do it unknowingly. It just kind of depends on the stimuli and the individual.

You're doing great with your reactions! I think you've reacted to just about all of Bo's songs that I liked. I think I enjoy these videos because I understand it's your first time watching them, and I genuinely want to know what someone else's thoughts and first impressions were! I feel like your reactions keep me from bothering my husband all the time, showing him new videos haha, and "hey watch this RU-vid video" is not appealing to everyone. But you fill that need for me, since it's like I get to share the videos I like with someone else, and also get to hear new opinions I would have never thought about, or criticism that makes me rethink my own perspective. Thanks for being a virtual buddy!

It's crazy how honestly insightful and surprisingly well read he is. One of his songs made a reference to Noam Chomsky one of the great thinkers both of the 20th century who warned about what media does to society and how dangerous it can be when weaponized. And Bo also does make references to famous psychologists as well which shows that Bo is very introspective

And well it's still a product of his overthinking introspective self, his performances are very well thought out because this idea to separate the different facets of being in a relationship until the two generalized groups or subsets of your conscience it's really genius. We can like someone and we can honestly be in relationship for more logistical reasons as well

Hey Dave! I've been loving your Bo reactions so far and can't wait to see more! I think a good follow up might be "Comedy" or "Problematic" from the Inside special. Unless you're planning on a reaction to the full special at some point - that is definitely the better way to approach inside since it's intended to be viewed that way, and the progression through the bits and in-between bits is an experience that shouldn't be missed. On another note, I've been wondering lately if you might consider reacting to any BTS songs? They're one of my favorite bands, and I really enjoy the way you speak thoughtfully and carefully during your reactions. I think you might enjoy some of their music since they cover a wide range of topics like self love, the misappropriation of anger in today's world, loneliness, and a lot of other universal themes. I don't want to write a whole essay, so I'll stop here, but I can recommend some specific music videos if you'd like. Cheers!

Half of your problems are supposed to be mine. What the emotional side is telling the logical side is that not everything has to be purely logical and emotion in itself ironically can be a logical response as is just you know making any kind of decision or having any agency driven by creativity in pools sensation.

Also since you've already reacted to a lot of Bo Burnham videos, you've probably already happened upon a comment like this. It is important to know that Bo Burnham is inspired heavily by George Carlin, and George Carlin was really not even a comic so much as he was just a countercultural activist. He never took any side he called the s*** out on everything and everyone. And Bo actually does differ in how he concerns himself with outward perception. And this is something that Carlin was never really bothered about. But the way that he does make fun of everything is Carlin esque

The amount of people who ship Left and Right Brain is insane. It's one guy's brain and everyone agrees that there's romantic tension there, somehow.
