I think what wouldve helped a lot is having more obstacles. Even if they come unattached to the baseplate, it would mean you had a bunch of options to switch out, or put in a different context. I really like the feel of this set but it feels more like a couple obstacles in a street than a proper skate park

Where are the half pipe pieces from the 2000s? Nice concept to use the road plate as the base of the skate park, but better options were staring them in the face.

I think the set would feel much more complete if they just swapped the printed white lines on the road for non-printed ones. At the moment it looks as though the ramps and obstacles have been placed in the middle of a street, and it doesn't really feel like a 'skate park'.

I feel like Star Wars and City have done a role reversal this year, with Star Wars becoming more affordable and City more expensive. Obviously part of that is due to the road plates though.

Wow $40 for that is a LOT! And that's without state tax. Especially compared to £25 in the UK. And even ignoring that, it's more expensive than far larger and denser sets like the Speed Champions Jaguar set. That's crazy. The set itself is pretty lacking and confusing in places.

The road plate really really doesn't make sense here, like the skate facilities in the middle of it loses any value it might have had. As Jang says, the "value of stuff" is simply not close to it's price

This is why my town incorporates elements of City, Classic Town AND Friends. I've noticed that Lego Friends tends to make sets of things that SHOULD be seen in City, but aren't (Pools, Malls, Schools And Restaurants). They are also way more detailed inside and out compared to any City equivalent. The skate park from 2015 is now a good example. More complex and detailed builds, and a "functional" vending machine.

Huh, I never even thought of that. That might be a good idea if I ever want to build a city someday. I don't buy many City sets in general, I've never bought a Friends set, and I either wasn't alive or wasn't collecting Lego during the time of Classic Town. It makes me wonder why City hasn't explored many of these topics that you've mentioned. I do believe that City has done a few restaurants before, but as you said, they didn't have much more space or detail. Because I don't collect Friends sets, I don't know much about the theme, but I have seen some of the builds, and, at least for the buildings, they seem more complete and detailed.

This is like an advertisement to let us know we may get an actual Lego skatepark in a couple years. Really looking forward to it if they do. This is like 25% of what that skatepark should be, at 150% of the price.

Thanks for the good review. It's a nice set but indeed quite pricey. One thing about leaving stuff out: the flagpoles are essential to pop out the tiles in the road plates(see instructions). So expect every road plates set to have flags ;-). I don't hate the roadplates but my biggest problem with them is that they are shiny.

The price is kind of high, but I still like the set. My plan is to get another set used and combine the pieces to make a bigger skate park. I'll then join the skate park with the roller coaster set. Great video and honest review

Since they want to introduce the new streets i would have appreaciated a set of tiles to cover the spots once the obstacles are removed so you can intigrate that part into your city as a road, not only as a park. With 42116 in mind i would also not give the SUV 10 Dollars, but again, i don´t have your knowledge of LEGO. Thank you for the "insane" amount of Reviews lately, it really helps in the current situation. Stay safe :)

Regarding there is a road plate with lines and all these temporary Vita Rush fencing, this does not really seem to be a skate park but more a temporary setup for an event. As a result, the main build only plays a minor role for the set as a whole. To me it's mainly a pack with some nice minifigs, a car, and some medium useful arch and road parts as a bonus. If it would have been a much more detailed permanent skate part to go with a city park without the car it would have been more interesting to me. (I might still get this, though, for the figs and the car, regarding the discounted € price will not be anywhere as high as the US price, as it seems.)

From the new town sets, this is the most fun looking. Sure, it's a bit overpriced but you will be able to get it at $30. I like the colors and the playability. As you said, the truck is useless and a second quarter pipe would have been perfect. Nonetheless a cute set for kids to play with.

What bothers me is the price was unofficially announced at $30, which I was happy with and then for no reason they jacked $10 onto the price. The same with the new house set. Even at 20% off it's still not great. Even $35 I would have been okay with. All the other unofficial prices were spot on.

I was going to rip this set pretty heavily before JANG calmed things down and broke down his objective thoughts on the value. This set is definately still waaaay overpriced, but that's not my biggest gripe now. The idea that they couldn't have offered A SINGLE FREAKING piece of alternate head gear is ludicrous considering how well they've been doing with that, lately. In one video, JANG said that they can't be expected to do it all the time, but I disagree. They could easily do that and I don't think it's asking too much.

Reasoning would be probably be the fact that this is something new that kids would want as its something brand new and will likely be something that kids pick up. Old topics like police chases and fire fightings have lower prices as those have already had their chance to be famous.

They probably put the useless flags in so there is a part to poke through the road plate holes to get the tiles out.

I think the large price increase is due to the road plate. It most likely costs more to create compared to a thin plastic baseplate. Hopefully the price balances out soon
