I absolutely loved it as a kid and I still say it's a great game. The campaign's really fun and as a massive Doctor Who and Portal fan it's so incredible to see these franchises get genuine love. Seeing Glados talk to Hal-9000 is something that can't be replicated and to hear Peter Capaldis 12th Doctor interact with Troy Bakers batman is so insane to me. The problem was too many sets and themes that no one asked for in the second year. What kid was going to say "mommy mommy can I get the Knight Rider set?? Or the A-Team pack?? I really really wanna explore the gremlins world!!" There were too many sets in general with uninteresting worlds. What's cool about exploring the world from ateam? Or mission impossible? Or gremlins? There were characters that only did one or two things, like Bad Cop from the Lego movie or Bane from batman or Bart Simpson. Also, not every character needed a vehicle. If they just sold minifigures by themselves without the vehicles it could've been a lot cheaper. When the game comes with the batmobile there's no point using any other car, unless you really really wanna dive around in Homers car.
Licensing that, especially if they sell a complete game at a standard retail game price, would be an absolute nightmare. But it would be cool if it happened
@@themariobroschannel8763don’t most Lego games require you to unlock characters or like buy them using in-game currency or something? Because I think a system like that could work. But if everything is unlocked for free right from the start, then the parts that require an ability that only certain characters have could all be beaten immediately. I think there would have to be some type of system where you unlock and/or buy all the different characters, vehicles, gadgets, and story pack levels.
@MiloMurphysLaw Easily solution. Make only the 3 characters in the starter pack available from the start. Then make you go in to each world and then you can unlock the characters.
The Portal franchise in Lego Dimensions actually had all the original voice actors return with new lines. Ellen McLain as GLaDOS, Stephen Merchant as Wheatley, J. K. Simmons as Cave Johnson, Nolan North as the personality cores. And of course, Chris Pratt as Chell.
As a former LEGO collector, I thoroughly enjoyed playing LEGO Dimensions at my neighbors house solely for the building aspect alone. And I found it insane how they managed to design minuscule versions of sets they’ve already made, i.e. the Ninjago vehicles (imma huge Ninjago fan)
I feel like Lego Dimensions didn't need to be solely a Toys To Life game, and instead they could have just made normal Lego sets that were based around the game and accompanied it, but also had the option to interact with the game if you wanted it to.
Yeah, it could’ve been like Amiibo. It would’ve been so cool if it was a normal Lego game, where all (or at least most) of the characters can be unlocked with in-game currency. So, you can play the whole game without needing to buy any physical Lego sets. But if you do buy the sets and place them on the game pad, then it allows you to unlock stuff or whatever, like Amiibo.
Kinda wish Scott enjoyed this game more cuz I really loved seeing the crossover potential, but yeah it definitely has some design flaws with the Portal system
Personally, I never really had much of a problem with the portal thing. But I do think that the game would’ve been better if it wasn’t a toys-to-life game.
It's because he played on the Wii U version of Lego Dimensions which was absolutely notorious for never working. Dimensions did have a lot more issues with crashing later in the lifespan when it was still receiving patches and packs to buy but nothing compared to the near unplayable state that was the Wii U version. I owned it on Xbox 360 and later PS4. I did not experience any issues with the toy pad on either console and the game ran fine with the occasional crash in some levels.
It would be neat if they can release this someday as a complete full dlc game with none of the lego minifigs required. Highly unlikely but it would still be nice. As a huge Doctor Who fan its a bit sad that by default Lego Dimensions is the best Doctor Who game period.
Same I would love if they released it on steam with the disney infinity treatment. All of the things unlocked automatically without having to purchase stuff online or in stores
Ah yes, LEGO Dimensions, one of the greatest crossover games of all time. I’ll take what I said to my grave, since I, like many others, think that this was one of the best toys to life games, along with Skylanders, to ever enter mainstream gaming.
Bro I was obsessed with this game when it first game out. I asked my granddad I wanted a new Wii U game and a Lego Set for Christmas. So he said, “Fuck it!” and got me Lego Dimensions. Well played, Grandad. Kill two birds with one disappointment. Edit: and by “obsessed” I mean drop it in two months because I was 11 and had the attention span of a pool noodls
@@creativecutieprincessd I should’ve been more specific and told him what games and LEGO sets to get. I later bought myself Mario Maker and Splatoon though with all the Christmas money so hey, patience is key.
@@josiahtheawkward6008 Well, can never go wrong with Splatoon. Never really got into toys to life either had Disney infinity but could never really get into it. I preferred Little Big Planet which is somewhat similar where users create there own games within the game but without the toys to life gimmick and it was a 2d side scroller. It's been one of my favorite games for since I was 9 or 10
Yeah those puzzles are much better to accomplish when having 3 characters on the board. But he is also playing the WiiU version of the game, so his thing was also most likely glitched out.
lego dimensions is really funny in that they got a bunch of celebrities and voice actors to reprise their proper roles while every character for Ninjago and Chima (fully lego original properties with their own shows) uses soundalikes. we get the voice of sonic, roger craig smith voicing jay walker, the blue lightning ninja, as a result.
It’s weird how it was the best toys to life game, but at the same time I don’t think it should’ve been a toys to life game and it would’ve been better if it wasn’t.
I'm sad that Scott didn't like Dimensions too much. I love it, and despite all his points (especially the money) that detract from it, I feel it doesnt overcome how much love went into the story and characters. Just the fact that these figures can interact with each other and, to me, feel like they are being transported by the portals, makes this game never die in my heart.
Skylanders was like most of the video and it’s segments were interrupted by the Disney Infinity and Lego Dimensions segments. I doubt it but I wouldn’t be surprised if it did get it’s own video.
@@fanboy3463I bet it probably will get its own video. I think pretty much everything from any of Scott’s previous videos that can possibly be turned into a clip, a segment, or a compilation will all be released on this channel at some point.
I liked the fact that the game required so much use of the portal, made it feel more like a necessity to have the figures vs just being a $20 software unlock like amiibo or sky lander.
Exactly! If it wasn't made interactive you might as well have just paid for digital character packs. Taking away the whole point of the game. And considering it's by Lego, an interactive toy company it makes sense they'd have you actually play with the toys along with the game. Instead of just boring glorified decorations.
My only real disappointment with this game is if they had gotten their third year it was confirmed they’d return to old properties and make Missy from Doctor Who playable
It's pretty sad the only LEGO game to have so many different franchises in the same game and interacting with each other is locked behind an extremely expensive paywall.
I think one of LEGO Dimensions’ biggest problems comes from the fact that it’s toys to life. Because they can only ever count on you having Batman, Gandalf, and Wildstyle, those are the only characters that you really get to see doing weird crossover stuff. I think it would be way cooler if it was almost like Subspace Emissary, where there were multiple different “teams” that you got to follow.
That was my main issue, even back when it was a thing. At least they still has interaction dialogues ingame. Those are easily the best part, and was really missing in Disney Infinity
Lego dimensions literally had the PERFECT blueprint; multiple IPs to use and they’re already an iconic toy brand. But they fumbled with the actual game
I was so broke when I was little just buying Lego Dimensions was out of the question let alone the dozens of minifig/vehicle/level packs I couldnt afford either basically if it was more than $20 then nope 😢 now I'm older and have money but getting any of them at msrp is probably impossible haha emulator it is then. That's awesome though, nice collection, should take some pics and post it online I'd definitely like to see it.
@@webbedshadow2601 DON’T BUY THE LEGO SETS. Then it was overpriced, Now it IS OVERPRICED. Also, Don’t emulate the PS3, Xbox, or Wii U Versions. The PS4 and Xbox one have some overall improvements to the game.
This game was the sole reason I upgraded from my family's WII to the WII U. I loved playing Skylanders(swap force) and I loved Lego so it was a no-brainer (Luckily, my parents thought so too)
I remember enjoying Lego Dimensions and investing hundreds of dollars into the packs. I should find an Xbox 360 copy of the game itself and revisit it. I also remember accidentally deleting my brother's Nintendo Land save file to make room for the game because it took up a lot of storage.
Frankly, I loved LEGO Dimensions. Before it released, I visited the WB Games booth at PAX West, and it was one of the games they were demoing. I'm a big Whovian, so I asked if I could try the Doctor Who level. It sold me right then and there.
"Crossovers you'd never expect in a million years to see-" "BATMAN" *Batman has literally been a LEGO theme since the first LEGO Batman game came out in 2008* 😂
Last year, I actually 100%’d the game on my Xbox One… As in, the game itself, and EVERY pack. Yeah, I bought every pack years after it ended when most were super expensive. Glad I got Sonic and Portal during their initial release, they were probably the most expensive nowadays
@@trf386 Good luck. Hopefully the price will drop some amount once the nearly-identical (and superior) Sonic figures from the upcoming theme release August 1st
This is the most whiney exaggerated video I think I've ever seen. Feels like he's being overly harsh on Dimensions when almost every 'problem' exists in the other games or is a simple result of the toys to life format.
I never played the game, i just love that i was able to buy a Lego Portal 2 Chell Lego figure. Now the only thing i need is a Lego Gordon Freeman but i guess thats asking too much.
This game is severely underrated. Yeah it was overpriced, and the toys to life concept in general is problematic, but the fact they managed to combine all these different franchises into 1 single game, including some of the actors reprising their roles, is insane.
I was really into LEGO Dimensions a few years ago, but after a while constantly buying new packs for it became tedious. And after it got cancelled, I completely lost interest in it. I feel like if they just made a regular LEGO game without the toys-to-life gimmick, it would’ve been much better.
Personally, I think Lego Dimensions was one of the best lego games as making your own team to go through the main story was awesome, however when i got interested in the game when Sonic was announced, thats when I decide yep, I want this. So from memory, my team was Sonic as the leader, Finn the Human, Harry Potter, Super-Girl Excalibur Batman, Ethen Hunt and I had the Tornado and Sonic's car as the vehicles. The game is based on imagination, thats where the fun is.
Honestly with toys to life being dead at this point I see no reason why Lego shouldn't put this on newer consoles and fix all of the problems. It would fit for Lego fans and for people who want nonstalgia.
I never got to play Lego dimensions fully, I miss this game, I just wish we didn’t have to buy everything separately in real life, my parents always said no which sucks, I never got to play the full game
It kind of sucks that you had to buy the products in real life but out of all the toys to life this was the best one because you gotta build a a toy Most of them are just figurines Lego is the only one is actually a toy
I know this would be impossible, but a lego game where you can scan in any lego piece ever made and have your own creations appear in-game to perform certain actions.
There was gonna be a Year 3 of content planned, the franchises considered were… - Angry Birds - Avatar (James Cameron movie) - Avatar: The Last Airbender - Captain Underpants - CW Arrowverse - Despicable Me - Godzilla - How To Train Your Dragon - King Kong - Looney Tunes - Mega Man - Minecraft - Pirates of The Caribbean - Shrek - Steven Universe - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - The Croods - The DC Extended Universe (specifically Wonder Woman and Justice League) - The Lego Ninjago Movie - The Smurfs - Thunderbirds - Tintin - Tom & Jerry - Universal Classic Monsters
Just like Disney Infinity, the concept of having to buy the characters and the dimensions separately made it unplayable. You had to spend *a lot* of money to even beat the game as it is. It had potencial to be one of the best Lego games. The worlds were pretty big, they had side quests, a compelling story, but i don't really feel like spending hundreds of dollars just to beat a Lego game.
3:40: As I understand it, Scott, the game was for ages 7-14. I know gamers tend to take things that are not that important way too seriously, but saying that you found a part of the game that would fascinate a 7 year old "tedious" when the game is designed for them and not you is immature even by gamerboy standards.
If you consider what is coming in each pack, and the price of just a Minifig packet, or the Mario character packs you can buy, the Dimensions pricing actually matches up pretty well considering you're also getting in-game content. Yes $15 or $30 was a lot just for an in-game character. But you were getting more than that. Say one minifig, one vehicle and the electronic part as well as licensing fees. The prices were quite good. Only actual expensive part was if you wanted to buy all of them
As someone more into lego's original IPs than the licensed themes, the lineup is disappointing. You've only got Ninjago, Chima and Lego Movie compared to all the licenses that didn't even have sets before Dimensions. C'mon, I love Portal, but _Portal?_ Would it've hurt to throw some Elves or Ultra Agents in there? Anyway, bring back bionicle.
#Skylanders Came 1st & #DisneyInfinity KO'ed Dimensions Before It Had A Chance To Grow! But ALSO, #SuperChargers Introducing Various Vehicles Didn't Help The Competition!
When I was younger I had played the wii version of Lego dimensions and it was the shitiest quality ever but was still fun. I wasn’t even able to finish the game because of how buggy it was. But once I switched to the ps4 version a few years later it was way more fun and had a lot better quality.
WyldStyle, Emmet & Vitruvius (#MorganFreeman) Are The ONLY TRUE #MasterBuliders! They Just Included Her, Because Her & Batman Were MOST Popular! Would You Have Rather Had: Emmet, Robin & Legolas?
Otherwise, Dimensions Was Removing Older Packs in Favor Of Newer Ones? While BOTH #Skylanders & #DisneyInfinity Figurines Were ALL STILL Being Sold At BOTH Walmart & Target For MANY Years... Til' They Got Clearanced Around The Time That #SuperChargers & Infinity 3.0 (StarWars) Was Entering Market.
I Feel That It Came Out TOO LATE, Just As SL; #SuperChargers Was Hitting Shelves For ALL Consoles! #ToysForBob Was RLY Revolutionary For It's Time & Utilising The Dying Spyro License Totally Kicked-It-Up Some Notches! Missed Oppertunity Was NOT Including: Crash & NeoCortex!
Bro could have had his own LEGO dimensions pack but LEGO sees his channel as inappropriate ITS A GUY FROM OHIO THAT LOVES NINTENDO GAMES LET MY MAN COOK!!!
If you had a disposable income, this has my money for being the best toys to life game. Takes full advantage of the medium: the wacky crossovers, actually being desirable toys, interaction from the physical world to the gaming world, motherfucking Lego Sonic
It does?? That's awesome!! definitely would be a way for me to experience Lego Dimensions and all the packs that came out even if its just the instruction manuals and not actually playing the game
I still have my lego dimensions collection from when it came out and i even got the playstation 4 version disk so i could use it with all irs blu ray glory powered up even more on the ps5. Originally played on wii u version and something scott here doesnt mention is that wii u, ps3, ps4 portals are all universal with each other so if you got lets say rhe wii u toy pad but you had a ps3 or ps4, you could just get a copy of the game for ps4 and tour good ro go. Xbox on rhe other hand are restricted to their respective consoles (thanks Microsoft..) which is why if you try getting the xbox one version toy pad since it IS compatible with the series X (ONLY the series X as the game was physical only. ) The toy pad is expensive but the game is dirt cheap while if you get the ps4 version due to the fact that the game can work with all pads frpm wii u era, ps3 era, and its own era and work on ps5 (disc drive ones), the toy pad is cheap but rhe game.is a little expensive (29$ if lucky to 39$ or maybe a few cents to 2$ if extremely lucky in a thrift store, backlog store and so on). Tbh scott's given this game a harsh review despite what its done with its time as a toys to life game. He blames rhe game for havinf clunky controls but he really needs to remember who made the game. *Cough* tell tale games *cough* and they are known for their good story and art styles but also known for their clunky/buggy messes that can occur (or be forced to occur if you know what flags trigger them or can even be spontaneously triggered for no reason) in games developed or co-developed by them. If warner bros and what other studio was helping with making this amazing game wasnt with tell tale and twll tale.was lwft to their pwn devices the gameplay would be clunky to rhe point stuff just wouldn't work right like models deloading, assets unloading, music glitching out, so on. Btw music in this game despite some of them being reused songs, most are remixes of songs already known and are just 🤌🤌. But yeah too harsh for a game rhat has done so much and probably wont ever be pulled off in the near future.
I have this game, but for some reason I never played it yet. (The reason I even have it is because it came with my friend’s Wii U when he gave it to me)
I remember the only packs I wanted to buy was the Doctor Who packs to go with the Ideas set. Aside from that, I didn't like the idea of the game. To me it was the same type of game I've played before but now I have to buy the characters with real money instead of unlocking them through gameplay. Great idea. Just not for me.
Lego dimensions was just a few years too early If it came out now, with mini figure packs that you can get a code that add mini figures to Lego dimensions would’ve been really cool idea
Lego dimensions had potential one of the reasons was the pricing of it just look at sonic he's 90!! Dollars but if this was a game (not Toys to life) it would probably be a good game
I appreciate that Scott brought up not having paper instructions... As a huge Back To The Future fan, I was so excited when I got a set, but I think those random bricks are scattered everywhere, never to be put together...
If it ever comes back it needs to make the packs less money and more ips don’t get me wrong I loved what we got but we need more know characters and popular characters
I remember that when it was released and I bought it as an around 7 year old, it said in one of the ads that you could bring your minifigure to life. I thought that actually meant my figures, so when it came, me and my brother got together our lego and chose a fig. We replaced it with Gandalf's thingy and started the game. You guessed it... Gandalf. OtOtherhan that I loved it. Only got stuck in one level, to stop and buy it for the ps4 years later. Now it's together with lego marvel actually my favorite lego game (haven't completed lego marvel 2 yet)! (Sorry for the bad english btw)
I had lego dimensions when I was younger but I had the 360 version so it ran pretty terribly and it froze on The Simpsons level in the main story. Never got to finish it, but I did get the sonic pack which made it all worth it.
Ah you had the same issue I had when I first got it! I unfortunately made my parents buy a whole new set just for the game, and then it did work! Now in 2024, I got a ps4 copy, got through that level with no crashes and happily playing through the story
i remember this was like my favorite game of all time and i lost the batman minifigure. losing any of the three main characters makes it so you can't start a new game anymore and straight up makes it unplayable. devastated
Other than price, the main problem with the game itself was that it was a HUGE game built on the same software they'd been using since the origonal Lego Star Wars, which couldn't handle the insane amount of content and features. This lead to a lot of crashing and save corruptions, which probably lead to a lot of parents not buying more packs because the game doesn't work.
I always wanted to play Lego Dimensions, mainly for the Sonic set however, it was expensive. I wish they just ported it to pc or consoles as the base game with DLC to purchase separately in game
