What I really, really like about your channel is its focus on old-school riffing / rhythm guitar for the amp demos. Much more useful to me than crazy shredding or djenty single string morse-code riffs. I also like the energy of riffs in standard E tuning. I started playing guitar in the 90s and most of my favorite bands used the standard D tuning, and this is what I used since then, without even thinking about it. Lately I have been re-discovering standard E, though. Sounds much clearer, more aggressive than D and has a certain roar about it that I could never achieve when playing in D standard.

What's also really cool is tuning to A= 432hz, it has some of the bassier, darker tones from a lower tuning but retains the roar and clarity of standard tuning. Lesser used but still just as cool.

I think what I have noticed about mods that add gain is, it shows how much the people who designed the amps knew what they were doing. Sounding sick as always.

6:50-7:10 is very reminiscent to Metallica hard wired tone. Which I liked a lot. Wow. Modded Marshall is the way

Nice! Will definitely be grabbing one of these, even though usually just a boost with the amp gain on 7 gets me what I want. These amps just suck up anything you push them with so well, get thick and roaring as f..k, yet if you strum a big chord, you can still hear the attack on each string jump out. Love them so much I had to own two. From reading the site, the 2203X requires a reverse wired version, but vintage ones, and my 2203KK, use the regular one, so I guess I will have to get two lol.

I can't tell in this vid -- where was your master volume at on the amp? I've been thinking about getting one of these for my Studio Classic, but I've got no idea how it would fare at higher MV values (I prefer the sound of mine run with the MV at about 8 [out of 10, not 8'o clock] to get power amp saturation), or how it compares to just putting a clean boost in front of the stock amp (I love the sound of mine with just a VFE Standout in front of it).

I have to wonder, what would this sound like with 12AU7s in the rest of the preamp? Would it create an extremely touch sensitive sound without losing the gain? I know having a 12AX7 in the V1 and a 12AU7 in V2 and V3 gives you a very touch sensitive sound with lower gain, but this increases gain too.

I have one that I use sometimes in my 2204. I put a 12AX7 and a 12AU7 in my V2. Now, I can volume down on my guitar and actually get a clean sound.

Would this work in the Friedman Runt? P.S. why does nobody use a Blues Driver as a metal boost ? It pushes everything with the volume at noon, Gain at 25% pushes a med gain into high gain.

Kyle... what are your actual amp settings? I don't know what your doing but you always seem to dial in something that's reminiscent to a Buried Alive tone. High mids and low treble?

Yep, that's typically what I do. Higher mids, lower treble. use presence for overall brightness.

It needs to attach to a circuit inside some amps which is called the cathode follower. Then it layers the gain stage on top of that. Not all amps use cathode follower circuits, so that's the main limitation.

It can only work in one position that's called the "cathode follower" which is the middle preamp tube in a typical JCM 800 or JMP Marshall. Certainly I wish it could work in any position or amp - that would make my job a WHOLE lot easier :)

Say if i have 3 cathode followers after each circuit with it? doubling up on twin tubes would be so cool. i understand there are variables and well it may not work or tear it up or whatever, but i am willing to try it in the name of science , or simulate a volcano if that comes first.
