I think season 1 is the best one of 'Legendary' 'cause... Look at the material! Let me know in the comments what your favorite season of the show is. :P #legendary #ballroom #voguing
@@SalvagedCreativity I love how Dominique kept the same standards for this show as a real life ball. Part of the expectation with a show that’s now available for mainstream audiences is for it to be viewed through what is new or shocking to them, but she made it clear that she wasn’t gonna sacrifice authenticity for commercial gain and that’s real.
@@ii954 RIght and people think she was over the top and doing too much too like... Miss thing you're gonna hate actual ballroom places then because they're much more extra than this no tea no shade.
I remember watching this during the lockdown, it was such a surreal experience. I can't express how much love i have for this show that helped me in a difficult time
I usually find it corny when people always claim the first season is always the best cause “that’s when it all started” but for Legendary that’s basically the case. S1 was just magical and fun. However, I think the format change is basically what hurt S2 and S3, S1 was fun because not every episode had a performance, we had runway episodes, category episodes and performance episodes so it made everything an even level playing ground, making it more unpredictable and also showcase each house member’s strength. S2 and S3’s point system ended up taking away a lot of that as every episode has a performance with a 5 minute category for an extra 5 points so there’s not much change or variety which as result doesn’t highlight each member at all as the main focus now are performances.
Idk I’ve always preferred season 2 just because they let Dashaun actually host - Jameela’s cringey self imposed lead judge role in S1 made parts of it so hard to watch 💀
What you mean? Season 3, you can clearly see they dress up for the theme every ball. It might not be as in your face because the audience is more hidden in the current season due to the staging, whereas the audience in season 1 was more visible
Its so exciting to see males who dance in a 'feminine" way be celebrated for being their authentic self. For so long gay men have had to try to hide that part of themselves, and try to be 'masculine', this can inspire young LGBT people to be who they are. Its so saytisfying seeing dancer like this being adored.
Its not just "males" or "gay men" in fact categorising them in such boxes completely defeats the purpose but i do understand how that could be empowering to a self-identifying cisgender gay men, its not that its an art form where we express true masculinity but a form where we actively reject and rebel against masculinity we are not "gay men", we are a purely non conforming entities who transcends the limitations and norms of heteronormativaty and the gender binary. So yeah, some of these "gay men" are not men at all and some of us dont use the label "gay" and much prefer to identify as "queer"
@@superego7533 you speak for all of Ballroom? It is empowering for a Cis person to see *some* of the performers balance the concept of being cis and not playing by the rules of gender expression. A bitch can act fem, masc, dress or look whatever they want and change it on a dime but their gender not needing to change to break from conformity is empowerment.
@lar ksjsk I believe there talking about it being more mainstream and on different social platforms like tv, RU-vid and so on. Yes ballroom has been around for some time but for a while it was hidden, not any more though is the point I think they’re making
The thing that has annoyed me the most about the recent season is the lack of categories. I prefer the category battles to the group performances. I want iconic moments like the hero vs villain hands performance and the "get over here" snatch.
i was so excited when i saw that the audience was getting back in season 3 cause i thought it was really missing in season 2, but they are not giving like the season 1 audience was giving. changing location of filming was a mistake. the s1 audience was truly ballroom audience, in s3 they're just there standing and clapping 🙄
Its probably bc season 2 was *technically* rigged. Balenciaga was contractually pushed to the very end. Honey's contract said that she would only appear on the show if she was guaranteed to make it to the end.
I live near LA and I think people didn’t show up because most people did not meet vaccine requirements. I remember when they released tickets for audiences and the requirements said you needed all booster shots by January 2022 and filming was in March I believe. If you see LA today most neighborhoods feel like ghost towns still, even a lot of gay bars did not make and have been foreclosed due to the pandemic. . If we get season 4 in 2024 I think the audience will be much better. This year felt like test run back to normalcy after COVID.
Erika ate her damn heel with that "that's why we shouldn't be battlin' virgins, I AM legendary" rant when she lost and had to chop Gucci using Makayla, that episode was so much!
The fact that Honey and Lolita have been shining lights in the seasons they got on... Legendary season one energy. But it does suck that as Leiomy's garments and hair got better we got less of her performing on the runway
Lanvin saying every 5 seconds Balmain is a virgin and losing to them in the final round... I lived xD Balmain, Ninja, and Lanvin were amazing this season
I don't want to take anything away from the casts of Season 2 and 3 because the talent is there, the passion is there, and the performances were definitely there! The only real issue with the later seasons is the production - it's become over-produced to the point where it's not doing the Houses justice! The stage is just too big (wide and long), the lights and effects are too much, and the judges are too far away to be connected to the performances! I love to see Ballroom being highlighted and elevated properly, but there is a line where it becomes style over substance, and the battles especially don't have the same feeling of grit and authenticity as they did in Season 1, and I think that's because of all the extra production which is taking away from the talent, which is there!
While I definitely agree that production takes a role (yes! Why are the judges so far away?!), I believe the hunger from season 3ms contestants aren’t there. Season 1 had something to prove out the gate so the creativity and tenacity was there. I also wish to see more judges that have a connection with ballroom like Teyana Taylor, FKA Twigs..
Mother Shannon talked about this last season. The all white production and lack of ballroom representation besides the talent is what’s holding this show back. A lot of these houses do amazing in the real ballroom scene but how are you going to let producers pick people from completely different chapters in a house that they never met each other but because they’re good for TV that’s the selection that’s made not necessarily emphasis on the cohesion or bond of the groups
@@maxbaltz2490 oh wow. So you’re saying the members of the house aren’t necessarily from the same city/region house. So they’re mixing LA/NY girls of the same house?
@@breskiboo Yep! Production decides the houses they'd like to choose from, and then individual houses and chapters under that overall house must apply to be on the show, however, production decides each house member so you can end up with a team with members from different chapters who may know of each other but don't often hang out in the same circles.
Just recently watched S1. All I want to say is "that mummy serving you Old Way!" (5:56) has haunted me ever since. I say it when I'm in the store. I say it alone in my room. I don't know if I'll ever escape it.
still the best season ! the other seasons just lacked the authenticity of s1, i also feel production also messed up w. the cast moments, we were shown alot more into the lives of each house members while the newer seasons i just didn’t feel invested enough to root for them
Because season 1 was the only season that let them cast their own houses. Producers not from ballroom don’t know who to look for and season 2 was amazing but Covid restrictions didn’t allow them to interact with other houses. I think an All stars or a really amazing season 4 will help this franchise. I don’t want to say because of one not stellar season that the franchise needs saving. I think they have proved that their formula has worked not perfectly but entertainment wise yes
@@maxbaltz2490 even if they did let them cast their own houses, that still wouldn’t matter if they’re not showcased. s1 had like an untucked like scenes where the house members would sit and talk to eachother and it allowed us to get to know them individually. The performances also don’t feel as grand either
yeah we all get that its a new season and they're trying out new things but i wish that they don't get rid of the things that make it great. that's why rewatching season one is still as impactful
That absolutely GAGGED ME- It did give a chance for houses to work together and bring themselves to the top. Especially with the fact that it made me even more gagged with the results at the end of the episode.
I love that in Season 1 other categories had equal weight to the performances. I feel like that was lost in Season 2 (and continued with Season 3) when the other categories are more an afterthought as a way to earn extra points. As someone not in ballroom I felt like seeing the other categories allowed me to learn much more and made it different from every other dance competition show. Season 2 had so many great, creative houses but you could feel how production was pushing for Legendary to just become more or a dance competition show instead of what it could be.
No shade, but Leiomy and Deshaun's Perfirmance was the best of the season. I love this show with all my heart and soul. Amazing how much it has evolved in just 3 seasons. So Fucking Superb.
watching this... I get why Leiomy was a bit bored on the season 3 performances and I get why I got lazy watching the next epsidoes of it too TT compared to season 1 that I finished in 1 sitting
I will never get over the jazzul chop he was giving body and the little wheat in the mouth was the final straw for me Also how the fuck did makayla climb up that fucking wall I need to know
This will forever be the best season of Legendary! The people on now are great but a lot of them aren't from the ballroom they're just amazing dancers. Season 1 was ballroom!
The best moments are when two performers are duking it out and after their stunning performance they show their competitors an overwhelming amount of love. Ballroom is about the show, but also the love. It warms my heart to see incredible talents celebrating each other 😭
the guy with the shiny stoned dress is a frequent ballroom audience. i swear i see him everywhere in ballroom pages in instagram giving all the face and reaction
I love how during the battles, if the performer runs at the house they just know what they finna do like yep now we queen chair flippin them back onto the catwalk! Like its choreographed and I knowww its not, I was a battle hip hop dancer and those moments are organic and exhilaratin!!!!! UGGGHHH BALLROOM YOU SAVED MY HEART! Special shoutouts to Carlos 😭🫀 such a Legend in the dance world in general!!!
I've only seen the 1st season in full (only season that's here in the UK) but I've seen clips of the others and none of them compare to my love of 1st. Lanvin, Balmain, Ninja, Escada etc. They were all so good
Gay culture is such a beautiful, colorful and energetic thing. It’s just incredible to see the creativity and passion the gay community has for everything they do. Specially the black and Latinos
There were so many off the cuff funny and organic moments from this season. 😂 Ngl some of the houses from s3 feels like folks that just wanted to be on tv lol
