Chris, one of the best if not the best review of a pickleball paddle.Your reviews( of all paddles) just get better, you obviously listen to your audience to develop the best techinical information.Your personal views and opinions are well respected by the viewers of your channel. Keep up the good work.I ordered a Legacy Pro based upon your reviews three weeks ago ,Legacy knows this because I used your code.
It's now Jan 2024 and your review of the Legacy Pro is still spot on. I've hit with a half-dozen of the latest carbon fiber paddles from Selkirk and others in the last year. The LegPro has great power, great control and spin. I don't know how you get power and control in one paddle but this one does. This one is the best I've ever hit with regardless of price.
Just took delivery this week of the Legacy Pro - 8.3 oz weight. Had a very nice 2 hour session where I played the best I can and then some. Specifically my backhand spin serve had noticeably more action when the ball landed than my regular Engage Pursuit EX 6.0. More pop on the hard shots and, for the first time in forever, my 3rd shot drops were really good. So far the paddle has made me a better player. Note the paddle surface seems to collect a circle of dust when you hit the ball for spin. Like the paddle was grabbing the ball and shaking it. One heck of a bargain for $160.
You are the leader in paddle reviews. Your objectivity with spin put you there. I’d like to see more of that. I think it’s doable measuring paddle ball speed. Fire balls using a ball machine at the paddle in a solid mount. Measure ball speed toward the paddle and leaving. I’d also like to see something objective for sweet spot. This potentially could be done a similar way observing ball speed coming off different areas of the paddle.
I assume that the power and spin come from this new woven technique that Legacy has done by adding extra layers of carbon fiber. I think this is the future of paddles. Great review, Chris!
Hi Chris I purchased two of these paddles based on your review. I finally received my paddle and tested it out. I did not find this paddle had any more power or spin than my Gearbox 14E. It would be interesting to see you test the new batch of Legacy Pros and compare those results against your previous testing!
You sound so apologetic that it isn't the paddle for you. Don't worry about that since your paddle reviews are so comprehensive and enjoyable to watch. Carry forth!
While I have one ordered, I managed to borrow a friends Legacy Pro for one game and now the Hyperion of which I’ve used since it came out, feels like a let down or like I lost some super powers I had during my game with the Legacy. So, Legacy, let’s tell the Feb shipment to get a move on it;-). All of that is really to say that I came from a soft paddle and had no issues with the soft soft game w/ the Legacy. I didn’t find it “not soft enough”Think it very much depends on the person.
My experience was similar to yours. Great power, spin, and depth on serves and returns. Had a tough time controlling my thirds dinks and resets. I didnt find the face as plush as most raw carbon fiber paddles. Feels like a fiberglass face to me like the Six Zero Black Diamond. The Vatic Pro feels much more plush to me
If you have soft hands, you'll dig this paddle. Plays way plusher than I anticipated. Very controllable paddle. Soft game is superb with LP. Of course the spin you get is terrific. If you hit topspin weather a 2-handed backhand or slice, you'll find it satisfying. Paddle is not poppy at all. Had it for 4 months day with daily play and no durability issues. I'm a fan!
I’m a paddle junkie. I just ordered one of these and got the discount. It was a pre-production order because of demand so hopefully it will come within a couple of weeks. I’ve been playing with a GRUVN 16e and I love it. But I can’t hit the ball nearly as hard as I could with my Electrum Pro. This paddle may be too much power for me, but I couldn’t resist trying it.
Any thoughts after using this for a while? I'm in the market and I'm torn between so many. The Vedic pro flash, rhombus r1.16, double black diamond 6.0....
Another excellent, helpful review, Chris! I've decided to give the Legacy Pro a try (currently back ordered) coming from a CRBN1 16mm. Before your review, I was going to try the CRBN1X. But the larger sweet spot in addition to the extra power and spin, not to mention the much lower price make it a more attractive paddle to try right now. Thanks again for your candid reviews!
OUTSTANDUNG Review! I actually just ordered my new Legacy Pro. I really like my Electrum Model E but I am excited to try out this new paddle. I plan on weighting the throat area and adding a grip wrap immediately. Thanks for your informative reviews and all the work you put into your high quality videos. By far the best out there
Your review are my thoughts exactly with the power series from CRBN, specifically the 2X. Aside from the more compact weaves in the legacy (which may be the main contributor for the higher spin vs other new gen cf paddles), the pop and larger sweet spot that the thermoforming provides brings back so much power that older generation CF paddles typically lack. I love the extra power I'm getting however learning to control that extra pop takes some adjustment. Overall, I think the skill ceiling for these new CF paddles with Thermoforming, etc is much higher, but comes with a learning curve to adjust for it.
I played about about 20 games and iiiiii like it My other paddle is the Hyperion they hit different the Hyperion just hits so nice and this feels lighter on top and bangs I like it !!!
Hey Chris, great review as always. I bought mine and weighted the throat. Absolutely love this paddle. Thanks for all the work you put in to your research
Good paddle with great power and spin. Played for 4 weeks and about 40 hours. The surface is flat. Close to gone. With two hands pressed at the top of the paddle, I hear honeycomb sound being squeeze. But not the lower part of the surface. Waiting for my second LP to arrive and will see how’s the paddle quality after a few weeks of hitting.
Just bought mine for singles play and I’m going to continue using my 003 for doubles. I like the 003 unweighted for the most part which makes it impossible to use for singles so I’m excited to get my hands on this.
So happy to see this review at last. It does seem like as the game and technology progresses there will be more and more paddles that push the manufacturing bar higher and higher. Also so glad that your and Will’s early press have been borne out. So I am very very anxious to get mine when they finally ship. Probably an inverted plus that you guys like it so much as demand has far outpaced supply. Legacy is probably not complaining about that. With Wills promo and the back order incentive this paddle was $130 not counting tax and shipping. Wow! It will be interesting to see how other companies and the pros respond. Thanks again so much for the great content. I hope you win the award that Dink is conducting.
Just flowed from your link and got the paddle (my first). I’ve only played 4 times so far, and only once with a real paddle (demo B. Jons). My ping pong swings were great on the Jons… so much so I wanted to buy it. Was looking at 003 invicta… but my first purchased paddle, un-demo’d, was this paddle because of you. 👍. Keep up the hard work on these social platforms.
These paddles are coming out fast and furious. Do you think I can convince my wife that I need 20 paddles for weather variances and depending on who I'm playing?
I ended up canceling my order because they never sent my paddle and it took weeks and weeks and weeks of delays. Very frustrating and no updates from the company.
How do you compare this paddle with the Valtic Pro? I Play with an Diadem Icon and love it but just ordered the Legacy Pro and Valtic Pro to compare. I am a value kind of guy so can't see paying over $225 for a paddle. Just think most of it is marketing and like underdogs like Legacy. Love your rewiews and information I gain from them. Keep up the good work!!
Thanks Chris i just ordered Lagacy Pro after i watched your true review i would like to try a different spin although i had Ben john JOOLA 16 Hyperion-CRBN 1-GRUVN16H.
Chris, saw earlier favorable comments from you and Will on the Vatic Pro. All user comments also favorable so ordered Vatic Pro. Injury has kept me from playing but trusting Pickleball Studio that I am going to like this paddle. Your reviews and Podcasts are first rate.
Nice one, Chris! Is there a metric for 'pop' or 'bounciness'? How about dropping a ball from 1 meter above the paddle and seeing how high it bounces? Granted, there might be some variance depending on where it lands but you can average a few takes. As long as you are consistent in the type of ball then it should be a useful metric. Probably a table tennis ball is more consistent, though it is less relevant than a PB.
Great video Chris! Bought this paddle before your review came out and am looking forward to trying it out. Coming from the SLK Omega Max and am excited about a softer feeling paddle without losing the power I currently get.
Again to think a year ago we'd be looking at 2300 rpm today - this one is king of spin at 1903. I'll take 1903 any day if I knew it would last me 8 months etc. ...
I am on my 3rd legacy pro paddle. I’ve tried so many paddles and feel let down every time I play without my LP. I cannot get the power or spin from any other paddle even if it has nearly identical specs. They all feel like a down grade. I’ve also played with every 6.0 paddle since so many people want to compare the LP to the 6.0 series and none of them compare. They are good paddles…just don’t have the power or reach. I did order the CRBN 3x and will put it up against my LP. It think it may be the only paddle to come close. I’ve tried so hard to give other paddles a chance and keep going back to my pro.
My only question before purchasing a Legacy Pro is whether the upcoming Gearbox GBX is worth $55 more? If the Gearbox GBX combines their patented SST core technology with edge foam then it will be an advancement for the industry. If the Gearbox GBX is simply another unibody, polypropylene honeycomb core, and edge foam paddle then not so much.
They just released the LP-S. Do you know if it’s an elongated paddle and if it isn’t, will one soon follow. And it supposedly remedied The delaminating problem of the LP. Do you know anything about that and how did they do it.
Wow, I'm so looking forward to getting this paddle when they restock in Feb As always, great review! Also, I spin tested the new Six Zeros, and their black diamond power got my highest spin yet (200 RPM more than the Power Air). Have you tested that one yet? I'd be curious to see how that one compares to the Legacy Pro.
John, you and Chis do amazing reviews. What are your thoughts on the carbon 1X 16mm? I'm a "younger" (31 yo) touch paddle player and have been playing with a Model E. I have been following @thepickleballstudio and @pickleballwill on the latest carbon fiber models but, I am curious on your take. I am looking forward to your latest review of these paddles. I LOVED my model E-- but as you and Chris have revealed in the past, spin dies after a couple of months (even with carbon erasers). @thepickleballstudio @pickleballwill @johnkewpickleball keep up the great work boys!!!!
@@tonycapone4803 Thanks! I've only played a couple of games with the CRBN 1x, and mine is the 14mm. But so far, so good. My impression is very similar to Chris's and Will's: there's more pop, due to the thermoformed carbon edge. The spin is top-tier. And the sweet spot is better than the old CRBN paddles, due to the edge foam. I think the CRBN 1x is better balanced then the Hyperion - less top heavy. And lighter, so better hand speed. Initial impression is that this new paddle makes CRBN one of the most relevant paddle companies, and shows that they're not content to just sit back and milk past success.
I just picked up the Legacy Pro Air. It plays a lot like the Legacy pro with a slightly longer handle. It looks exactly like the Selkirk Project 006 and you can buy two Pro Airs for the cost of one 006.
I ordered one. Hopefully I won't have the same issues with my soft game. I was thinking about this or the new SLK models, but you seemed to like this one a lot more, so I got in line.
Another great review Chris... Man have things changed in the last 10months since I've been able to play. Looks like I'll be swapping out some paddles soon. I have the same issue with my grip strength on the paddle (it's way too tight) and my soft game suffers because of it, comes from my tennis playing years. Got some other thoughts about the pro's asking their sponsors to develop a paddle like the Legacy Pro but I'll save that for a latter discussion....
I was telling people the carbon eraser wasn't getting everything off of the paddles. People told me I was using the eraser wrong though. (I noticed the white scratch marks as well on my Vatic)
Just bought one! Thanks for the code. I'm coming over from the Engage Pursuit EX 6.0, what do you expect will be my biggest challenge in terms of adjusting to the Legacy Pro?
New to the channel but love the content. I am new to pickle ball but I’m around a 4.0 and I bought a used diadem warrior edge 2022. It’s good but not great at any one thing especially the drop off from the sweet spot I come from tennis but I enjoy being up close and prefer doubles. Any recommendations on a paddle that improves on my old paddle ?
@@PickleballStudio Care to provide a sneak peak of your initial impressions? Currently torn between the Black diamond and the DBD. Oh and I've got a legacy on backorder as well. Can't help myself. 🤷♂️ I'm leaning DBD as a contrast to the power of the Legacy. What say you?
@@PickleballStudio I guess it depends on just powerful the BD is. The spin is sure alluring. Do you find the BD very similar to the Legacy in terms of difficulty with drops and dinks?
@The Pickleball Studio great review. You made my new paddle choice that much harder lol have you heard of the prodrive paddle? My friend brought it out and it pops like crazy but it’s 19mm. Are you planning on a review on that?
I have an Engage Pursuit SX 6.0 Comparison shape is to Selkirk Omni. That paddle plays exactly what you're describing very soft very controllable with a short/soft game but when you swing hard that thing comes off like a gun shot I think it's a combination of the soft black core and proprietary graphite face because the SX has so much paddle face & creates a gigantic trampoline affect.
@chris, you need to try the conda 3.0 pro, recently approved by usapa list. Out of the Legacy pro, CRBN Power, ACE Spade - i get the most spin and shape on the ball from the Conda 3.0 Pro. Would love to see your review on it.
Any chances that you've tried the Dagger by Combat Paddles? They're a Canadian brand. The Dagger is listed as Toray T700 and the price is $170 Canadian. I was wondering how it would stack up to other brands out there.
Legacy latest batch of paddles use a different carbon surface than the early ones? I got my 2nd week of March and a couple friends just got theirs early April and the new ones have noticeably larger grits. And much less power which is very uncharacteristic of this paddle. I am concerned the new grit pattern maybe found illegal and cause all to be banned like the original CBRN.
Got my paddle about 2 weeks ago. The side edging already came off. It was never glued on. I emailed legacy a few days ago and still haven't got a response.
Hey Chris or anyone else on here, Any production updates regarding the Legacy Pro? I ordered one last evening (Very excited for this paddle at the value of $150), and the paddle was listed as ********IN STOCK*******. Honestly, I am really not sure what that means considering they were supposed to restock a few months ago and payment was processed although I heard before people were waiting months for them.
Not at all like the Joola. Check out the video from the paddle creator and it shows the supurb construction of the Legacy paddle. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VMIm2KCdsos.html
Looks like someone with a similar logo says the Legacy logo infringes on their “J” logo according to an email from Legacy. Trying to slow them down. You can assume who the “J” logo is lol. They do kinda have a similar look…
Hey chris how would you compare this to the 002? Both have a long dwell time, alot of power, and a lot of spin. Is it a good assumption to say this is like a more stable 002 with a different feel and way larger sweetspot?
A LOT of people like the standard shape, The Legacy Pro-S which has a slightly shorter handle. Two handed backhand people would like the Legacy Pro better.
Hey Chris. How can Toray700 look so different on the Legacy Pro. The weave is so much tighter. The Legacy website is not finished it looks like, so how do you order from them?
Yeah, other paddles do the same type of dust, but the way it sticks to the paddle seems to be different than the other raw CF paddles. For some reason with the Legacy people thought you could see the core, but no one ever thinks that with the others haha.
@@republiusrepublius8360 i would imagine it would be a contributor, imagine a coarse sandpaper vs a finer grit one. you would get much smaller dust particles with this vs a joola
@@quidproquo9000 and make it harder to clean/remove the dust particles... If your into a pretty looking paddle face it will probably bother some people but to others who care about it's performance over looks... not so much!
If you were new and wanted to demo a paddle that would play similar to the legacy to see if a 16mm is for you, would you recommend the Electrum Model E
