The yearly rainy season has started in cities in southern China's Guangdong province. This has led to flooding in cities, causing issues like closed roads and schools being shut down. Heavy rains have flooded low-lying areas of cities such as Qingyuan, making it difficult for people to move around. In response, Qingyuan has issued a red alert, which is the highest level warning for weather emergencies in China.
Nearby cities like Zhaoqing are also facing flooding, leading to transportation challenges. The Ministry of Water Resources has reported that the Beijiang River has flooded for the second time this year due to recent heavy rains.
At the hydrological station in Qingyuan, water levels have reached 12,000 cubic meters per second, meeting the ministry's flood standard. The ministry is maintaining its level IV emergency response and urging local authorities to combat flooding.
Apart from flooding, heavy rains have trapped many people at home and caused transportation disruptions in Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces.
Shaoguan city has experienced significant flooding and road closures in the last 24 hours due to heavy rainfall. Rescue teams, including firefighters and armed police, are assisting in relocating people and repairing roads.
