For the wall at 5:30 being weak, you could alternate the position and distance of the side-studded bricks from one to two stud, at least for one of the layers, since the tiles can slide across and it doesn't matter if they're held at one or the other end!

@@BevinsBricksWorld oh! I now see what you mean. It wouldn't be possible to space and rotate them with my proposal, whereas yours adds a lot more freedom of movement to the tiles! The 3D model didn't allow for such staggering and I overlooked it. I'll test some more tomorrow, I'm having fun trying to find a sturdy way to build this, it just looks too good!

Great video, thanks a bunch. This jumper tile method is great. I'm curious, wouldn't you be able to do the same thing with 1x1 plates and 1x2 jumper tiles to get a wall that was only brick wide? Thanks!!
@ShiriDoriHacohen
@ShiriDoriHacohen 4 года назад
@@BevinsBricksWorld Yes! I realized in the middle of the night that the regular 1x1 plate won't work exactly because it doesn't have that hole, so you won't be able to center the jumper plate in it easily, it that correct? The round plate was exactly what I thought about as well. I'll have to go play with it and see! Also I was inspired by your video and stumbled on another technique that could create really cool textures (also at a high brick count) - the bottom/back of the Ship in the Bottle has it. They use the headlight bricks and plates in between at 90 degree rotations, to create a smooth look with different sizes. In that set they are all clear, but I'm looking to create a "stone wall" effect that exists in a real building I'm modeling, and I have a hunch that mixing in different colors grays (old, new, plus dark gray) and also tan in that setup would look amazing!!

Some great advice, but I hear you with the mounting part count on some of those techniques, equally the stability can be a real issue. Agree that plain bricks with a sprinkling of masonry bricks is usually the way to go. Loved the jumper plate version - new to me - but I can see how that would eat parts quickly 😱
@MrRusty-fm4gb
@MrRusty-fm4gb 2 года назад
Hey Bevin, I just stumbled upon a wall technique this morning that I have not seen on anyones channel that you might find interesting. I don’t know how well it works for new bricks but it looks pretty cool with older bricks. I was stacking a bunch of white 1x1 wide bricks(the smallest bricks) on ontop of a 1x20 long brick in a row with 1x2bricks after every 3 or 4, and then put another 1x20 long brick ontop of those. All of the 1x1 bricks were accidentally tilted slightly to one side and it gave a sort of vent fin effect. The white ones I’m using are very old, probably from the late 70s to the early/mid 90s. I was cleaning them with alcohol pads to see if I could get about 35years worth of grime, dirt, marker ink, aged yellowing, etc off. I might try and make a little short video explaining it but I think you shouldn’t have any trouble understanding what I’m talking about. And I don’t think the idea would look good with knew bricks since they’re not worn down or scuffed up like the older bricks. And it would only work with 1x1 bricks since you can slightly rotate them a hair to 1 side when stacked next to eachother in a row.
