In the traditions of many Salish and other Northwest Indian tribes, Stick Indians are malevolent and extremely dangerous forest spirits. Details about Stick Indians vary from tribe to tribe (they are described as large, hairy bigfoot-like creatures by the Salish, and as forest dwarves by the Cayuse and Yakama.) In some traditions Stick Indians have powers to paralyze, hypnotize, or cause insanity in hapless humans, while in others, they merely lead people astray by making eerie sounds of whistling or laughter in the woods at night. In some stories Stick Indians may eat people who fall prey to them, kidnap children, or molest women. They also take aggressive revenge against people who injure or disrespect them, no matter how unintentionally.

@@doorusthewalrus6903 when we heard about them (my cousins and brothers) we thought they were cool and we used to go out looking for them. We didn't think they were something nefarious. We thought they were just Indians who didn't fashion Stone heads for their arrows, they just armed themselves with sticks so we thought of them being like us cuz we carried sticks. Your video brought back of whole tide of childhood memories, thank you for that. I do miss my Great-grandparents and I was so lucky to know them.

I am from the Muckleshoot tribe. We are not allowed to say the name of these creatures under most circumstances. I have seen some of them in the woods, and one time I chased one around my car in circles at my parents' house before it ran unnaturally fast into the woods and out of sight. So far, they seem more afraid of me than I am of them, but they ARE scary. I have seen two black ones that are 7 feet tall, and a little one that was maybe 4 feet tall. They are not to be messed with, and are responsible for strange deaths and fires in our area. We know it's them due to their handprints and other signs they've been around. My mom told me that one of the handprints had 6 fingers.

I've had encounters with them on the Yakama Reservation, they're little people and known to live in the white caps deep in the mountains, they're known to bother you when your in a bad way to set you straight, and they also have compassion. They don't like when children are abused and known to threaten to take you away if your being abused. I've heard they do beautiful work with their hands, and they follow the hunters. My father said sometimes when they go through fences or trees their hair gets caught and you Never touch their hair because it's bad for whomever touches their hair. And yes you don't whistle at night, unless your trying to call them to you, they are known to have distinct whistles to communicate with each other, especially in the springtime, at night, along the rivers, if you really listen you can hear their distinct whistling to each other along a River at night. if your lucky like I have.
