From SDA's Summer Games Done Quick '12. In which the goal was to raise money for OAR (The Organization for Autism Research) by playing games for 5 straight days. All proceeds from the event, held on May 24th-28th, were donated directly to The OAR.

Runner - Dragondarch and Feasel
For those who stumble across these videos, a speed run is a video of a person or persons, completing a game as fast as possible using any means possible. This can include glitches, abusing in-game mechanics and skipping items or even playing events out of sequence.

One of my favorite games as a kid - I always wondered if I could've beaten it. Now I understand that I wasn't even close and it was never going to happen.

Makes me feel good about actually beating it when I was young. However, it is definitely trickier to do without the pause glitch. Xemn's area in particular has some really tricky puzzles in it. In this run they did play through a few of those, but they had the solutions memorized. The game was VERY unforgiving of mistakes in these puzzles. There are also a ton of disappearing blocks that you don't notice in the run but they trip you up constantly in casual play. I wasn't some kind of gaming wizard or anything, so it was definitely beatable in casual play, and I don't think I had much in the way of guides at the time. However, this game chewed up a ton of hours. One of the things I liked was the variety of areas, and how areas had a different feel depending on which character you were using. The absence of any kind of clear linear path made you have to go check everywhere, and a lot of the screens had side entrances so you'd be way off in some distant area and then on the other side of a wall you'd suddenly see something familiar. Heck, just as you're setting into the dungeon you walk right under Lyll's crown...

I remember beating this as a kid. Nothing specific about it was all that hard, except the shear size of the dungeon. For the longest time I never got far until I finally made a crude map, which made it so much easier. I realized each “screen” had one inn, one shop, and one treasure chest, and it was something like 4 screens wide and 32 deep if I remember correctly. The hardest thing to find was the shield. It is not in any chest and sold only at one shop. The shop, though, is hidden behind an inn. One screen seemed to have no shop. I finally figured out you change the inn sign to a shop sign to find this hidden shop. Good times.

I believe, if you take the upper-right path from the first ladder, you soon come across some platforms laid out like steps with a chest at the top. I passed through that screen 100 times and never knew there was a fake block in the ceiling above the chest, which leads to an entirely new branch of the dungeon. It wasn't until 20 years later that I saw someone take that path in a video. Missing that secret may be the earliest unforgettable regret of my life.

Remember playing this as a kid. WAY before the internet showed us all what to do. I must have wandered around for months not knowing what the hell to do, then just gave up. Every once in awhile I would mistakenly run into something new, but, could never remember how to reach that spot again. Just the music alone is nostalgia....

My cousin still has this game I think, and when I went to my aunt's house I would play it a few times; sadly I never beaten it. Kudos to both runners and hope to see even more classic game speed runs.

How exactly do you do the jump glitch by pausing? I've managed to pull it off a few times but never with any kind of consistency.

Heh, love it how guy on the right gets lucky with scrolls. I played through this game a year ago, it was really difficult yet rewarding expirence. Just the amount of grinding you have to do on keys and sometimes on money just happen to be a pain in the buttocks especially since game balances out what you can get based on "what you need" the most and it can get really irritating if you are trying to grind specific items.

gamesdonequick.com/schedule This is a list of the games done at AGDQ 2014 and who ran them. Not sure how to check out the past marathon schedules though. If you mean just a general list of games and players, you can find the games at the SDA website, but they typically just list whoever currently has the fastest times.

The reason why NONE of us could beat this game is because each character has to obtain one of the four crowns that gives you the Dragon Slayer sword (which is weilded by the BOY IN ORDER TO UNLEASH AND BEAT THE DRAGON IN THE PAINTING. The reason why we ran around like Zombies on crack is because without the instruction manual telling you that each character must obtain one of the four crowns so the boy can get the sword and defeat the dragon , you are just playing to be playing. And the game itself does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to tell you that this is what you must do to beat this FUCKING GAME!!!!

I beat this when I was 7 without a guide. Discovered how the crowns work by accident.

The manual does vaguely tell you that the crowns are connected to the paintings and let you do something special with them. Did the game ever tell you that there were 4 crowns you needed though? This game was like Milon's Secret Castle except 20 times more complicated. Beating it required you to know all about where every breakable or illusionary block was. So you had to shoot every block EXCEPT YOU HAD LIMITED AMMO. Imagine trying to beat Milon's secret castle where you only had 99 bubble shots.

I played this game a lot as a kid, and I never made it to a boss. I think the main problem was that my passwords never worked; they were long and used indiscernible uppercase and lowercase letters, and numbers, too, iirc.

The batteries could have lasted 20 years and I still wouldn't have beaten Legacy of the Wizard.
