I remember one time when he was playing the Expos, in the stadium that was built for the Olympics he (Stargell) hit a ball that not only cleared the right field wall. It also hit on one of the upper level of that stadium! They figured that baseball went around 575 feet! He also hit a baseball at the old veterans stadium that landed on the highest seating level of that time. The Phillies were so impressed with that shot they painted the seat were the baseball landed in black and gold with his number eight painted on it!
Pops did it TWICE before the next player accomplished the feat, Mike Piazza in 1997 vs. the Rockies. (Piazza is the only Dodger to hit one out of the stadium; the rest have been visiting players: Stargell (Pirates), McGwire (Cardinals), Stanton (Marlins), and Tatis Jr. (Padres)). Stargell is still the only player to do it twice, and his Dodger Stadium record of 506 feet 6 inches still stands.
When Pops hit 'em, they STAYED hit!! LOL!! If you were pitching to Willie Stargell and he hit you with a line drive, you'd be dead. Not only that, but they'd be picking your dead body up somewhere in center field!
@@douglaslowe5 Hi, Doug ! - we’re broiling in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex with temperatures for the last 30 days ranging from about 98 to 109 degrees, and for the foreseeable future there’s no relief in sight. I wish I was visiting LA-LA land (Southern California) at least through mid-September. I can see why the Texas Rangers decided to build a new stadium with a retractable roof. Let's go DODGERS 2022!!! ⚾️⚾️⚾️ ROGER, The LOS ANGELES DODGER
How do u swing that weakly slowly and with one arm and hit out of a stadium while I swing all my might and barely hit it over the fence or warning track
