@@Fidelity7 try band assisted like he showed, except the band supports you from your feet Also, plug any leaks in your kinetic chain (keep your core tight and put your legs slightly in front of you, like when you tighten your glutes) Stabilize your shoulder blades before you lift, and try to pull your chest to the bar, not your chin Aim your chest at the bar so you are using more of your back muscles Strengthen any weaknesses in your shoulders with exercises that are good for your rotator cuff etc (I don't know the specifics on these but with a few cursory searches I'm sure you could find them)
@@Fidelity7 Also I saw a video on smashwerx where he said a one-rep-every-minute technique is better for your stamina than doing all at once Remember you are lifting heavy weight so your body needs a little time to recover If you can do 5 with good form I'm sure cleaning up a little technique and doing some stabilizing exercises will push you past that plateau
This level of training is excellent. The breakdown and analyzing of the skill really makes it achievable. This goes for any skill. half the time when people believe that they can't achieve something. It's because they haven't really been coached well in it and try to take the whole thing on all at once.
@@mahri9022🤣🤦🏿♂️not even a thousand years close…🤦🏿♂️😂you do realize calisthenics have been around for thousands of years, right? The ancient Greeks and Chinese used it frequently.
Perhaps you misunderstood what I said. What I said is that I am a real mortal but Stay Flex is beyond that, as he is beyond mortal status. He is a super being. Hopefully this clarifys my comment. I wish I were as flexy or as strong as either of these two immortals. Either way I enjoyed the post.
Going to try this. I can do weighted pull ups with 100 lbs attached to me, but couldn't do a 1 arm pull up when I tried. Hoping this approach will get me there. Thanks for sharing it!
@@ryanlynch290 Hey man, still working on it! The band assisted pull ups aren't too hard, but hasn't seemed to get me all the way there. Still think I'm a few months away from being able to do it. 4-6 months is my current estimate.
@@garythebard Ahh cool. I have it as a goal too. About ten years ago I weighed probably 185-190 and could get 23 strict pullups. I fell off doing them for a long time and I weigh about 230 now. I have getting back up to 20-25 pullups and working my way to one armed pullups as a goal. Here's a playlist I've made for training methods and inspiration. Lots of good techniques here. Maybe you can get something from it! Good luck! ru-vid.com/group/PLbQk2tDF0wd-rr9HgLZ0iwF9qXl5wGikd&si=hVdTHLVKphNJsvrx
@@garythebardNegatives are the best way to go. I got a one arm pullup with only doing negatives and then partials. I wouldn't bother with trying to do assisted full range of motion reps to be honest, especially if you are doing weighted pullups. Edit: I stopped training for 3 years though and recently started again but I'm now 15lbs heavier than what I used to be (a lot of that is muscle). I just started training for the one arm pullup again, I can currently barely even hold a negative for a few seconds.
You may not believe it, but Frank is 4 months shy from being 66 years old. Such a wonderful human being, I grew up watching his calisthenics videos 12 years ago and he becomes more and more amazing as times goes by. I can't but wish I would look like that 40 years from now.
He is not that old. That is a different Frank Medrano. Stupid bio sites got it wrong and now Google spreads the incorrect info. According to his own Facebook page he is currently 45.

When I was living in Moscow, there was a guy, looked average, he could do 10 one hand pull ups on each hand. Dude was the coolest guy. He actually invited me to train with them daily. Best 6 months ever. We trained daily. I went from 5 strict pull ups to 20 in those 6 months and I finally could do 1 hand pull up
@@sealthrux compared to the average human, being able to hold yourself up with one arm with no prior training is very strong. not everyone is as talented as you or your gf my guy 😘
Big muscles are irrelevant, strength is about a well developed branching system (cardio respiratory and nervous systems). That’s why there are some small guys who can achieve crazy feats of strength Edit- big muscles could mean you have more capacity for strength. But regardless irl it doesn’t matter too much if you’re physically the strongest unless it’s your spiritual calling. Be an all rounder, strong fast, agile, intelligent, wise, healthy, and a true man/woman. Also Testosterone isn’t too important either.
They say big muscle have more of a capacity for strength, but honestly... the more small power lifters I see, the more I think big muscles for power is a COMPLETE myth
Big muscles are absolutely relevant as bigger cross-section of a muscle is a great predictor for raw strength it can provide. It's not all there is to it as technique and neural activation also are contributing but that's not the same thing as size being irrelevant. What is worth keeping in mind htat strength increases due to size have a tradeoff when it comes to things that are strength to weight ratio dependent. Like pull ups or one arm pull ups.
when you do the negative put your other arm on top of your forearm so you can catch yourself if your strength gives out, you can injure yourself if you fall and let your shoulder catch you
I appreciate that he gave a guide on not only how to do the pull up but how to work up to it. True, we might not all may be able to do it but at least if we try, we have the correct information to work with.
