(Producer Note: There were two sections of the video dropped out, so we corrected and reuploaded)
Pat Musi is a byproduct of his environment. Growing up tough was not an option; it was a requirement from the Carteret, New Jersey native. A lifelong car enthusiast, Musi grew his love of the automobile into a passion for street racing, then racing Modified Production, and then Pro Stock.
Musi credits his drag racing tenacity with his tough upbringing of working for his father. He asserts he likely got fired once a week from a job where he carried everything from oxygen bottles to wood, and that likely contributed to his healthy assault and battery record, a record he chuckles about.
In addition to eight series championships as a Pro Street racer, Musi boasts an unsuccessful record on the People's Court but was a star, nonetheless. Speaking of television records, Musi later found a role with the No PrepKings.
In this second episode of Season 7, Legends: The Series, Musi opens up about his career in drag racing and innovation. He's brash and bold but, most of all... entertaining.

Now Pat’s dad, “The Old Man”, Ralph Musi Sr. was a great guy. I remember a time when I was on leave from the army and stopped by his shop and talked to him and Uncle Tony for a great while. Mr. Musi would always give me work when I quit working for Pat (for about a week every now and then). I can’t say enough about the Musi’s. They were always good to me.

Let me tell you about Pat. I was a HS dropout and he gave me a job at his shop when I was 16. He basically ran a place for wayward children. I started by cleaning the engine building machine shop. That’s where I learned about building and machine work on engines. If you listen to him talking about pouring cement (devcon) into engines, that was me. The 512 casting Chevrolet blocks were the deal back then. After he realized I wasn’t a screw up, he let me work on the Pro Stock car. My job was to unload the car, pull the engine, clean the car and stock the trailer. We went to races down south in IHRA at the time and I got to meet Roy Hill, Ricky Smith, Tony Christian and Warren Johnson. Kurt Johnson and I shagged tires on Honda 50’s and raced them back then. For a teenage Jersey boy this was a big deal. Thanks to Pat getting me started as a mechanic I have an Aircraft and Powerplant mechanic and pilots license and a degree in aeronautics. My boys have engineering degrees. People have no idea how good Pat was to us. In my opinion, what he did for kids like me far outweigh his racing career.

This was awesome!! I have to say, I've only really been following drag racing since the first series of Street Outlaws, the original series with Tyler Priddy (Flip). I always knew Pat had been around a long time and how successful his daughters were in drag racing but this is my first time hearing these stories from Pat snd seeing him in some of his early cars. Kind of gives me a whole new level of respect for Pat even though I respected him anyway. Lizzy is still one of my favourites to watch right now in NPK.

As a kid who grew up at the Drag Strip from the young age of 16 like Pat did, I can totally relate to all he has been through. My self racing a 68 Camaro SS 4speed car with a 427 engine and running Street Stock/Stick A class and dominating the Hemi's and Big Block Ford Mustangs and others on the drag strip, I was absolutely hated, Funny thing is I never had a bad feeling twords any other racer but when I pulled the Helmet on I cared about one thing....cutting a good lite and crossing the stripe first period...most misunderstood this as being cut-throat or win at all cost.....well to be honest I was there TO RACE...THE OBJECT OF A "RACE" IS TO WIN!....NOT DONATE MY MONEY (which I worked for and earned every penny of myself) Trophy's are nice to look at but a pain to dust and they get old and fade....I wanted the paycheck....so I could afford to go to the next weekends races....some we had to drive 6-8-10 hours just to get to the following Friday night....just to make time trials on Saturday, sleep in the old crew cab Chevy Forest Service 1 ton Pickup cab and race on Sunday to load up and haul butt back 6-8-10 hour drive to be home and to work Monday Morning....Pat understood that to race it took time, brains, innovation and MONEY....something I learned very early. I had to sell out and get parked when the Gas Crunch,Inflation and Carter's economics took over plus I got married and decided to raise a family, gradually as the kids grew up we got back into racing and are still going strong today.....but if it wasn't for guys Like Pat I woulda parked my shit and gave up years ago. So Thanks Pat.....even though you have no idea....you did more for guys like me than you can ever imagine. We wish you and Lizzy all the success in the world going forward and a fantastic winning new year.

It was cool to see this video BUT many of us knew a lot about Mr. Musi 'cause we studied everything about him we could find. He's earned the respect, I might go so far as to say the adoration,, so many in the racing world have for him. His skill's building those HUGE Pat Musi race engines,, WOW!! There are a lot of HUGE motor builders out there these days but Pat was (arguably) the FIRST to build a motor in the 900ci range that could produce results pass after pass. We wish him and his team all the very best for 2023 and that they enjoy SAFE travels to and from every race and that they can have each of their awesome hotrods drive BACK into the trailer under their own power after every event.

We went to Rockingham this year and it was the first time we ever got to experience any type of street outlaws event. I really wanted to meet Lizzy and Pat but Lizzy had a line that was like 2 miles long of people waiting to get her autograph and pictures with her. And Pat was pretty much nowhere to be found LOL I'm sure he was working on the computer tuning? But it is what it is, I did get a picture with his wife and I thought that was pretty cool that she did that. I hope it made her day because it seemed like no one was asking her for anything like that. That's not the reason why I did it, I did it because I wanted to. But I wish it could have been a picture with all three of them to be honest that would have been really awesome. And maybe that can happen one day in the future. It was a great event we had a blast. I'm not real sure what the future it's going to hold between KYE KELLY and the rest of the family I guess only time will tell. I'll see why he was mad but at the same time, you've got to understand.. Lizzy is a racer too and that's what they're there to do is race, I feel like he was expecting her to give him that win... and if you look at it that way, let's just say she did, and he actually won the championship.. would you be able to say he got it honest? Because I promise you Ryan Martin earned all three championships. But this is about Pat, I do believe that Pat is a legend without a doubt. I believe he deserves to be in this group on this channel without a doubt! I really enjoyed this episode. Although my favorite episode is the one of Scotty Cannon because he's just a HomeTown hero Of Mine! His son Brandon used to ride to school with me.. but anyways, I just thought this was definitely a good episode. Keep them coming!

Kyle was told by Pat musi that they put a conservative tune in Lizzie's car, so Kye turned the six kit off. If Pat said to kye we're going to try to take your head off that's how Kye would have prepared. Kye Even said I didn't know we were trying to blow our motors up and Lizzie set a personal best. Pat lied and did the opposite That's why Kye was mad. Not because Lizzy didn't lay down for him.

A guy i knew bought a 64 chevelle back in 96 and it had a Pat Musi built 396 from late 70 to early 80 s in it.I believe car was also built back then and it was the fastest street car around here in Finland.1997 I got a challenge from him as I had a 64 malibu ss with 462 bbc built by me,myself and I.He ran low 12 s and i went 11.47 on a slippery airport track, which was about 0.5-1 sec slower depending on the car in question.I ran 10.80 at125.80 at a legit prepped track later. My 462 had cast Fe heads and just Lunati roller with 0.700 lift and car was street driven a lot, like 8 hours straight one time as it was normal to cruise to sunrise back then. That gave name to our car club,Sunrise Cruisers Waasa Finland.WE are so far north,in mid summer during Solstice we cruised just about round the clock.I remember one time when we cruised my dad s 1970 Plymouth Fury III sport and came home to sleep 5 o clock in the morning and nobody was sleepy so we decided to hit it again. We could easily drive a good 1000 km/620 miles at one good around the clock cruise.

The NHRA basically killed and took out us small people who had the big enough guns to beat the choosen ones. Meaning us who never had big money backing and helping us out, and we struggled to build our cars in tiny garages ect on dirt farms, and had to rely on what money we made working for wages and odd track bets. But NHRA brought down their rules knowing if we never had the resorces and abilities to make the changes to our cars to their rules.
