I'm loving the way the colour scheme flows through the cab unit, but the car is a let down. Agree with you Jang on the need for a common coupling system. Lego have so many protocols that surely a standardised fifth wheel design and placement is possible.

Personally, I like the fact they did not include more cars in the set. I like that you are able to buy Car Transporter and they do not shovel in 5 cars, helicopter and crook stealing pizza. I do wish they add cheap $5-$10 sets with just cars. Same applies for all City stuff. Just road plates in one set, simplified versions of creator buildings - one building per set, no throwaway sidebuilds. And OMG same for trains would be awesome

Oh god that reminds me of 6335 so much! had it as a kid, probably my all time favorite set. came with 3 cars, much simpler builds granted, but it felt more complete. I also got the 42098 technic set that only had 1 car. much more complex build, being technic and all but the color scheme really helped mask the "emptiness" of the transporter

Or perhaps they could include a few extra bits? I bought the big yellow actual Lego truck 3321 a while ago, and it only took me a dozen or two pieces to convert it from that huge cab to a European cab. Maybe they could add just a few extras do everyone could make changes like that.

I love the good old beefy american long nose big rigs! To me they look better and give a more truck like feel for some reason... that's why most my custom big rigs seem to be big fat american styled long noses lol.

I never knew this set existed, it has nice aesthetics but it's a little too simple and could have been cleaned up a little for an extra 5 or 10 dollars

Remember that this set is 5+, so it HAS to be simple. That said, I think a different colour scheme would have been better.

That thing is wretched. Actual bricks with exposed studs for the doors? A ball joint hitch? A gigantic and awkward loading ramp? The designer for this set clearly phoned it in. For a proper car transporter, please see set #60060.

I agree with your points except for the weird hate on the ball hitch. I know trucks of this sort don't use a ball hitch, but it's still a toy and not super realistic. I would take a standardized ball hitch system for all Lego tractor trucks like this than their specialized hitch systems for specific sets making every trailer and truck only compatible with what set it came in.

I actually like that they left room to put your own cars and kept the cost of the set down. I agree, if this is your very first set as a kid one car is kind of disappointing, but if it's at least your second city set, odds are you have another car.

fully agree with your points: too simple design; color scheme; the connector; besides they could not even spare 2 white clips for the cab unit. For me, the set is an example of „made without love and passion“

I agree. Even with just the addition of more cars and without minifigs. If they wanted to build a truck that could only move one car and a second minfig for the car's driver, they could have just made a tow truck. This set looks unfinished.

Agree, i wish it came with two cars. To be fair i am glad that they have that little £8 blue supra looking car this year too because then its a cheap way for a kid interested in THIS set to get another car without having to get a big expensive set. Honestly the whole tow hitch thing is SOOOOO frustrating for lego trucks because there is NO REASON why they cannot standardise 😅❤

I agree with all of JANG's objective arguments. Most of all, this set definitely needed another car. Subjectively, I personally love the color scheme and the muscle car is really cool looking to me. One thing I find wierd is the fact that they offset the truck driver, thereby increasing the space beside him, yet they strangely omitted the coffee cup! What the heck, Lego!

City seems to have gotten more unrealistic in my opinion and added more play features beyond the bricks themselves, but still miss how good some of the older sets looked.

Elliot Faux the 911 (the current one) tires are a little too wide, they rub but it sort of fits width wise. The F40 can only just barely fit on the bottom deck. Most speed champions cars are too long to fit two on top, and the Senna is too long to even fit on the bottom. So they sort of work, but not well. The blue sports car works perfectly, as do several other city theme cars that I have.

Not just you. In fact, Lego in general, across all sets went downhill. Even the quality of their pieces is worse. Especially depending on color. I have pieces more than 40 years old which have stood the test of time. Meanwhile I have gold, brown, and the new gray colors which are less than a year or only a few years old which have broken just from trying to remove them from other pieces using my blunt fingernails. When I was a kid I had things fall off shelves more than a meter (3.4 feet) off the ground and hit hard floors and pieces never broke. Now I have things which have been dropped or fallen from lesser heights and pieces break on impact. I've stepped on pieces which felt like they broke my whole foot because the pain was so bad but the pieces were fine, now I've found pieces breaking under my feet if I happen to drop one and step on it. Sure, I'm an adult and heavier now, but I can step on decades old pieces, which have also been stepped on for decades and never broke, but also have these new pieces only years old breaking under the slightest pressure.

Yup, lego is going down to the rubbish! So disappointing, I remember the good old days when lego was great! On another note, yup ever since lego city moved to 5+, everything looks ugly and not complete! I'm horrendously disappointed!

Thank you for another thorough review :). The aesthetics of this city-line is just extremely dull. And even 5-year olds can see that, so, a "5+" or "6+" label is no excuse to strip these sets of any charm or coolness.

Agreed, the original version and concept of this idea was much better, I believe it was a set that came out in 2014 for city. That one looked so much better and complete! I actually still have the box for it.

I like the colors of it,but I wish it had smoke stack pipes behind the cab of the truck and maybe a sleeper cab too. But yeah,it should've come with a 2nd car at the very least if not 3 cars.

This seems like a lego set made in the 1980s. 2012-(2014?) lego city transporter set era was pretty good. It looked more realistic and detailed that this here...

I'm personally fine with the play value in terms of the car in this set. I think you only need one car for the trailer to use the play features and such. Just my personal opinion.

I like it and I will definitely buy it. In December, I purchased the Racing Cars set 60256. They should fit in neatly. Plus there is now also the Sports Car set 60285 out. Costs only 9 Quids here in the UK.

They need to go back to the 90s style of trailer hitch: a 2x4 plate with a ball hitch at the bottom, into which a ball/axle piece connects to plug into the truck.

I think that this idee is good, but lego makes very simple sets for city. And yes if you are a kid then it is to build. But I personaly think that these new sets look more ugly. Take the police sets for example. 3 or more years ago lego released city sets that looked great. You could easaly put them in your city. Now you have big cars that exist out of 20-30 big pieces. And as a kid i didn't realy care about big magnets or big things that shoot. I wanted a car that I reconise and I can play with. If lego makes this sets $10 more expensive and fixes thing like the back of the truck with extra pieces, would I buy it. But this doesn't looks good.

Thanks for the confirmation. This looked cheap even in the glamour shots. I would like a nice Speed Champions transporter to fit all the proper 6-wide cars they built for the first several years of the line before they randomly made them wider so they no longer fit properly on city streets (and honestly are no better-looking).

One big point is really missing in this short review: Its 10 studs wide (because of the technic beams in the rear). This is too wide even for old baseplates!

I totally completely agree w the review on this it needs another car and the across Lego build components for certain things like connections between tractor trailers is a very valid point. I'd pay the extra ten for another car and mini figure.

DviantSith sort of but not super well is the quick answer. Most of them fit width wise, except the current white 911, it’s tires rub the sides. They’re pretty well all too long to fit both sets of wheels on the chocks, and most won’t fit two together on the top deck, and some (the Senna for example) are too long to even fit on the bottom deck.

The original version of this concept was much better and finished off. It was a set in 2014 if I remembered correctly, it was the yellow car transporter truck. I actually have the set too even. It was so clean and felt complete, price was a little high though, but still, I'd rather that one then this new remade rubbish that doesnt look complete!

Sort of, some of them kinda fit. Some not so much. In most cases that I’ve tried the problem is more with the length than the width, although there are some that are a little wider (like the white 911) where the wheels and tires rub the sides of the trailer.

From the opening shots, the “Auto Haul” wording looked sooo much like “Jake Haul” or “Jake’s Haul.” I thought LEGO was trying so incredibly (and out-datedly) hard to appeal to younger audiences.

The truck seems WAY too simplified, missing rear wheels and even the transporter itself is missing a few wheels. The ramp's design is also very poor. I bought this at a discount for $20, otherwise there's no way I would have paid $30 for this. I get that this is a +5 set but, there aren't that many car transporters lately. Could have made this into a +6 or +7 set, with a bit more details and charge $40 like Jang suggested.

You should consider comparing this set to set 31113 Lego Creator Race Car Transporter. It's a 3 in 1 creator set, and I think you'll find that the race car transporter is better in many ways. It's a truck and trailer with two (!!) race cars. The piece count is similar (328) and the price is better ($20). The only downside for the Creator set is that it has zero minifigs.

Its ridiculous how expensive city sets are nowadays. They have no proper builds, no substance and theyre like £150. I remember buying the 2010 townhouse for £30 and the new (arguably worse) one is £45. The 2009 mobile police lorry was £40 and the most recent one in 2017 was the same price but was inferior in pretty much every way

It's ironic that Lego, a company that specializes in the production of standardized modular toy bricks, does not design standardized modular toy trucks... honestly such a shame :\
