Legacy Armada Prime: The Buttflap is Wrong On Purpose 

I swear, I can count the number of legacy evolution boxes I’ve seen on store shelves on my fingers. Half the places are still running Legacy wave 1. This is ridiculous.

I won't lie, seeing the combined mode backpack like that hurt my soul because I do what the instructions say and let the missle kibble below his waist hang down and tabbed into itself so it doesn't make his back look absurd. Not a complaint, your toy, your choice, but wow that back is CHUNKY.

You can transform the back piece in combined mode differently to clean up the backpack and get more out of the waste joint.

I used to have the old Armada Prime toy when I was a little boy and he was good, this newer version is an godsend to me that got my child self's heart racing. I'm really impressed with how he looks :o

Im glad the armarda fans got some really great new figures of some characters that needed them

I'm officially a member of team "always read the instructions" and a firm enemy of the "puzzlebox" team. Too many times I've seen mistransformations, even for parts that should be obvious, and sometimes too there's a small feature you'd miss if you don't read them.

I didn't grow up with Armada. Being introduced to the franchise through the Bayverse, I watched most of the shows that came after, and a hefty chunk of G1. But over the pandemic, I decided to binge through the entirety of the Unicron Trilogy and I got a weird nostalgia I felt like I shouldn't have. Watching Armada felt like it brought me to a simpler time. I'm happy that these designs get to shine again.

This is one of my favorite designs of Optimus cause it’s fresh and unique so I’m really glad this got the update it deserves. Also hotshot in the Japanese version of the show was called hotrod

Legacy evolution boxes are extremely hard to come by here in the south (Texas). I’ve searched long and hard and the only legacy evolution figure I’ve found (and bought) that wasn’t Nemsis Leo was Blitzwing

I know people have done this for you before, but it would be great if more fans can help you acquire figures to review. It is weird that Hasbro's distribution is so fucked. Even online retailers don't have stuff in stock. That's nuts.

You know what with the auto badge being removable i just hope that we get an armada jetfire before legacy is over.

The trailer legs were a pain, so I'm guessing Hasbro is going to make a Red Alert next to complete the trio.

I’m quite happy the Armada figures aren’t as stylized as the Animated and Prime figures, I never understood why they needed to do that.

I have this prime and it feels so good to transform over and over. As for the arm cannons of the core prime, my guess is it's suppose to be the "evo-fusion" where it'll peg to the side of the big blaster but we'll never know because they didn't actually put any in the box(I think they gave up, lmao). For the Super Mode I usually either fold the turret to the buttflap so I can use the waist swivel or I just detach it and peg it to the arm via the core robot's port under the toe. Edit: That recliner mode looks awesome and hilarious at the same time I love it haha.

The core robot mode has ab crunch. It's minimal, but it's there. It makes the core robot looks natural and a tad bit dynamic. I always see the back kibble as sort of a trench coat or a super hero cape. Naval commander one has a lot more junk in the back.

I had armada prime ONCE as a kid we didnt have batteries so returned it and I always wanted it, now I have legacy prime and HE ISNT LEAVING NOW I WANT JETFIRE AND OVERLOAD

As far as Hasbro figures are corncerned, this one is quite great. I also wonder how many repaints we could get from this (with or with out the trailer). As for removable bagde, I'm preaty sure they gonna do Nemezis. And if so, I can't wait to see the black super mode. And as for the question of the video... A day ago they showed Legacy Animated Prime figure. If you seen it, can I ask what you think of it? (for me the robot mode is looking great, but the truck mode unfortunetly looks to me like an unfinished Prototype. With his front been too long. His wheels been way too back. And his ugly front bumper wheels.)

Armada Prime's super mode's head is style after the "bamboo" armor of some styles of Japanese Samurai armor and was considered the worst looking Optimus Prime head pre-Michael Bay. The way the cab robot's head is sculpted combined with his huge shoulders just makes him look super drepressed all the time.

I guess both legacy armada megatron and Optimus have the shoulder problem

I like that so many figures have Matrixes of Leadership. I am however really bothered by SS86 Hotrod having NO compatibility with one. Like he is a deluxe-sized Leader and he faux-forms. I don’t care about faux parts but this feels like an insult

Mine had the base robot knee/super mode elbow stress crack on the first transformation it was so tight… waiting to hear back from Hasbro on a replacement part. Also surprised you didn’t mention the super mode eyes being the wrong color XD

I only hate Hot Rod shoulders when the shoulders make contact with the head (Crankcase is a good example) but on this and Tarn they’re far enough that they don’t look bad at least to me

The launcher bay part of the "backpack" folds down as a back skirt, but I can see why one would prefer not to have that. I haven't seen this at retail yet (in the US Midwest) and got mine from a major online retailer.

[Internal Fangirl Screaming] WHY IS THE BASE ROBOT SO PRETTY?! I LOVE IT! I am literally crying from the happiness this is so perfect... [Addendum] Alright, now that I've calmed myself down, I noticed some things you didn't bring up. The Base Robot mode has an ab crunch due to the combined mode shoulders. It is slight, but can be increased if the chest is untabbed. You had the Super Mode backpack transformed wrong. The panel that the Base Mode gun mount connects to is supposed to be folded down with the gun folded against it. It is supposed to replicate the waist cape esque design the original toy/design had. I just now noticed that there is a lighter shade of blue separating the blue of the face and the mouthplate.

I did manage to find the nemesis leo prime and in loin mode he's an ice skater

Transformers Armada was my introduction to the Transformers IP.

Me personally, I don't have that much issue with the backskirt on the combined mode (which you folded up to clean him up), since it's accurate and I quite like that style.

Hot-Rod shoulders are a detail Armada Prime ALWAYS had Show, toy every prior Armada Prime version has been there

I was disappointed in the buttflap, until I realized the original was just a brick. My biggest issue is that the silver painted chest grill is used to peg into the super mode. Get a silver sharpie because that paints gonna chip😢 Really enjoy the figure though.

For what it’s worth, the paint issues and joint issues you mention are not present on mine, both robots’ faces look good, the chest closes fine, and the super mode release buttons are stiff but reasonable. “Falls on his face in a specific order” no lies detected. All that said, while I’m not going to yum anyone else’s yuck when it comes to the flap hanging down in the back, that’s on you. If you’re going to purposefully mistransform him to make his backpack twice the size it should be, you really have no room to complain about about the backpack being oversized.

I could be wrong but maybe the reason why prime seems to be shorter than you expected is because armada Megatron is supposed to be taller than Optimus like the anime I swear i remember the first episode when they started throwing hands prime's head was up to megs chest just like the figures. Also the moment I saw the hotrod shoulders I was like really? His arms look mad skinny. I think the matrix could've been better. The combination mode is complete gas, when I get my hands on that figure it will be better than sex even though I never had sex before.

I went to universal studios last month for summer vacation and I thought there was gonna be legacy evo figures but nope those guys are still on legacy wave 1 and 2 what the fuck universal

I really want that figure, BUT THANKS TO HASBROS AWFUL DISTRIBUTION I CANT GET IT! In all seriousness that figure looks really really cool in all 3 modes it really makes me hyped for more unicron trilogy stuff I wonder if they will ever make Grandus prime(Energon Optimus Prime)!

Yknow a figure is good when some ppl just want the core robot even w/o the combining gimmick lol I’m limiting the amount of Primes I own but this is definitely a step up from Jetfire and Skylynx Also that comment of thinking of “A big toy w a smaller mode as a fun bonus” is a great summary of what Commander Class means to me

I’d say it’s a very solid commander the best trailer one. Motor master you can combine yes but you need 4 other figures and rodimus is nice but the trailer isn’t the best but Armada prime is very nice both blocks of plastic work out well robot/trailer. By the sounds of it powelinx hot shot is getting revealed Friday so hopefully more armada stuff is announced like a demolishor, blurr, thrust, and repaints

Me and my mom went to a swap meet basically a big yard sale, and I found a guy selling transformers old transformers, like he had a G1 Soundwave for 10 bucks but since it was scorching hot, I only got two figures. One was a small revenge of the fallen rampage easy to transform and I think I’m gonna take it to work as like a fidget toy the second was an original beast wars depth charge without the tail gun or discs death Charj was my favorite character from beast wars and the best part rampage was one dollar and depth charge was 15 16 bucks for all transformers. That’s a deal.

Armada optimus prime is not only the best legacy figure of all time, but he’s possibly considered to be the best commander class figure of all time, there is one minor problem on him and that’s his chest piece in his robot mode, idk if it’s just me but the chest feels like it doesn’t feel right like it feels kinda off, but other than that everything else about him feels really great, and I even think he’s perfect, so overall I’m happy for this commander class figure and I do hope we get another commander class figure that’s just as amazing as this.

My favorite scene in Armada was when Optimus Prime launched his super mode pants at Megatron, converted back to his base form, and grabbed Megatron by the arm, saying “If I’m going down, I’m taking you with me!”

...yeah, the original Armada toy was like that as well - the gun was way too big for the base figure but just right for the Super Mode. Hilariously enough, the only Legacy remake of an Armada figure that I actually want (and haven't seen in stores much) is Megatron, and that's because that's the only character I have any connection to because back then, a girl I was dating at the time got me the original Armada Megatron as a surprise. 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

Had this guy for a week and love him a lot! Not sure why his eyes are yellow in super mode, but an easy fix from that a guy did on the tffw2005 forum with the help of a KitKat wrapper made the eyes pop a LOT better! Seriously, that metallic red shine just pops no matter what direction I turn the head in.

How did you make the prime recliner? I am struggling to make it.

For some reason whenever I see transformers combine with their trailers or other transformers I just think of power rangers.

About the whole matrix thing I feel like it could be worse They could give characters matrix gimmicks but then say “if you want to use this gimmick you need Earthrise Optimus, this is the only matrix we’re making, screw you” So I think including them with a bunch of figures is the better option

Does this toy reek of early 2000s Japanese stink? Yes, and I REALLY FUCKING LOVE THIS THING. I'm getting this figure for my birthday and it really looks so good. Armada has been making a very nice comeback and I can already tell that this is miles better than naval commander (mine had qc issues up the ass). I'm pumped to get this figure. Whether it's the legitimacy of it all or nostalgia blinding me, I can definitely hear the beautiful voice of Garry Chalk from this figure But no Sparkplug......that sucks.....but at least there's a slight chance for legacy Jetfire now

Hi PE, I noticed you keep trying to avoid replying this comment. Is there something wrong? Personally, I lliked ROTB, and didn't exactly like Bumblebee movie. I mean, I can remember the plot of ROTB, but I cannot remember the plot of BB despite watching it once, and one more time on broadcast. In my honest opinion, the problems of these movies is that they are too focussed on the humans. You know, the walking and talking fleshies that no one pays to watch? In the cartoons, it was always about the robots fighting, and plotting to one up the other faction. Humans exists, but the story didn't revolve around them. Having a human-centric story brought focus away from the actual giant shape-shifting robots we came to see. Imagine it's like Godzilla, but the story is focused on the people around him instead of Godzilla himself. Oh wait....

I prefer Optimuses with yellow eyes for some reason. Yeah, overall I really dig this thing. It hearkens back to original toy surprisingly well. I just wish they could make the backpack on the Super-mode smaller.

I have been browsing this guy for quite a bit on RU-vid videos and the BigBadToyStore, and the base robot I quite like but there's something about it holding me back from really liking it. It could be the crappy looking shoulders...........or maybe it's because they extended his groinal area..........yeah I think that's really holding me back from liking the base robot.

My biggest complaint with the core robot is the lack of waist swivel. Now, a full rotation is unreasonable. Maybe five-ten degrees in either direction though? There’s enough super robot joints in the ab area to facilitate at most that. Just a bit of re-engineering is all that was needed. A smaller complaint is how useless the big trailer canon is in super robot mode. You’d think, with EVOFUSION being the line’s motif? They’d have come up with something for that to do. Anything more than just an ass skirt.

4:47 the red console in the base mode’s center? The space before it can fit a Titanmaster or Primemaster in a sitting position almost perfectly. Until I get a Mini-con Sparkplug? I am using PotP Vector Sigma for a tiny partner. They’re so similarly colored, it’s a perfect match! Thanks to having a toy figure to man it, I am having fun with the base mode. Not as stock. My fan mode is pretty simple. Just swivel the missile launcher to be a tower facing forward. Then use the ankle pivoted feet as stabilizers. I find detaching the blue part of the leg for transformation first to be helpful. I leave the trailer stands tucked away as well.

Honestly armada has taken the legacy treatment incredibly well. None of the figures have been bad, the only other line COULD be animated based of the prime and prowl.

If only Hot Shot wasnt below average we'd have five for five wins in Legacy Armada with the Wheeljack they're teasing us with.

9:26 the waist swivel isn’t such a mess if the butt flap was in place. You’ve got it tucked up with the backpack. Unless you prefer that look at the sacrifice of a relatively easy to use waist swivel.

some of the kibble is mistransformed. Its supposed to flatten into a butt flap which helps the waist swivel and significantly slims the back

I was hoping for a size comparison especially since you mentioned it was smaller than you thought. Other than that great review at usual.

it is a cool looking prime, but I don't need something that big in my collection. plus not a fan of the non combine mode and the truck/trailer mode.

Yo Perspective, if you’re having problems separating the supermode upper body from lower body, try pinching the grey tabs on the sides of the waist, they push the clips in so you can release Optimus easier, it also helps when getting into super mode.

Haven't seen this guy ONCE physical, missed the chance to get him online cause once holidays came around he just vanished and never restocked into the new year. I am not gonna pay 200 for this guy, 90s stretch of my budget as it is. Also really kind of bugs me a little now that I've looked back at the anime this is basing it's colors off because they left his feet blue. On the toy the fists were gold and the feet were silver, and then in the anime the hands were some kinda grey/silver and the feet were gold. This one's got the right hands and gold paint all over save for the feet. It's the kind of weirdly selective cheaping out I don't even think saves them enough money to make sense, kind of like how the Armada legacy megatron's non functional launch ramp is only half painted. Might try saving up extra money for tidal wave, but Tidal wave is gonna be a special nightmare because apparently they tried completely reinventing the wheel to the point he can't go between any altmode save for the new half baked base mode they wanted to include without partsforming. Also REALLY kind of bothers me that the head of that tidal wave is based off an extremely off-model giga chinbeard shrunken head shot from the anime rather than the actual character's head design. Would it really have been that hard to upscale the original design and add knees at that level of budget? The features are all gone too! He lacks the little storage compartment flap on his shoulder, His troop carrier boat has FAKE HINGES And can't even fold out to a boarding craft, the feature removal creep is astounding with Tidal wave. Titans are 200 dollars, and the price scalpers have started charging for the original tidal wave post lockdown world is the same, what are they acting like it's either a features or posing thing? Because the original tidal wave literally only lacked head rotation and knees, maybe ankles if you want to bring it up to modern standards. Kinda turned into an incoherent mini rant on the new tidal wave but anyways yeah, I'm hoping I can find this guy eventually for a price that isn't well over 100. Still have my original from back in the day in a box somewhere, kinda worried about it now that i opened the box to check if it was ok solely because of how grimy with weird dust and black specks of some kinda fuzz or lint the box was outside though i don't think it was mold. the inside was somehow pristine despite being left alone for well over a decade lmao.

You complain for complaining sake! Hasbro just doesn’t need to redesign anything. He’s both animation and toy accurate, especially OG deluxe aka “bendy Prime”. (his base robot arms just needs to be a bit ticker)

THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! THAT'S WHY HE'S THE MVP! THAT'S WHY HE'S THE GOAT; THE GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTT! the super robot mode is simply just pure kino. Also Prime's antenna kind of reminds me of The Flash logo/ears.

I grew up with the unicron trilogy so this Optimus is a yes in my books I must have it when it hits targets I'm on my no stopping me.

One of the leg panels snapped on mine snapped because it was screwed on to tight but besides that this is by far the best optimus that i own

I was on the fence about this purchase. But the general hearsay about it, even before it came out, was that it was good. And after getting it..... Hell Yeah. This thing ain't perfect, but DAMN it is impressive. -The truck has a weird bed, but is otherwise awesome. -The bot mode has a bit of a shoulder problem. But I think, for me, the weirdness comes from the head. On ocasion, mostly in the eyes, it reminded be of Sad Bumblebee Soundwave. -The super bot mode is big, chunky, has tasty ratchets all over, etc. I like to swivel the arm tires the other way though. That way, they're hanging out more over the wrists than the elbows. And the mono-skirt doesn't bother me that much here. Mostly because it has two hinges and a swivel joint. As long as you don't over swivel the waist, you can make it look pretty natural.

I absolutely had to get this guy. Aside from a few Beast Wars toys the original deluxe Armada Prime was my first transformer (maybe I should say my first Autobot?). When this figure was announced I knew that I would not satisfied until I had both figures standing next to each other. I also had quite a big of trouble getting those trailer pieces to move. I didn't want to use too much force for fear of breaking it so I just slowly and occasionally applied pressure over the course of an hour or two until it came out. God tier figure. He also looks great next to my Siege Optimus.

So how do you feel about the new animated figures

If we're gonna nitpick, i'd say super mode head feels a bit too small for me.

It still baffles & bothers me in equal measure why they omitted or overlooked the cab doors on the truck. There's just a gap & I've skipped this because of it. For the price, i just expect a bit more care. I keep coming back to it, but I can't change my mind.

You can choose to remove that detatchable part from the back and tilt the flap down for a more clean back.

So is mistransforming the back skirt a choice in super mode or just like an over sight because having it like that limits things and makes stuff kinda awkward, I don’t even care about the big backskirt anyway because I’m also heavily into gundam where some suits get really huge, one of my favorite being sazabi, who has a giant backskirt that is one piece full of boosters, I just see the backpack as a big booster pack thing

Remember my brother have this and I always want to play with it. But we got a silent rule with us to just see no touch with our own toy collection. I love to get it but monoskirt and huge backpack is a big turn off. Great and honest review as always!
