Our next race, Edition 13 is about to start. Check out all our new video's on our channel! goo.gl/BzBCwU The full replay of the start of leg 2, Cape Town to Abu Dhabi. Gusty winds made the departure from Cape Town quite tricky..
I love watching these boats move through the water at speed, the waves cresting over the bow. WOW. The crews are just awesome. Wish I could see these ships in person. Greatful for You Tube or I wouldn't get to see them at all.
Awesome racing happening here. (Side note: the video is making Cape Town look like it's a desert. It has one of the most unique climate zones in the world. Cape Town is definitely not a desert)
so much awesome footage when they gybed the second mark, some badly, and in the middle of it all, you cut to the graphic???? WTF???? Do the production people even sail???
Nancy Dunn great question. You lose some distance in doing a tack from downwind vs a gybe. But in these wind conditions and the fact the start is not as important as the other 7k nmiles on this leg, it is better to preserve your sails and gear. There is a reason Abu Dhabi is winning this race overall.....
@@lesteranddonna You nailed it. Been sailing all my life and a fair amount of club racing. Love the sport but America's Cup is not sailing and frankly, it's boring. 4 guys in a couple of cockpits You can't even see what they are doing. The only reason to watch is to see if a boat capsizes dramatically and that is no reason to watch.
I'm a bit confused -- Can anyone answer this for me? Why are they trying so hard at the start of the race? Its not like its a 100m sprint but a 5000+ mile marathon.
Absurd course. What's the point of having the first three marks if the boats are going to be packed together again because there's no wind where the tart line was?
Hola +Bugod i, we don't have that particular shot as a still image but the photo gallery for the start of Leg 2 from Cape Town can be viewed on the race website here: www.volvooceanrace.com/en/photo/235_Leg-2-Start-Cape-Town.html.
love watching sailing but will pass on the environmental bs... at least not from a group of people that consume more resources that any other in history. their lack of self-awareness and the irony of their message, I fear, is too often overlooked. stick with sailing it makes sense
Commentary is a total joke. You'd think they'd be able to hire people who knew something about sailing instead of waffling about nothing for an hour and a half.
Pls stop these regatta's non-sense. That kills the spirit of the initial round the world race. If you like regattas you have plenty of classes to choose from, but not this one.
What is it with the 'girl, girl, girl' thing? These male asshole commentators don't refer to the other boats crews as 'boys'. I'm a male and I find this SO annoying. Get with the times, 'boys'.
