What I like about Tuma is how.... realistic he is. Keep in mind, he is still a Glatorian, and Glatorian are the closest thing we have to humans in Bionicle. So while it'd be neat to have a super tall bad guy built like Takanuva (or the "Toa Mata Nui" set) twice as tall as the rest of the cast, I actually like that Tuma's only a couple heads taller than most of 2009's canister line, and mostly bulkier in the torso. He just feels like another guy, albeit an exceptionally strong one in his own weight class. The second health bar certainly helps to make the case that he's the single toughest specimen on the planet.
Tuma is an underrated character - and I blame Metus for Tuma's downward spiral into meme-material. He could have been the perfect Mata Nui nemesis. Two people, both trying to protect their people, fighting for the soul of Bara Magna. Conqueror versus Uniter. Instead we got a lot of screentime for Metus, a guy with no motive, no power, and less direct ties to the deep-rooted problems of Bara Magnan society. Tuma is a cool set, but while stickers may seem to be a good way to add detail, they have a tendency to detatch over time, which is not that pretty.
I can appreciate receiving a new helmet for a titan during this period of BIONICLE's life, usually when most other "box-sized" sets would feature a non-exclusive helmet or mask this year. I'm also very attracted to this color scheme, it's not everyday a primarily black color scheme is complimented with lime. Where this set falls a bit short for me is the weapon. I wish they could've introduced a new, larger variation of the Skrall blade piece. Oh, well.
I never got a chance to get makuta officially younger. I had some of his pieces but no instructions or internet. When tuma came out I thought he was a bad ass. I loved this set
Tuma is the Titan that suffered most from the idea of "Every set needs a projectile weapon" He's a great set, but that scrawny launcher just looks lame on him. I get he needed it for the game they designed the sets with, but I'd have preferred if he also had something like his green shield from the movie or even just a dagger instead.
Such an awesome set! I have this memory as a kid. 8 years old. We went to the toys R us to pickup this set. I was so stoked because the titan sets were my favorite as a kid. I went to the isle and got the set, looked back and my parents were gone. Looking back, I think they were picking out things for my baby brother. When I finally found my mom, I got mad at her and I couldn't get the set anymore. Sad day but a valuable lesson was learned.
I never had this set, although I do remember seeing it in a bookstore during that year. On his shoulders, the Mantax feet in lime green are exclusive, and he is the only other set to have spiked Inika feet in that color apart from their origin appearance in Gresh (8980). The Mahri Matoran blades in lime green were also only ever used in Tarduk (8974), this set, and the Baranus V7 (8994), before being phased out. Tuma was also the first set to have the clenched hands in lime green, though I only obtained them as part of Vastus (8986) at the end of 2009. They would make one more appearance in Bionicle in 2010, and in one set from "Hero Factory" as well, before they were retired. This is a similar story for the redesigned double socket joints in dark stone gray. This was also the final Bionicle set to have the Rahkshi legs in black, though they did appear in one other set from "Hero Factory" in 2010. The blade on his weapon in black also appeared in the Cendox V1 (8992), and in a Hero Factory set (7162) the following year. Possibly the most surprising element in this set is the old style of hand socket in dark stone, which also came in the Thornatus V9 (8995), and continued to be in use in other themes until 2011, with its final appearance being in a Ninjago set (2521) in June of that year.
Wish you showed a little more on the articulation of the legs. I'm specifically curious about the double joints on the butt 2:55. It gives the impression of lowkey ingenious design, but can't really tell without seeing it move.
I got this set back in 09' and as a kid, I was so impressed by how the legs were designed. The double joints near the hip were so sturdy, along with the ones in the ankles. Also looks really cool how the legs really look like a guy who has huge hamstrings with those curved technic pieces. If maxilos from 07' had the same type of upper leg design, it would be hands down my favorite ever haha
I think I personally would have liked a more intricate weapon since compared to the weapons of the regular Glatorian, it feels like a fairly basic brute sword of some kind as opposed to Tarix’s water blades, Gresh’s shield/dual blades, Malum’s claws, regular Skrall’s launcher blade, etc. I know Stronius and Vorox have fairly simple weapons too, but they kinda made up for it with their additional features like Stronius with his new armor pieces and Vorox with the tail. That’s just my opinion tho, I otherwise enjoyed the main body’s design a lot like you did
I bought this set at a k-mart when I was a kid. The power went out for like 5 minutes and I had a panic attack that I wouldn't be able to take it to the checkout lane.
Ah, it’s Tuma, the one whom our Great Spirit Mata Nui beat the crap out of! I have to replace most of my ball joints with the ones pre-2006 And wow, I just realized that you share the same surname as the famed composer Antonin Dvorak!
Just wondering, are you going to continue mata nui mondays with 2015/2016 g2 Bionicle sets? I think it would be really cool. there are some bangers in there.
My only complain about this set is probably the thornax launcher, it's looks so basic when tuma hold it, kinda wish they make it like in toa mata nui set like a cross bow but in bionicle style, even with my own complain, i can't forget how happy i was when got it and how fascinating it was when i finish building it, absolutely a stunning set
Wild to me how this set I had as a kid and wasn’t crazy about was so well scored while the one I always wanted but never got, gadunka, he was pretty harsh on. Different tastes I guess
He is so cool, he has to be one of the coolest titan sets I tough he was a good guy at first cause I didn’t know the story lol , would you say he’s as good as Brutaka or close to me he’s close.
My main gripe with tumas back flag peacock feather thing is how low it is, I wish it was more higher up so it could pop out more instead of his back covering up a decent portion of the back flag peacock thing

Tuma is very dangerous. Just not to a Barrera or Mata Nui. Which doesn't help that Barrera will kill anyone with weapons. And all Skrall have weapons and rather die then let them go. And Mata Nui got some training by Akar. Who is one of those veteran champion fighters, those who can defeat a skrall. And Mata Nui noticed that weak spot on Tuma, and that he isn't as fast as the average Skrall (he still is fast, just not as fast.) And took advantage of that. And after Tuma got defeated, he was banned from the Skrall. The last leader class skrall in all of the world, and they lost there leader due to honor before reason (all the others are dead.). All of this because he didn't talk about the Barrera problem to the other tribes. He still is dangerous. It is just he had a bad week.

So apparently this guy was used as a drone in some Marvel thing. Instead of, you know. Any purposely generic characters. Like the Vahki. Or the Rahkshi. Or even just a generic Skrall.
