This magical exercises change my playing by miles. I get waay better after a few excruciating weeks practicing this. Not only it helps develop your legato, it helps to stretch your finger, train each finger individually, and your finger became way more relaxe after that. This exercises works wonders. Thanks a lot man. I watched this video years ago, and i'm still doing it now if i feel like my fingers was a bit tense.

This guy deserves far more subscribers! One of the best, if not the best guitar teacher on RU-vid. For song lessons, theory lessons and just plain good guitar technique. Thanks much Carl!

This truly is a great lesson, so far it has helped me a lot, but I have one question about what you say at 3:35. Although my fingers don't go underneath the fretboard, in some cases it is really hard to keep them raised right where their frets are. It happens mostly when I do the combination of 2nd and 3rd fingers - the 1st and the 4rth fingers just seem to go as far as they can from the 2nd and 3rd. Do you have any tips? Or is it not a big deal? Hope my explanation isn't too confusing.

Oh, I've learned to compensate for a short finger (just as the short other thing). hahaha. Seriously, by using different hand and thumb positioning, you can do a lot. Besides, the "webbing" between my little finger and ring finger is permanently stretched (visibly so). So I can usually reach where I need to go.

hi im working a lot with 4 tones per string legato runs. and i use the stretch between the 2nd and 3rd finger. i know its not so natural for the hand but do u think its dangerous? what can happen do you think? nice lesson btw

Whatever is comfortable. But you don't want it to far down the neck or your bends will suck ass. My rule is have the thumb just poking over the neck, so you can get it over the neck for bends quickly will having a decent stretch range. :)

when doing some combinations i feel the muscles really tense, like using too much power to get the notes sounding clear and it`s hard to control some of the fingers that`s haven`t been used. Is it to be supposed like this to slowly get the power to perform this technique?

From my understanding that is not true legato true legato has no pull offs like the way Allan Holdsworth does it It is all hammer ons with the note melting into each other but I do it the way you are talking about because it feels comfortable to me

@ghostofgar

One thing I would like to recommend on a side note though is to practice with an amp as much as you can, I picked up the bad habit of not sufficiently muting the strings that weren't being struck ( which made for messy string noise when gain was introduced ).... it took me quite a while change my play style to fix that up. Bad habits are hard to break, so practice slow and make sure you get things down clean and efficient before speeding up or moving on.

your lesson would look much more interesting if you start off with full on showing off of what you're about to teach, just to get people paying attention. don't start off with talking too much which would cause you more bounce rate of traffic. thanks for the great lesson though.
