Legend of Dragoon is so good! When I was a kid, my Dad and I would play it at night. It was a great introduction to gaming and had a great time hanging with my Dad. I have replayed it multiple times now too for the nostalgia.
One of my favorite games. The OST is fantastic. It was so good, especially for the time. The OST duties were split between two composers -- an American guy, Dennis Martin, and a Japanese guy, Takeo Miratsu and they never met. Which is probably why the OST is, in my opinion, pretty unique. With some cool breakbeats/electronic elements. I still have listened to it throughout the years. I'd love to get a FF9 Moguri Mod type treatment for this old gem. Lavitz Slambert
for whatever reason this game is arguably the most nostalgic for me. I try to get back and play through it again every year or two, just a true gem that needs some sort of modern revival in the worst sort of way.
I love to talk to npc before and after a major event. then come back much later to see if the dialogue changed. you learn so many things about the world.
So true we deserve a prequel , anime and dare I say it a cinematic universe the lore is so abundant from the wingles to the dragon campaign to the virages i can go on ......
I actually used my dragoon forms mostly in regular battles, namely the heal or buff spells. I find that in many battles dragoon forms are a hindrance instead of a advantage. I usually just spam the attack items that clog my inventory.
For real, some of my worst moments was accidentally doing the full party transform in a boss fight. Rose could sap health to survive, everyone else died. F.
Well, I think one of the reasons why Final Fantasy seven and legend of Droon and many other PS1 RPG‘s I remembered so fondly is because they were just so many good games and the PlayStation one was mini people‘s first console since then going all the way back to the Nintendo and Sega Genesis.
You hit every detail on the head! This was my all time favorite when I was 10 years old I played this game for 3 years before I moved onto newer platforms for gaming. Like you mentioned my favorite thing about the game was the new discoveries that constantly kept happening while playing leading me to revisit many different areas of the game repeatedly lol plus the idea of changing the disc to go to another area of game was insanity to me lol I loved it! I wish they would do a continuation of the game but make it modernized graphics and mechanics with the SAME features would love to see a sequel.
To be fair regarding grinding additions, even without doing actual level grinding, you'll generally have at LEAST 5 of your additions maxed out by the time you even get to the final boss area (at least for Dart and Albert assuming you keep them in your main party, because why wouldn't you.) I can understand it being annoying for completionism, having to also do Kongol's and Haschels stuff, but Rose only has 4 in total, Miranda (the most OP late game character in the game) doesn't have any, and Meru's are fun, so it's not that bad imo for a casual playthrough. Also, yes, Legend Casque is the most busted piece of equipment in the game lol. Getting one of those for Dart and Albert each makes you an unstoppable god.
For those having a hard time leveling up additions. There is an accessory that automatically uses the full addition move. I don't think you get as much SP for it because you aren't actually doing the presses yourself. But it DOES count toward successful uses. So having a hard time landing the button presses? Just equip the accessory and do a few hundred fights. It'll be maxed out without much strife. The biggest downside to this is it takes your accessory slot from the character. But if you're not using a specific accessory for some big bonus to your build. Then just get the easy addition usage.
Legend of Dragoon is great. I'm always surprised by how little i see it come up in conversation. Though that's starting to change nowadays as it becomes more of a cult game.
This game introduced me to the world of old school RPGs. I found it in a bargain bin at Walmart for $10. I had a ps2 at this point but thank God for backwards compatibility. I made it to the second last boss and my disc had a scratch the led to the fight freezing every time. Years later it was released on the PS3 Playstation store and I finally completed it nearly a decade later. Needless to say, it holds a near and dear place in my heart and I'm happy to see it get any coverage.
The Legend of Dragoon is my absolute #1 FAVORITE turn based RPG ever made. To this day, I feel it is genuinely an underrated gem, and that it is ridiculous that it hasn't received some form of remaster. If there ever came a day where a remastered or full on remade version was created, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. The gameplay, story, and world live rent free in my mind, to this day, as do the countless voice clips from the party's various Additions. Legend of Dragoon is a game I'd gladly replay at any time, no matter how many times I've already beaten it, and I think modern day turn based RPG's could learn a lesson or two from it, even now. Thank you for making an episode on this game, Jirard, this was truly a gift I wasn't expecting to receive, out of the blue, even though I know it obviously wasn't made for me. Can't wait for whatever you have coming up next my guy.
If u can get ur hands on Shadow hearts ps2 try that similar type of attack system button input like dragoon. It’s rare and expensive unfortunately but these two games are my fav turn based rpgs
Love me Legend of Dragoon, but I have to say I think Xenogears and Legend of Legaia are a bit better imo. I'd actually say the best PS1 RPGs are FFTactics and Xenogears tied for 1, followed by Legend of Legaia and Legend of Dragoon. Then we get into games like FF9, 7 and so on.
It makes me so sad how unknown that game is. 3 and 4 were both great, but I love 3 best as well. 4 had the better story, and overall better combat, but honestly I love the 2d sprite work on 3 so much more, and I also prefer both the fairy village and the dragon gene splicing system than their counterparts in 4. Plus the soundtrack for 3 is top notch. To this day I still occasionally go back and listen to the random battle theme.
There is a Mod called Severed Chains for this game, it add helpful things like being able to save the game anywhere. You should look it up and play it on pc
This was my favorite single player game of all time! It deserves a remastered version with better graphics. Sony you’re sitting on a gold mine of Nostalgia here.
There isn't many things that could make me happier than a remake of this game.. I used to play it once a year and was so excited to see it on the Playstation+ Classic catalogue and play it all again! Please play this game if you enjoy RPG's. You will instantly understand why it is considered one of, if not THE best RPG's from the PS1 era.
Love this game, and regretted selling it to gamestop. At the time I was frustrated since I just couldn't beat what I think was the final boss. And a new Final Fantasy game had just come out that I wanted. Still, amazing game that I don't regret buying on the PSN for Vita/PS3.
@@ryanraju6774 Loyd (think that's how it's spelled). I was on the final disk, and was pretty sure he was the final boss. It was just... really hard, and after a while PS2 games began to dominate my play time.
I still think about the battle system decades later, it was such a simple but unique concept at the time. Today there are a lot more games with timed attacks as part of their system, but not many have made me feel the same way that Legend of Dragoon had. Also yes it's entirely mandatory to shout out the names of the attacks when you complete an addition, "BLAZING DYNAMO!!"
Man, you're cracked if you think the OST is mediocre or forgettable. It's got one of the most memorable soundtracks of any PlayStation RPG. Hearing any piece of music from it jets me back to teenage years.
You know, the story is pretty similar to how a TTRPG campaign progresses. Each characters have backstory to be explored, there's death of a PC and a new character sheet with the same class albeit different stats, while everything happened within overarching plot. But the chance is pretty low and I don't think that's what happened at all. It's a fun thought tho
Took me years to see the end of this game as a kid and I was kinda mad at the “happily ever after” ending without any post game. But after multiple play throughs it is honestly so great
A true legend of RPG history. This game was and is absolutely beautiful. Only single problem I had was with that desert at the beginning of the last disc.
Great game. I would recommend actually not grinding out your additions until late game unless you feel you've stonewalled. I kind of wish Additions were more like Xenogear's Deathblows, which you could access at any time in combat. But like Deathblows, there was also not a lot of reason to use previous Additions unless you found you couldn't do a later one as reliably.
As someone that played this game 25 years ago, i never did any grinding, and still maxed out the additions. You could have just played the game naturally and gotten there without overleveling.
Never owned a PS1 and was never really exposed to this game before, I'd heard about it but never saw anyone play it or anything. Honestly a bit surprised how similar it is to FF7 in graphics, the prerendered backgrounds with blocky polygon people looks very similar (plus the UI elements).
I got this as a gift when it released. Never heard of it before, fell in love with it. It's my fave RPG for the scope, the battle system and the voice acting (lol). I would love a remaster but RIP Japan Studio
OMG YES! I love when people do videos on this game! This was my first RPG accidentally. I rented this game not knowing what it was and omg I got hooked!
I’d say Chrono Cross is the best non FF but Legend of Dragoon is awesome and needs a remaster! Technically Chrono Trigger is also on PS1 but I guess ports don’t count
And Breath of Fire 3 and 4. And Star Ocean 2. And Valkyrie Profile. And Legend of Legaia. And Suikoden 2. And Grandia. And Tales of Eternia. PS1 had so many good RPGs, man. (Legend of Dragoon is still very good, though.)
It's absolutely overrated. It was underrated for years, now people call it one of the goats and it's just absolutely not. Combat is painfully slow and every dragoon transformation takes like a minute. Combat is also extremely repetitive
If they were to remake the game, they'd have to streamline the combat, make dragoon forms a bit better and redo the whole dialogue. I can still handle the combat, slow as it is, but the dialogue just drives me crazy. The story is actually real great none the less though.
I have called this game "the best Final Fantasy game SquareEnix never made". Perhaps not the best choice of words, but I have yet to find a better phrasing to get my point across. This game *NEEDS* a remake, and the sooner the better.
I absolutely love this game! I have never 100% completed it though. The battle system was a lot of fun, and the world, and areas felt so good. I can't remember a single area in the game that made me groan "not looking forwards to this part" I enjoyed all of it.
