Here's my first time beating Heady Metal's Revenge legit without using the level select feature. If you guys remember anything from my first attempt at this project, you know that it took me FOREVER to beat it. But this video just goes to show how much easier it is if you actually make the effort to look for all the secrets that Drios has hidden. They're everywhere! I amassed so many lives in this run that I not only beat all four bosses without the level select, but I also did it one continue, with 41 to spare!
Big shoutout to Drios, the author of this project, who invested countless hours into the level design and his attention to even the most minute of details. It looks awesome, plays awesome, and it's simply the best mod of this game to date. I also cannot go without giving credit to Skarloey100, Tyadran, and Lord Molyb, who I know helped Drios out with level testing and some of the more difficult stuff like enemy, platform, and background programming. for sure! Kid Chameleon is hands down one of my favorite video games period. Always imagined a sequel like this one; same graphics, same level themes, same music, same helmets, etc...basically the same game with 100 all new levels and another 30 or so elsewhere levels. Just ordered my own copy...Can't wait to get lost with it!

Dude you are a master player....goddamn! This game looks so much harder than the original, especially that cave level that you said you lost so many lives on. I would've smashed my controller in frustration!

I just came across your channel yesterday and I love finding people who have as much appreciation for Kid Chameleon as I do. Great job on this playthrough, by the way! I've been playing Kid Chameleon since it came out 25 years ago and I'm not even as good at the original game as you are at this mod! Props to you, dude! :D

That's great to hear man, this is actually my favorite videogame ever made if you can't tell already XD Whelp, if you pour a ton of hours into the original like I did, then you could pretty much handle anything the mods try to throw at you. Speaking of which if you haven't played any of the mods which I showcase, I highly recommend giving them a try!

Haha, I saw a few of your videos already and I can tell! But, obviously I can see why, because Kid Chameleon is such an awesome (and highly underrated) game. I'm very happy that it's getting the love and attention it deserves today, especially because when I was a kid and playing this for the first time, none of my friends even knew what I was talking about since it was kind of obscure. And then in adulthood, most people I tried to get interested in it would scoff at it that it's way too difficult to put any time into. I actually have downloaded a mod that I learned about on the Kid Chameleon wiki.. can't remember what it was called since it was a couple years since I played it, but I absolutely love hacked/modded games, especially from the Sega Genesis! It brings a lot of fresh ideas to classic content! Have you been a fan of it since it was released or did you come across Kid Chameleon later on?

I wasn't even born when the game came out XD I only first played it when my grandma bought the Sega Smash Pack 2 out of the bargain bin in 2004, and it is still the version I use for my speedruns and highscores to this day. Myself being even younger than you, I'm sure you can imagine it would be even more difficult to get people my age interested. Anyway, whatever mod it was you downloaded, you should definitely at least try Heady Metal's Revenge, the mod featured in this video. In my opinion, I think the levels are better designed than the original's... quite an impressive feat considering how addictive the first one was.

Yeah, I was almost 4 when Kid Chameleon came out, so it's been a part of my life for a long time. And honestly it's pretty awesome to see younger gamers showing interest for good ol' KC! Yeah, that's true, unfortunately. :/ I can imagine it'd be harder to get others your age interested if very few people my age were into it. Wish it was easier, but if anything it's their loss! I've also played the Sega Smash Pack version on the PC. Glad you got the opportunity to play and appreciate this awesome game! I'll definitely give it a try! From what I've seen, it looks pretty amazing. I've always wanted a KC sequel with new level themes and transformations and mods are the next best thing! Speaking of which, what were your favorite helmets and level themes from the original game?

Favorite helmet is definitely Skycutter due to how nice the control feels if you're able to overcome his tricky handling. But my favorite theme would be Sky even though they're built nearly exclusively around Cyclone. Casually, I just really loved flying around these and exploring all the disconnected areas and floating islands -- very fun to explore.

Just rewatching this and had a idea have you ever thought about doing a tier list for all the levels in the original kid chameleon that would be really interesting to watch

I'd have to say that I think HMR is better than the original KC. A bold statement I know, but I find myself not even playing the original anymore but playing HMR and TFM daily. One of the things that I never understood about the original was that 90% of the time, it never utilized the blocks for their intended purposes. Random cannon blocks revealed just to blast a useless random rock block, or the mushroom blocks are an even better example of this.

I take back what I said as far as Final Marathon. HMR is definitely better, but TFM is really pissing me off. Too much depending on cannon blocks, too many levels depend on luck instead of actual skill, the game crashes on so many levels, too many nerve-wracking elsewheres with those stupid kaizo blocks....it started out good, but the game really got me angry in the later levels. To get so far in a level and get taken out by kaizo blocks really gets to me. Tower of Babel sucks. Let's put no helmets anywhere, and make it so when you fall, you can't get back up...HMR is a way better game. At least there weren't so many cheap tricks and beating a level didn't depend on luck rather than skill.

Super fair assessment on kc3. Hmr took me about 3 years to create while kc 3 took a year. The main differences were the level editors that were used for both projects. Also I was a single man during the creation of hmr so i had so much time to mess around. Kc3 was created after 3 kids and while working on the job. Had my work set up and my kc3 level creating laptop in the side. I used a copy and paste system to create the levels from existing levels from both kc and hmr files. I wish I could go back to update kc3 but I've lost access to my old Gmail that had important level making files. Since then life has become more busy as my family has grown and my responsibilitie have multiplied. But it brings me satisfaction that these projects are still being played. I'm honored.

hey man, love your Kid Chameleon videos. Was wondering if you could do a video on how to access teleports throughout Heady Metals Revenge. There are 2 levels in particular that have me stumped....one is Agony Hike: there is a small triangular room with I think 2 teleports and I can't figure out how to get in for the life of me. The other one is the top level teleport in an early desert elsewhere themed level accessed by Forgotten Citadels, where you need a bezerker or need to hit hidden cannon blocks a certain way to access it. There are 3 teleports here....one goes to Concrete Madness, one goes to Isle of Misfits, and the third? Can't figure it out. I brought cyclone and was psyched because i thought i could just fly. around the rock blocks...but nope....no way around them...any advice?

On Heady Metal’s Revenge, when you use your diamonds with the Knight, the extra bars of life you get when you use 50 diamonds and get a continue, I can’t believe they don’t carry over to the next character, I expected you to have 5 bars with micromax!

The extra hit points can carry over to other helmets, but once you die, you'll lose them all

It's a rom hack of the original game. I'm the creator of the hack. I lost access to my old RU-vid page. But yeah I started this back in 2014 and finished officially 2017. I also created another hack as well. Kc3. But yeah good times.

Didn't know about that 10k block at 12:56 or the secret passageway around 45:00. 58:50: oops Didn't know about the secret path at 1:19:50, and micromax is weird as hell. 1:31:00 and other deaths on that level: =| The part around 2:02:00 is new to me. Boomerang torture is a deceptively hard level. The teleporter you saw at 2:32:00 was really, really hard to figure out when I did the elsewhere but it is actually quite simple. Skycutter appears to be nearly useless in this level though. 2:40:40 What I said was that if you try to get that telepad with Skycutter you die. 2:58:00 Winslinator, please be nice to the aliens. 3:01:15 is new to me. 3:03:00 Wow... that was really easy with juggernaut -.- 3:05:00 TIL that slimes have better behavior on hills than basically every other enemy. 3:22:30 Wait, drios made getting to that elsewhere way easier. Dang. 3:28:45 You played the whole level without realizing it was the old Mars' Retaliation? 3:33:00 is a new juggernaut for me. 3:49:00 To be fair, the source of the drip is technically the enemy loaded into the level. 3:56:00 Did not know about that Mars' Retaliation -> Elsewhere 25 exit. The sequence leading up to the death at 4:08:20 was fantastic. 4:13:55 Run Kid Run and Thieves' Maze can't be taken in the same run. Probably a good thing seeing how brutally difficult both are. 4:26:10 Actually, I only found one exit and I'm pretty sure it's the only one. I looked pretty hard. 4:58:20 Wait, there's a rising platform there? 5:03:35 WTF? I'm more of a high score runner than a speedrunner, so 1,000,000 points is the score to beat I guess.

Woah I haven't gotten a comment this detailed in FOREVER, glad to see you enjoyed it so much! Thank you for mentioning the Attack on Mars and Thieves' Maze deaths, they were too good :D I was actually surprised you learned some new stuff from me, though you've probably spent more time analyzing this project. Time to update the maps too! I know Drios made a map of the game a little while back but with the new levels added and some switched around in the newest versions who knows what may be different at this point. Looking forward to a potential highscore run from you, but correct me if I'm wrong about this: Drios has telepads that take you back to previous levels, sometimes they go before earlier flags. If you were to continually do that cycle (plus infinite lives glitch) 9,999,999 should be possible

Well, I'd hardly expect to know everything about this project. I started making an updated map but I'm having trouble placing everything in stage 4, and I can't find Drios' old map for some reason. I also can't find where the new Elsewhere 33 fits into everything. It should be around the start of stage 3 but I can't find any new teleporters. The only telepad that I know of that goes backwards is the Weathered Rise -> Agony Hike one, and I wouldn't think that taking that one in a high score run would be allowed. There could be another one I'm forgetting but I don't think there is.

Do you know if in this game you can get the juggernaut in a level with the crab enemies? Always wondered if the skull blasts worked on them. Figured you'd be the dude to ask. Or the berserker? Can you ram them off screen?

The crabs take damage from skull blasts exactly like they do from Maniaxe, but with Berzerker the behavior is a bit unexpected. Instead of being thrown off-screen, crabs will be knocked back a good distance horizontally when you ram them. It's the only enemy which responds to berzekrer that way.

Download lunarips. Then Download the patch from romhacking.net afterward open the lunar app and apply the patch to a kc rom.

There's a set of shooter blocks that need to be triggered. I think if you have eyeclops and beam everywhere you'll find them. Been a long time

Yeah that's a funny glitch, any drills that are right next to the left level margin will not damage you. The margin probably cancels the drill's hitbox or something.
