I got SO pissed when they said that no one wants to be ensemble. First of all without ensemble the show would be really weird. Second of all most people start in the chorus and work their way up. Third of all if that’s how you think about the ensemble you won’t do well onstage because if everyone doesn’t work together with everyone the show won’t work so if you think badly of your cast members you won’t be able to work together
Maia Weinstein if the ensemble didn’t exist there would be no show there the root of most of it when ever I’m in a show the first thing they say to us on the first night of the rehearsals is that every character it’s just as important as the main character because if you only had the main character there would be no show
An ensemble is literally a group of people working together as one unit so that means EVERYONE plays a vital role. From “Rock #3” to the lead in the show, everyone should be respected and viewed as equal.
Also if you're in a show like this where the ensemble can make or break the atmosphere... you best hope the chorus loves you and do your damndest so they do. Seriously, make their jobs easier, just be someone lovable. On top of that, casters love to see that their actors/singers work well with and are nice to others. By actively being catty you are making your life harder. P.S. always be kind to your orchestra/band and remember to thank them as well.
I commented last year but I just watched the zoom call from all the contestants and I just want to say that everyone needs to lay off Cassie. The producers decided she was the villain, even though all the girls got along. She was a sweet and inexperienced girl and they edited her to make her look bad and selfish. She said people would throw things at her when they saw her in public. She had no idea they would edit it that way. She was very young and inexperienced and didn’t know anything about broadway but she was very eager and talented and they tried to destroy her. Seth and all the other contestants have pointed out so many times how she actually NAILED the harmony but the show only showed her singing this unfamiliar weird harmony to make it sound like she can’t sing correctly. This is false. She has been on Broadway already twice. She can sing she can dance and she is still good friends with some of the other contestants (mostly Natalie) and everyone had only nice things to say about her and everyone else. The MTV producers spun things to make it look dramatic. The only people these girls didn’t like were the producers, who made them spend 8!!!!!! hours cycling that day and only gave them some food because Celina finally forced them to. The comments here make me feel sad for these girls who are continuing to get online abuse for edited drama that didn’t even happen and aired 12 years ago. All of them agreed that the cyber bullying was awful and it affected many of them in a very bad way. Please be kind. That’s the whole message of legally blonde :) Elle would lift up these talented women not tear them apart.
omg and i could totally see emma as regina, rihannon as karen, lena as janis, and then maybe lauren as cady. also bc autumn is a bit older she could be all the adult women lmaoooo. they could cast the whole show just from this group of girls lol
Coco Chanel the did a reunion like two weeks ago and all of the girls defended Cassie because the producers edited the video to make her look like the villain
Ignore this Channel too I messed up kinda of ironic that she auditioned for a role that was played by Reese Witherspoon in the movie and than starred in a musical based on a movie also with Reese Witherspoon as the lead
Cassie: * does horrible * Also Cassie: the other girls did bad and I did amazing edit: yes i know she is doing the harmony. and yes theres probably a lot cut out of the edit. but i still dont think she sounds great, even with the harmony. not her best work, she could do better.
This was a while ago but if you watch Seth Rudestky (the vocal guy) he said that he taught the girls a crazy harmony and they only showed Cassie.S singing it! So she isn’t an awful singer she was doing a harmony that they didn’t show them teaching or singing
things I’ve learned so far: •bailey and cassie have a rivalry for like no reason. they just tend to butt heads •rhiannon is really sweet and seems like a good person •drew barrymore was (is?) a cover girl
I refuse to believe these girls were 'huge fans' of Legally Blonde before they came onto the show and DIDN'T KNOW the lyrics to all Elle's songs. Also why are they so set on singing Elle and don't want to sing backup? That is the life of an understudy
whymustielaine it’s a tv show obviously they’re going to say that . In reality, everyday performers audition for roles that they aren’t necessarily passionate about but in order to get cast must act passionate about it
Keep in mind their only access to the show at this time was a soundtrack on an mp3 player and maybe the MTV video if they were given it. I agree they should know the show better though
Lena (formerly Celina)'s reaction in ep 1 to her was more than appropriate. At that point she had been on broadway in 4 shows and was more qualified to mentor the other girls. In the reunion the other contestants (particularly the younger ones) said that they learned a lot from Lena, Autumn and Emma. The oldest 3 and most experienced, which says a lot about how good of a mentor Haylie Duff was.
@@dcfan7838 Right! I also think that someone called Haylie a "Broadway veteran??" I was confused by that Lol. Paul and Lena are definitely Broadway veterans. I admire how confident Lena was in one of the episodes when she said "Ready girls?" when they were going to one of the rehearsal spaces. I wouldn't have thought she was one of the contestants Lol. Bailey even lived with Lena during her show run. I would have expected Haylie to be in the house more actually mentoring them without deleted scenes Lol.
@Bethany Taullie i do feel sorry for her, i know there were key changes, but 1. she messed up her lines, 2. she generally sounded flat and ugly and 3. she was mean haha (i would understand if they edited the interview out of context, but it doesnt seem to have any other possible context. also she was annoying)
Agreed! She was destined for better things! I believe she's the only one of these girls who won a Tony. She won for hedwig! She changed her name to Lena Hall.
Um boo if i was in a broadway show i would not care what i got as long as i persue my dreams of being on broadway and idk if i sing chorus im still on broadway
Agreed. Plus it would be easier to be in the chorus for your first broadway show. If you were the lead in your first broadway show, it would be a huge smack in the face!
1, The producers edited it in a way to make them look way worse than they actually were. 2, Both Emma and Lena had already been on broadway and new that already. 3, The theatre community is open and accpeting and very loving, no matter who you are in the cast or crew, which the girls knew but when you have a camera on you 24/7 you're gonna faulter and make mistakes at some point which are all just edited together in a way to make villians and to make them seem ungrateful
i hated it so much when they were like “who wants to be f**king chorus?!” because as a theatre kid myself and being in quite a few musicals, you have to learn that the ensemble is just as important as the lead, if not sometimes more. i’d always be disappointed when it came to getting cast in ensemble but it’s really about the experience. even being in a show is better than getting cut. so be f**king grateful that you’re even here, because u might not be for long.
honestly, having watched the reunion I feel sooo bad for Cassie. She talked about having drinks poured on her in malls and people publicly cornering and threatening her in stores because of this show. I can't imagine being on a reality show especially as a 19 year old because I was a hot mess.
OhMyGodItsNikkie she actually played Elle woods in a different theater years later! I don't remember which one, but I know there's a video on RU-vid that shows the teaser of her show! (She was always my favorite)
“I hate not being treated like a person.. they talk down on us like we’re two years old!” Uhm, it’s called critiquing. If you can’t take a simple critique then you aren’t fit for Elle.
dunchaknow holy shit, I’ve seen Lena hall at the broadway cons and didn’t realize celina was her, now that you say that though I can definitely tell but damn
In their recent reunion on Zoom, the girls mentioned this bit was edited to sound like she was crying about the judges' critique, but she was in fact complaining about the producers not feeding them properly or allowing them to take breaks, and how it almost looked like they wanted for someone to pass out just for the dramatic effect. It had nothing to do with the judges, who she very much likes to work with. The girls have talked multiple times about how the show was edited to make them all look bad, so think critically about everything shown on the show. There's an article somewhere where they discussed each episode and revealed most (if not all) of the conflict was entirely from twisting their words; they also talked a lot about this on the Zoom reunion last night. They all spent HOURS giving examples of this ridiculous editing, so this moment is only one of many. It's truly wild once you start hearing them list the examples of all the shit that was edited to twist their words, it's A LOT lmaooo I highly recommend you look into it - it's even more juicy than the show itself hahah
I feel like there’s two types of people watching these videos - adults who remember it the first time and are now well aware how toxic and unrealistic this whole process is, and have seen the zoom reunion and know how awful the producers were to the girls and how much of this is bad editing… and theatre kid high schoolers (honestly my favorite kinds of people, I promise I love you guys!!) who, I’m so bummed to see, are fully buying into all the toxicity. I get it, I did too when this came out and I was seventeen! It feels so real world theatre-y to be like, “Um it’s THEATRE 101 to know to improvise if a line is dropped!” or any variation of “the theatre world is dog eat dog and if you can’t take it, find another job” - but let me tell you, as a now-adult working actor, we are all now working so hard to dismantle so many of the toxic aspects of the theatre business culture showcased in this show! I still love it, it’s a Time Capsule and it gave me LYFE in 2008! But just know, the real world is not like this at all, and we’re working so hard to make it as healthy and accessible and equitable as possible.
Seth (the musical arranger) said in a later interview that he taught all the girls a different arrangement and they only showed Cassie's which is why it seems so odd.
If they ever bring legally blonde back on broadway, they need to do this again. And if they ever do this again, please let me be old enough to audition by then!! Elle is my biggest dream role!!! UPDATE: OMIGOD YOU GUYS!!! MY SCHOOLS DOING LEGALLY BLONDE Update: I got called back for Serena, Margot and Pilar Update: I GOT ELLE update 5 years later: doing a little update because i get replies to my comment even now!! thank you all so much!! the original comment was from my sophomore year of highschool and now i’m going into my junior year of college. i’ve actually been dating the guy who played emmet with me in that production 5 years ago, and we are moving in together in the fall:) never did i ever think that when i wrote that original comment that i’d get to play my dream role and meet my real life emmet at the same time loll
Same, but I think she handed it better then some people do when that happens. She didn't show it too much on her face which I think was very professional just from how she handled it.
She actually handled it pretty well. I thought how her expression stayed the same and she didn’t say “oh sorry” or “dang it” was pretty cool and that she went on with the song
I’m just gonna say, the casting panel was NOT talking down to the girls. They were being honest. Not condescending. If you’re gonna be on Broadway, you need to have thick skin. If that makes you break down and get all defensive, this isn’t the career for you.
For me, Lindsey was one of the most Elle in the group. Her personality, kindness, that "We girls have to stick together." attitude and her overall looks. Not to mention, her voice, acting and dance is really good. Edit: I wanted Cassie S to go but expected Celine instead. Seeing Lindsey go was hard..
awww I feel you, I loved Lindsey, she was the sweetest ! I honestly wish Cassie would’ve gone but out the 4 in the casting office, Celine should’ve gone home, she’s the least elle Woods out of them
Girls in this show: No one wants to be chorus Me getting cast in chorus: I’m gonna be in that chorus and I’m gonna have fun. WHOOP! Like come on girls if you get cast in a Broadway production even if it’s the chorus you should be very thankful for that opportunity don’t take it for granted.
@@lroberts4010 Cassie was edited to look terrible. In a recent reunion video, everyone defended her and said the producers fed them lines and forced her to play the villain.
The Song Birdie of course it it, but that’s a personal thing that she has to deal with. Just because they other girls don’t smoke, doesn’t mean they deserve the win any less because they’re not battling with trying to quit
I encourage everyone to watch the reunion zoom call because it just proves that all of these girls were mistreated and are all amazing and all of the shade was manufactured by the producers. It’s especially obvious that Cassie S is a wonderful person and they just used the worst clips of her out of context
I’ve actually had the opportunity to talk to Cassie during an interview for my podcast! Cassie is the sweetest person ever!!! Like I have never met anyone as sweet as she is! Cassie talked about how she knew nothing about theater going into the show, and the show is actually what led to her wanting to continue doing it. She also said the reason why the show was so staged was because and I quote “It just didn’t work. Theater is a community. It doesn’t work when you put everyone against each other.” So trust me when I say this, Cassie is the bomb and is super nice ❤️✨
It’s 12:37am and these girls are giving me headaches. I don’t care how good or bad you are talent-wise, your attitude is the most important thing in theatre. Wow.
look when I’m in the ensemble I’m LIVING it makes me really sad that people can’t seem to appreciate the work that goes into being an ensemble member. same goes to understudies... every member in the theater is important and has a part to play in putting together and putting on a show🤍
Ok.. I may say something shocking .. sure Emma sounded good and she did good... for a smoker. She still didn’t have the best stamina. Lauren had great stamina and just the sass she had was amazing !
Seth (the musical arranger) said in a later interview that he taught all the girls a different arrangement and they only showed Cassie's which is why it seems so odd.
theatre audrey that was just because they each sang all of it, but there are key changes in the song and they only showed certain parts from everyone’s performance
Yes the funny that her "attitude" is what allowed the girls to be fed the day they did the 8 hour cycling. It made her able to play both Yitzhak and Hedwig in Hedwig and the angry inch, the former role of which (as mentioned by efolinsky) she won a tony award and did (paraphrasing from Steven Trask who did the music and lyrics for Hedwig) "the best audition [he'd] ever seen". Seriously just search her on youtube, she's had an amazing career so far and I imagine it'll get better.
Cassie gave me such "pick me" vibes when she was like "it only takes me five minutes to get ready in the morning so i was fine and everyone else is so high maintenance"
cassie wasn't exactly wrong for kicking her peers under the bus bc they DID totally flake out on her, but did she deadass gotta do it like that? and with those BIKE VOCALS like omigod
She was actually singing the harmony correctly. The musical arranger, Seth, said she sang it correctly and did it wonderfully, but it sounds weird without the melody. :)
Holy crap! I just realized where I recognized Celina from. She now goes by Lena Hall and she ended up starring opposite Neil Patrick Harris in Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway as well as having done several other projects.
I really liked bailey in the first clip...not really a fan anymore Edit: no, I'm not a professional broadway actor, but I have played ensemble for many many plays, i have only had leads in a few. Let me tell you that the ensemble works just as hard, if not HARDER than the leads, and they have the most fun. Heck, they are on stage just as much as the leads sometimes. They play a very integral part in all musicals, and to hear some of the girls just bashing ensemble pissed me off, like come on, you can't seriously tell me every single one of y'all just jumped right in to a lead role, you had to have been ensemble at least once in your career as an actor. And if not, YOU SHOULD STILL KNOW HOW IMPORTANT AND AMAZING ENSEMBLE IS!!!
