Leg Yielding Made Easy | In this video, I would like to show you how I introduce leg yield to my horses once they understand it on the ground. Leg yield is a flatwork exercise for horses and should be incorporated into your dressage exercises. If you have a stiff horse you may find that these exercises will help with his suppleness. Later when you wish to teach your horse haunches in you will find this is a valuable foundation exercise.

I love Leg Yield as an exercise to teach my young horses and I revisit it often with my older ones. Thank you for watching and I hope you get some value from it. 🙂

Oh my goodness I cannot wait to get back into lessons. I am stuck overseas (Australian stuck in Nepal) and have been using the time to watch instructional vids. Thanks so much for sharing, I love your style of horsemanship. I hope these kinds of videos will help equestrians around the world who usually only have outdated resources available. In this country it is difficult for people trying to improve their horses training because there are no current successful trainers or sportspeople locally, so this is very valuable, especially for the horses

Thank you for your kind words Tara. Stay safe where you are and Australia will be here for you when you can get home 💗. PS: I do this for the horses first and foremost ❤.

Hello! I am a new subscriber. This video on teaching a good leg yield, along with the ground work video regarding the leg yield, is very helpful. I think I have been asking too much of my young horses. I will slow things down a bit and keep watching your videos 💖.

Very helpful thank you. I was doing this in my lesson today but only in walk, but watching this video has helped me understand what the horse should be doing as well as me :)

Love your channel. Helped me back a Friesian mare and now I am starting an Irish sport horse. You explain things so it is easily understood. Just a question about leg yield….how should your weight aid be positioned? I have seen some say weight to inside so he can move away from it and some say outside so he can move into your weight and pick you up. Which is correct?

Hey Josie, I love your videos and watch them whenever I need advise. I was wondering if you have ideas of what to do with a horse while she is recovering from asthma etc and can’t be exercised much just walked around. Thanks so much!
@BasicHorseTraining
@BasicHorseTraining 2 года назад
Hello! I haven't had anything to do with a horse suffering from asthma but if the vets tell you she can walk then you should be able to find a lot of exercises to do in hand at the walk. Look at it as an opportunity to develop a deeper relationship with your girl 🙂

Excellent instructions!! I’m confused now. My trainer said for me to remember when to bop with inside leg is when the outside FRONT is forward since I can’t feel it. Is this correct? Not subject related but She also told me to half halt when outside front leg is back. Is this correct or do I have it backwards. Pleaseeee reply 🙏🏼

How do you ask for the shoulders to come across as well?
@meganpahl3612

Also, what way did you teach him to go from walk to trot here? Need I worry about leg commands or is this particular horse just used to your sounds for speeding up? I know that question is incredibly simple but, each horse is different.

so the inside rein is the side in which you are currently giving the leg stimulation?
