Some D&D & Critical Role (CR) history, for more recent CR / Legend of Vox Machina (LoVM) fans... *:)* 1. *_Who is The Traveler? (D&D history)_** ~* For some pre-CR history... - a.) *Origins ~* Debuting *2004* under the Eberron Campaign Setting, of D&D 3.5 edition *(2003-2008),* The Traveler was technically a "dark god" as a member of The Dark Six, Eberron's Evil-aligned Pantheon. However, The Traveler was not actually Evil-aligned; The (Eberron) Traveler was/is _Chaotic Neutral,_ lumped with in The Dark Six because The Traveler refused to blithely obey the strictures of the Sovereign Host, Eberron's Good-aligned Pantheon. - b.) *Refined ~* D&D 4th edition *(2008-2014)* saw The Traveler updated into an independent deity separate from Eberron, and into a definitively Neutral-aligned god (again, _Chaotic Neutral)._ 2. *_Who is Artagan the Traveler? (Critical Role / campaign-world Exandria)_** ~* Artagan the Traveler is one of the immortal ArchFey Lords of the Feywild dimension/realm of the _Exandria_ (D&D) Multiverse. Artagan in his ArchFey form is depicted as a broadly androgynous being (usually an elf-type), though nominally male for simplicity of reference (Artagan is a shapeshifter and does not actually care about gender either way). - a.) *Raw Power vs. Power Use ~* As an ArchFey, Artagan is, "technically" (note "quotations"), *very* powerful, only a few short steps below deity-level power; this is visually depicted in-cartoon by Artagan's starry-filled eyes (8:28). However, the counter-balance is that Artagan's titanic powers is limited in scope and use; Artagan cannot go around granting wishes/prayers, &/or blowing things/creatures up, either on whims or active desires/hatreds. - b.) *Warlock ArchFey Pact ~* The most common form of Artagan doling out his vast power to any of his followers is via the Warlock ArchFey Pact. However, this power is Arcane in nature (bards, sorcerers, warlocks, wizards), not Divine (cleric, paladins) as with other (D&D) gods, or nature/Primal based (barbarians, druids, rangers). - c.) *Surprise(s) for an Immortal ~* Artagan would come across a lonely little tiefling girl named *_Genevieve "Jester" Lavorre,_* becoming her "imaginary friend" (note "quotations") as a form of both amusement and affection (Artagan genuinely cares about Jester's well-being). Jester's devotion to Artagan would have an unexpected and unintended effect upon the ArchFey, an effect that even Artagan would never have expected in his millennia of existence... *;)* 3. *_Artagan the (ArchFey) Traveler vs. The (D&D) Traveler_** ~* So how Artagan the ArchFey relate to The (D&D) Traveler deity..? I fucking lost it when Arty showed up, i jumped out of my chair, my sister looking at me like "and that is?"

Two things: 1. I love that Percy isn't offended and is genuinely asking, rather matter of factly why he's been drawn with three peni! 2. The reveal of Artagan/The Traveler at the end is a great way for new fan to be like "who is this guy" while old fan are excited because that pretty much confirms that we would get The Mighty Nein down the road!

Vex, Laura, encounters Garmelie first. He tries distracting her by pointing over her shoulder. "No, I'm not falling for that." Artagan and Jester: "Hey, what's that over there?" "Mm-mm!"

Matt's fucking expressive acting of this character 😍👌 the facial expressions, the body language, just *chef's kiss*

the fact that we had Merry(Dominic Monaghan) and Pippin(Billy Boyd) in the animation makes me so happy...

Honestly I'm glad Matt's the one doing voice for Arty, it would feel wrong otherwise

I love it. When he said he was "merely the traveler on this journey" I was laughing so hard. My roommate, who hasn't seen Critical Role but does see the series was confused when he turned into Artagan. Kind of explained it to him a little.

The second he talked about his hate for the theater I remembered. “Oh! OOOOOHHHHHH!!!!!”

I cant wait for the mighty nein animated series. Jester is going to bandalize so many places, walls, statues, posters with the traveler's "symbol" and anything in reference to Garmeli as well.

This was great in animation. I just wish they didn't split the party. Having Grog, Pike, and Scanlon meet Garmeli would have been fun to watch animated.

Interesting to see these as someone who started watching for campaign 2. Watching the show leaves me in bewildered as to how the party could be split and deal with these scenarios. I know there was always embellishments on the tv show, but makes me feel a little better about myself now knowing there wasn't actually these two arcs that went on with a split party

Honestly, I'd love to see a game with Matt Mercer as a Satyr Bard or Eladrin Elf Druid, get more Artagan backstory

oh lord. I never put that together that Garmelie was The Traveler. Thought it was just some Fey Lord. Of course Laura would make a character that worships someone who draws MAD Magazine art.

It's interesting the juxtapose this Laura and her character with Laura as Jester. Personally, I like this form of play more, as Jester is funny at times, but can drudge into obnoxious, especially when they are talking with a serious/powerful/important NPC.
