Thank you Gideon Hanoomansingh for the brilliant narration.The horrific sad stories I heard from my parents haunted me all my life.My father and my mother's parents were some of the last "coolie" immigrants who came to Trinidad.It has left deep sores that would never heal.My father did not come willingly..he was lured into trap and landed with the others.It was my burning desire to go to India and find my father's family and let them know what had happened to him.Finally made it in 1989 ..74 years since my father left India.None of his siblings existed but I met the next generation.And they still cried..They had heard about my father.I still keep in touch with the family ..My mother's family is another story by itself.They slogged their gut out ..for the their children..they plodded on perhaps with the old Hindu belief that if you do good in the present life you would have it better in the next.God bless our nation..

Very interesting and informative. You are one of the lucky ones to retrieve your ancestry. There are thousands of indo-Trinidadians who want to find out where their great grandparents came from,including me. Maybe you can help. Where did you get that last name? What's your Indian name? You talk about your father but seem ashame of the name.

This was a wonderful documentary. Gives me even greater respect for my ancestors. My life today is far removed from a life of poverty and I have to say my forebears created a path for me and others of my generation. Much respect.

This was an extremely difficult thing to watch. My great, great grandparents took the journey, and their story resonates till today. By force. Told of great wealth and property to be gained. But it was far from the truth. I hope the British Empire pays dearly for every tear that fell, for every life that was taken, and the brutality doled out to these people. Form my lips to the Universe's ears.

dawn alleyne it wasn’t by force. What did you watch?? They made out like bandits in the end. Are you kidding me. Whites were on that ship through rough seas as well.. the freed African slaves are the 1’s that suffered.

This was very good. I have so many stories from my father, uncles, and the generation before them. And so many memories of San Fernando, Debe and all the other villages. I live in California now, and sometimes I feel so disconnected, and very far away. There are many Indians here, but most of them have no knowledge of, or don't understand, the paths that our ancestors took. The generations before us went through so much and I am grateful to them.

Excellent documentary for all Indians in the Caribbean. Thank you for bringing our history to us in a well researched and well presented format. I am glad to know that there are academics in India who are both interested and well versed in the Indian disaspora.

This is an excellent report of our Indian Heritage......I must say excellent work, you need to get this in the Secondary schools in Trinidad. Teachers should show this to their students because reading this literature is boring but the visual aids make it interesting and intriguing for students. I wish my history teacher had shown me all six videos and I surely would not have slept away in her class most of the time......thanks again

Thank you for sharing these videos, it was very interesting for me as I am from East African and our ancestors also settled from India but our history of settlement is very different to the ones in west indies, I admire the Trinidadians for their fight to struggle and overcoming the horror they went through to survive.

Although, I have read and know much of this, I found it heartbreaking. Heartbreaking because of the forced disconnection from family and friends. But like many of the Caribbean, I find solace in the fact that Indians have persevered and are doing well for themselves. And they have left the ugly caste system behind. I hold no grudges against Europeans and Europe. It was the thing of the day. What is important is that we learn from these lessons and don't repeat. And that Indians in their privil

Error 2:47: Eid-ul-Adha is not the "celebration of the Prophet's birthday".
@Ramkabharosa
@Ramkabharosa 5 лет назад
Eid al-Adha (عيد الأضحى‎) is the festival which honors the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. Before Abraham could sacrifice his son, God provided a lamb to sacrifice instead. In commemoration of this, a clean animal is sacrificed and divided into roughly three equal parts: one part is usually given to poor and needy non-relatives in one's community; another is given to friends/relatives, and third part is kept by the family doing the sacrifice. In the Islamic lunar calendar, Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah (the twelth & final month of the year). Mawlid al-Nabi al-Sharif (birth of the Prophet), a.k.a. Youman-Nabi, is usually celebrated on the 12th of Rabi' al-awwal (3rd month). .

The Renaissance in 14th century, in Europe, brought an end to the dark ages in Europe, and produced a class of warriors, who were better equipped with warfare instruments, better voyage vessels and unanswerable war strategies. So they enslaved millions of dark Africans and Asians, put them to work in their Farmhouses for almost 4 centuries. The resilience they got from their religion saved them, otherwise they had perished by so called enlightened humans.
