You know. When I lived in Texas and learned about this battle in my history class, It made me love the idea of a fortress under seige. I'd build lego forts surrounded by bad guys and had the good guys shooting from the tops of the walls or through windows. Honestly, seeing the battle that really sparked my interest in building battle scenes in lego actually animated makes me feel somewhat nostalgic. Great job man!

The "Americans" were Mexicans. Mexico invited immigrants in to help settle the vast territory of Texas and keep the marauding native tribes in check. There were immigrants from all over Europe as well as the United States. To settle there, you were required to become a Mexican citizen, learn Spanish and convert to Catholicism. The rebellion started when President Antonio Lopes de Santa Anna used the military to remove the Mexican Constitution of 1824 and dissolve the Legislature thereby establishing himself as a dictator. (Julius Caesar attempted to do that in Rome, Charles I tried that in England, Louis the XVI tried that in France, Nicholas II tried that in Russia). It's surprising Santa Anna didn't suffer the same fate. The army was then dispatched to disarm the citizenry. In the town of Gonzales, General Cos arrived with his troops to take a cannon that belonged to the people. 167 men defeated him and his troops, and the revolution had begun. These were Mexicans resisting a tyrannical government. These were not Americans stealing land from Mexico. Incidentally, a large percentage of the Mexicans involved in the Revolution were native Mexicans. (look up Juan Seguin). If you wish to split hairs about who the land belonged to, then my native Comanche ancestors would like a word with you. Spain stole it from them and other native tribes, Mexico took it from Spain, and the Texians kept it for themselves and later joined up with the United States.
@rebeccahicks2392
@rebeccahicks2392 5 месяцев назад
@@saps1850 They were anglo rebels who, among other things, wanted to keep slavery after Mexico abolished it. Yep, basically a prelude of the Civil War if the South had won. They did steal land from Mexico, they just weren't part of the USA yet. And yes, the land was originally stolen from Indigenous Americans. But bear in mind that in general the Spanish allowed Indigenous peoples to stay, while the USA herded them onto reservations far from home.

Ballad of the Alamo: By Marty Robbins: In the southern part of Texas In the town of San Antone There’s a fortress all in ruins that the weeds have overgrown You may look in vain for crosses and you’ll never see a-one but sometimes between the setting and the rising of the sun You can hear a ghostly bugle As the men go marching by You can hear them as they answer To that roll call in the sky Colonel Travis Davy Crockett and a hundred eighty more Captain Dickinson Jim Bowie Present and accounted for Back in 1836 Houston said to Travis “Get some volunteers and go Fortify The Alamo” Well the men came from Texas And from ol’ Tennessee And they joined up with Travis Just to fight for the right to be free Indian scouts with squirrel guns Men with muzzle loaders Stood together heel and toe To defend The Alamo “You may ne’er see your loved ones” Travis told them that day “Those who want to can leave now Those who fight to the death let ‘em stay” In the sand he drew a line with his army Sabre Out of a hundred eighty five Not a soldier crossed the line With his banners a-dancin’ In the dawns golden light Santa Anna came prancin’ On a horse that was black as the night Sent an officer to tell Travis to surrender Travis answered with a shell And a rousin’ rebel yell Santa Anna turned scarlet “Play deguello!” He roared “I will show them no quarter Everyone will be put to the sword” One hundred and eighty five Holdin’ back five thousand Five days Six days Eight days Ten Travis held and held again Then he sent for replacements For his wounded and lame But the troops that were comin’ Never came Never came Never came Twice he charged and blew recall On the fatal third time Santa Anna breached the wall And he killed them one and all Now the bugles are silent And there’s rust on each sword And the small band of soldiers…. Lie asleep in the arms of the Lord In the southern part of Texas Near the town of San Antone Like a statue on his pinto Rides a cowboy all alone And he sees the cattle Grazin’ where a century before Santa Anna’s guns were blazing and the cannons used to roar And his eyes turned sorta misty And his heart begins to glow And he takes his hat of slowly ….to the men of Alamo ………. Disturbing fact: the reason texas revolted against mexico is because mexico aboloshed slavery and texas wasnt happy wit that
@CaptainFritz28
@CaptainFritz28 Год назад
That was a part of the constitution of 1824. The Texas revolution was not originally meant to be a revolution, but was originally meant to be a return to that constitution. In the beginning of the video, did you notice the flag on the Alamo? It had "1824" across it. That was what they were fighting for, only later did they decide on Independence because of the centralization of power under Santa Anna, atrocities like the Alamo and Goliad, and the fact that the Mexicans were inhibiting religious freedom. Slavery was a tiny part, but not the main reason.

It is true that sometimes the gunpowder used by the Mexican army was not of the best quality, but there is no evidence that their grenades were primed and fired again by the filibusters. And the line on the ground drawn by Travis' sword is also a myth.

Did they really take the cannon balls and fire them back? American history nerds, help a Canadian brother out!

Did you notice that the Lego Texian only retrieved one of the two shots? Re-use of solid iron shot was not unheard of but certain conditions had to be met to make it practical: - limited or no supply of fresh shot - means to recover the heavy projectiles - the spent shot must not be noticeably damaged or deformed - the caliber of the shot must be compatible with the cannons they're intended to be re-used in

It is funny, because many Texans wore leather and pellets bounced off of them due to the Mexicans not using enough gunpowder.

@@Elitecommando501 well I didnt mean it saved all of them, but at a range it did actually work. Of course they eventually got overrun as the Mexicans got closer. It just makes sense, the Mexicans put a lot less powder in, so it had less penetration and muzzle velocity. I'm not tryna start a debate, if you dont wanna believe me just believe what you will I guess.

@@devint2310 Ah I see. It makes sense if it saved them from a distance. Close quarters on the other hand would have been lethal. A huge part of the battle was in close range
