+estomnetempus Maybe because the puzzles were loathed by a lot of gamers for being so counter intuitive and obnoxious? The story was pretty good, albeit very linear.
+Kuroi Masada that's what made it a little more special to me thou, cause it felt awesome when you figure it out (air forge looking at youuuu) :] It also was meant to be more linear I think, since they wanted this part of the franchise to be more story driven. Nonetheless, I truly enjoyed playing it this winter, with a cup of tea and a blanket hahahah, It made me love this franchise even more, too bad it's probably marching to it's grave :P
My 100% fave game of all time. This was actually my starting point in the series story wise, then I played my way backwards, then forwards again lol. I loved the OST, voicework, animations, puzzles, story, and gamplay. Of all those the gameplay needed the most work I can admit, mainly the combat and linearity, but still the combination of all its parts made it quite magical.
SR2 is my absolute favorite game of the series. Probably my favorite game, period. I always say, it's the best game I've ever _watched_, as it seems like a fairly short game with a lot of lengthy cutscenes. But, the storyline and all of the quality they put into it - from the voice actors, to the music, to everything else - is so original and entertaining that it's easy to forget that it's a game. And that ending has to be one of the coolest things I've ever seen in any game _or_ movie.
I just found the combat in both SR games to be extremely irritating. I would have preferred if enemies respawned way less and if the combat wasn't so repetitive. There were basically no mechanics to it whatsoever.
"It IS simple! When fate gives you the coin to flip....instead...why not simply run off with the coin?" (Kain's teleportation noise replaced with random cartoon boop effect)
That quote I think is the key to the whole series. There has always been the illusion of two choices, two sides calling the shots. What if something came and changed the scenario, chose for itself.
That can be a dangerous prospect for we know what becomes of family in nosgoth. I just know I won't be helping cast anyone into the abyss. I happen to like my soul lol
The Pillars of Nosgoth... pristine, whole, and uncorrupted. I had never beheld them in this undefiled state - yet something profound and indelible resonated within me at the sight. And there, waiting at the very heart of the Pillars, was the canker that was destined to destroy them.
@@anothenymously7054 Spare me your elaborate metaphors Kain! I have pursued you here for one purpose. You will pay for your betrayal! and Balance will thus be restored to Nozgoth!
I wish games today had an in-depth story and such originality as LoK and SR2 specifically... with today’s modern capabilities a re-master of this game would be GREATLY appreciated👍🏻 Also who’s here in 2020?? I’ve been playing this game too long 😂
Been replaying this franchise since 1999. We must have a REMAKE. Not a remaster. This game is perfect combination of so many things...Writing, music, ambient, voice acting...Who can forget the Coin flip dialogue scene? "Suppose one day, it lands on its edge?"
@@claudimerroWhat worries me is that you’re right… I’d love a reboot but I’d want the original voice actors. Unfortunately some have passed so it’ll never really be the same. 😔 I may be a little biased about that, but anything to come of this series would be nice.
The mystery of nosgoth, the pillars and their majesty. And then the corrupted base of the elder god, all encapsulated in a song that’s captivated me since first playing in 2004
Hahaha I did that too wtf.. But the sudden twitches Raziel did when you had him inert scared the fuck outta me.. He would stretch his torso, turn around suddenly and scratch his head hahaha so weird and so well thought..
The Legacy of Kain is an underrated series. Never spoken of much today. Great stories, action, and timeless music. This series music is one of the reasons I wanted to make music. I really should get the ball rolling, and fire that FL Studio up. It's been too long, and I'm really inspired! Thanks Jim and Kurt!
Recently replayed and finally beat the game after about 11 or 12 years of never getting further than the Dark Reaver forge, and I'm still amazed by how well it holds up in terms of story and voice acting. Maybe one day we'll get a faithful return to the series, with the news of the studio reclaiming the IP and apparently showing interest in developing a new LoK title.
Late, but did you ever experience the issue of disturbing all the crows and having the Dark Forge's door seal on you? Caused me so much grief in my younger years
The composition of this musical track is just pure genius; it gives off a very peaceful vibe -- perhaps all too peaceful -- a facade that is quickly unveiled (not only to Raziel but to the player) when the Pillars of Nosgoth become corrupt.
5:01 "These are the fathomless truths, Raziel: The agony of birth and death and rebirth - this is the Wheel of Fate, the purifying cycle which sustains all life. Vampires are an abomination, a plague which leeches this land of its spiritual strength" -The Elder God (from Lp archive)
"I did not intend to disturb your rest." "Rest? A body is needed for sleep, flesh and bones are required to recline. No, child! All I may do is watch, and remember, ceaselessly conscious as this wretched world's story unfurls... Ghastly past, insufferable future, are they one and the same? Am I always here?"
@Me Alexander silenced cathedral and elder god will be the most thing i wanted to know from dead sun. Also did you watch earlier version of soul reaver 1 in which turel and some other stuff was supposed to be in it.
This game left such weird influence on me. I was 14 when i played first time, I really enjoy it but never was my favorite game. But something left me so captivated till this days to Soul Reaver 2, its almost like art piece that keeps you intrigued for some reason but you dont know why. I actually never played any other game in series and now I'm planing to play whole Legacy of Kain Series, I hope I will not be disappointed by other games in legacy of Kain universe.
it'd be nice, but Eidos didn't care much about the LoK games, you can tell by the rushed games like S.R2 and B.O2 and the huuuuuge amount of cancelled games, i know it sucks.. but."suppose one day... a remastered version comes"
One of my favorite musics of this game, who is, with SR 1, the best games ever... I hope they'll make a remake or something like that also 5 years and 0 dislike, that's beautiful
This is so save room music in any other horror game , here it is deep philosophical discussion on the nature of choice and the limitations of determination in a fated world
we can only hope games of the future can even come close to imitating how music, dialogue, story and so much more can be used to create such an enchanting scene as the pillars discussion of Soul Reaver 2
I always called it "the best game I ever watched," since it had so many long, fascinating cutscenes that it almost seemed like the gameplay took a back seat to them -- and that was not at all a bad thing. The gameplay was good, but the story, the voice acting, and the music were *_excellent._*
I really like sr2's music.... but sometimes I wish it what made sr1's music have that Kurt punch. especially the spectral music.... sr2's spectral music is just the physical plane with distortion and filters, no ambient howling noises. Still beautiful though
It has the sense of wandering the valleys and forests of Nosgoth and feeling a disquieting stillness as despite being beautiful, you get the sense of something evil and voracious stalking you through the undergrowth Then, the trees part and immediately you're entranced by the stark purity of the Pillars of Nosgoth The bright shining marble catches the light of the sun and they glitter like gemstones emblazoned with ancient runes While staring up at the pillars as they fade into the cold blue of the sky, you think that you hear a whimper. The cry of a lost soul All the while, a colossal tentacled beast ancient and powerful beyond the Ages sits in its dark, watery throne deep below the earth scheming and plotting the machinations that will ultimately lead to your terrible death and the sustenance of your soul
"30 years hence, I am presented with a dilemma. If the coin ones I sacrifice myself and that means the annihilation of our species, Moebius made sure of that. If the coin lands on the reverse, I refuse the sacrifice and thus doom The Pillers into eternal damnation. Either way, the game is rigged."
awesome, as you could tell from my name, I am a big LOK fan...and while I may not ever look at a multiplayer game and say "that is a cool LOK game" I do enjoy it as a, non-LOK game.
@@Casketkrusher_ according to Amy Henning, the Soul Reaver franchise is based on the novel Paradise Lost and gnosticism. So basically he is not completely wrong about the satanic theme of this franchise. Before acting like a douchebag do your research!
@@bluesky8033 too bad he got more likes sorry to say, but that means he is objectively correct and any means to use evidence to disprove his claim is in vain nah but i think he was just making a joke, cause he's 'Doom Guy' and that guy doesnt like demons
