@@kazejonin I was thinking more along the lines of all the statues in probably all 50 states that have been torn down or desecrated along with the history books removed from almost every school district in the last 25 years. People have been trying to erase history as long as they been creating it, starting with the burning of the library of Alexandria 1000’s of years ago. Always bc one side finds it offensive. It should be, so that it’ll never be repeated

We weren't taught anything but slavery and the civil rights movement in school. I always heard people say ," if black people want this or that they should build it themselves " . I always wondered why we didn't.. UNTIL I FOUND OUT WE DID. We built towns, cities, lucrative businesses but everytime They destroyed them. Over and Over again! 😢

I had my almost-13-year-old daughter watch this episode with me. I’ve been doing my best to have open, raw, honest conversations with her about racism and the wrongdoings and injustices of likely many of our own ancestors for a few years now… VERY important in my eyes as her mother to make sure she grows up to be a knowledgeable, kind, respectful, honest adult who treats absolutely everyone equally.

I worked in a nursing home and the greatest gift was the stories before the clients would depart. One man told me he was in the war, and his outfits had not came in and he had to wear the ones made for the black men in the army, our own government gave the men of color lower grade clothing to fight for our country and treated them differently, I listened respectfully and felt he was dealing with karma in his last days, my job was to listen,love and care for him. Some stories are hard to keep a soft face to, I've wished people would write stories more about them.

As a native Tulsan, we also were not taught about this in school. It’s wild how we can be a block from OSU Tulsa and still see blocks of empty lots where the houses burned because legislation passed years before that disallowed the survivors to rebuild their homes on the land they owned. It’s just in the last few years they’ve allowed a school to be built on part of that area. It’s decimated with poverty but there are still homes standing that show the affluence that neighborhood had 102 years ago. It’s despicable.

Honestly I had the most amazing neighbor growing up, her name was Chandra, she was like a grandma to the neighborhood kids (I grew up in a tiny town in way down southwest Florida) She was a proud African American Women and honestly as a young kid, I was never raised with any hate towards anyone, our neighborhood was super diverse. She taught some of us about her family and their history and I learned some much about this from her and honestly her only. School never mentioned it, not even a sentence. It truly is disgusting what so many innocent people went through to simply have basic civil rights. I miss her dearly, this was like 25-30 years ago, she has passed on later in my life, after living a long and beautiful life, proud of her heritage and proud to speak of it. Thank you for covering this, more people should know what happened.

@ems2824
@ems2824 Год назад
@Shene Phang I love and acknowledge my roots of origin.... but to be completely honest, we all have African roots. My point is this. We don't call white americans "european americans"... Why do people of color have to have a prefix in front of their american? I work, live, and pay taxes in america, just like everyone else does who called themselves american. A prefix by definition... Indicates a difference or less than or other than. I'm not less than, or different than, or other than... I'm an american citizen. My racial profile is black, I can be black because my family came from the Caribbean. I can be black because my family came from South America. I can be black because my family originated in australia period. There are black people all over this planet, and we all originate from africa. So if I have to be african american, then all of us have to beat african american. I love being black. I love who I am... But I don't want to be treated differently or spoken too differently because of who I am.

I love this series as a starting off point for more research. It provides some emotional context for the absurdity, unfairness and tragedy of our history, and I hope it sparks interest among viewers to do more research themselves. Thank you for bringing people these stories in the first place!

The happy ending is that there are people like you challenging the norm and spreading some truths. History is written by the victors, the conquerors, the colonizers, and it's in their interest to paint themselves in the best light. Kids think Instagram is all about projecting the right image, but governments have been editing their feed for far longer. This episode reminded me of the movie The Great Debaters, if you haven't seen it, find it, heart breaking.

Hey Bailey !!! You should google the Acadian exile and how the people were forced to leave their homes and go live in Louisiana! My family came over in 1756 but even 200 years later when cajun kids went to school they would get whipped if the spoke their native language, cajun French. Now because of that the Cajun language is not spoken at all in some parts of the state and not many young people know how to speak it.

@linxj6 what do you mean "her side"? Obviously there's a lot more info out there and people should educate themselves but there's absolutely no other side. This is a horrible part of history and no amount of whitesplaining will change what happened. The perps always have excuse and try to justify their actions. There is NO JUSTIFICATION, so beat it with that nonsense.

I must admit that it’s interesting to see all of the people in your comments talking about how they have never heard of these things. It’s much easier for them to hear these things from someone who looks like you. So while I commend you for bringing these things to a larger audience, I challenge you to highlight black women who are doing this alongside of you who get maybe 10% of the views you get.
