WOW - - WOW - - God Bless RAPHAEL FAYS who along with his father LOUIS FAYS is one of the guys who early on kept the DJANGO REINHARDT appreciation alive and well - - Lots of memories here for me at least - - I remember for a few times in the mid - 1980s jamming at Chris' Music Store on Long Island , New York with the violinist CHARLES WIZEN who long ago - - sometime ago - - played with Raphael Fays - - they have an album out too on the Carrere records label with Louis Fays and Patrick Saussois on rhythm guitars and Claude Mouton on bass - - Charles Wizen told me that at age 17 he actually played with Django in Paris in some pool hall or cafe / bistro !

A true MAESTRO. How he has hus unique way of playing flamenco with a pick has always inspired me to tackle classical repertoire in that way

His version of "Troublant Bolero" (on RU-vid) is my favorite. Love the sound of the nylon string guitar -- especially in his hands. So fluid. BTW those subtitles, brah😜

Wonderful. He and his father, and Bireli were the first Gypsy Jazz guys I heard from a Jazz Alive broadcast of the Montreux Guitar Summitt, 1980. His work with Charles Wizen is stellar. Thanks Brah!

His nylon string guitar sounds way better and more 'gypsy' than a lot of GJ guitars? Hmmm

Hello Denis, I hope you are doing well, my friend ! Thanks so much for posting this great interview with Raphael Fays. He was one of the first Django guitarists I heard after Django....

Moral of the story: si ça ne vient pas de Tico ce n'est pas du jazz manouche

It s hard to see but i m actually sitting quite behind him to be farther from the mic so that my guitar doesnt over power his nylon string 😂😂😂

Everybody's a gypsy, until it's time to do gypsy skabala.

The soloist is is a good guitarist unfortunately, like many guitar players is speeding the tempo and it doesn’t sound good. The timing of the comping is superb however.
