Very cute! Personally I'd like to see it in the Fairground just cause I think it looks really fun, but if the logistics won't easily allow for it, then I think having it on the road coming in (as a scene) works just as well. :)
Since it won't fit under the monorails, maybe have it stuck on the wrong side? And a scene where they're trying to figure out how to get around this mistake, while traffic backs up behind?
Yeah, first time I saw it stowed, 'Low Bridge' was one of my first thoughts too. A funny scene indeed, particularly if there's an annoyed policeman standing there.
16:34 That gave me an idea for a fun scene: Maybe the ride is malfunctioning and running at full tilt, with a panicing ride operator practically leaping to the generator to try and turn off the power, while at least one of the occupants of the rides hold onto something (which likely requires some modifications) for dear life as he is in the danger of flying off the ride. That could potentially even be enhanced by incorporating some illuminated transparent red or orange pieces on the base of the pillar, to make it look like it's glowing from the sheer friction this speed causes.
How about display it half assembled, like they are just setting it up at the fair grounds? If you can place it against the wall, you can have part of the track in front of the alien’s face down, but the other one still up. You can have a crew setting up the ride, and also have a line of excited people waiting on it to start, all the while having the carnival manager yelling at them for being late.
As much I'd like to see the ride motorized and in the fairground, I actually really like how it looks on the street. I think it could make for a funny scene with a stressed driver and it would also bring the fairground fun outside the park for more interest.
I think you can put it in the fairground UNMOTORIZED with the justification that I have never been to a fair where there wasn't one or two rides that were broken. Just add some workers and people stuck on the ride (or getting down via ladders).
Motorized! I think you can move the space alien back and make the ride at an angle, alot of those type of rides rely on gravity for the falling part. As for changes the first would be a couple of rims to the wheels that match the colors of the rides and alien. A second would be turning the head one stud in either direction so it is kind of facing the camera or over looking the area where cars get in.
I like someone’s idea to have it stuck behind the monorail and they’re trying to figure out what to do! That could be a really fun scene. Another idea is to have it in the fairgrounds still but partially deployed because they were late and are still setting up the ride! You could make that a fun scene with some one yelling or mad at them for being late and maybe a kid upset because they want to ride the ride. The workers could be frantically setting up. Great video as usual!
I think you need a scene where the "Super Secret Police" are arresting the driver of the truck because they think he is part of the alien invasion force and that is why he is late to the fairground. 🤣
Stowed on the road somewhere in the city, I think even furter from the fairground would be nicer, so it really is a surprise if a visitor finds it there
I think it should be stuck under a bridge with the traffic building up behind it. With spaceman and alien mini figs arguing how to get it to the fair ground. I also really hope you include the loop coaster
I think option one and for the new rollercoaster maybe place it on top of the mine with The whole set mirrored so the lift Will be in the corner of the room
I think you should have it somewhere attempting to make a turn. It accidentally hit something, and caused a massive traffic jam. Would make for a good scene! Glad you got this set. I do hope you get the new coaster, but I have no idea how and where you would put it. But the height of it in your city would look fantastic especially from the first standing hole.
Hi Robin, to motorize the ride you could put an axle down below through the pin hole in the raised portion of those DBG plates 64954 and then gear it 90° to the side. You probably would have to change the construction for the rear wheels to do so but it should not be too big of a problem.
What an awesome sticker on that cab, best sticker design I have seen in a while. You gotta just love the retro spaceman! I wondered if you would get this set and I enjoyed your vision on it very much. As for placing.. I rather see you're secret plan develop for the center. So the placement for now is fine by me!
The alien certainly seems like its based off kang and kodos. And there's a ride similar to it in universal studios in california I believe where the middle part is either kang or kodos.
if you're going to have it on the roads in your city I suggest rotating the track supports 90 degrees and the arm with the sign 180 degrees. it makes the trailer a whole lot lower and compact/realistic looking.
@@RobinHoodBricks i also turned the hinges around on the struts so that it's technically a legal building technique. They just look a bit off hanging in the air like that, but they're good for stability when folded out
If it's arriving late wouldn't there need to be an empty space for it to go? What about if it looks as if it's half setup. They still arrived late, you can still have a funny scene of the angry manager, you can still see the great alien face, and it doesn't take up as much space.
Another great video - thank you. JJ and I have been thinking. We think you need to keep your mine plans intact as they’ve sounded great. However, we feel you do also need this new ride motorised *and* Brick Nottingham deserves the new 3 mile high rollercoaster. You always say packed and stacked, so let’s do it! New roller coaster on top of your mine. Mine might partly be a mountain? Or alternatively might it go deeper? Regardless, you can slot in that massive rollercoaster 🎢 in there somewhere - we believe in you. For the latest ride today, it looks good either way but it did look really smooth when motorised. How about *also* using it as an excuse to get the rollercoaster? It is currently being delivered and when the rollercoaster arrives, it will all be linked in. Finally, what’s this about the new ride not being able to fit under the tram tracks? It clearly arrived via plane in a section beyond the wall…
Maybe the mine integration can take advantage of under table space or table edges to give the appearance that the mine opening may be back in that part of the table, but the mines themselves are quite extensive- presumably in many directions. And we could do some fun things with hallways branching back out of sight just by having halls fade into a black space if the lights are out or bend at an angle out of view. This could also give the illusion that one of those corridores was bending up or down as it escapes our field of view as well for some nice semi organic tunneling.
Having been a steward on goose fair for a number of years, I can testify that some of these modern rides do come on ridiculously long vehicles. My concern is the height of the vehicle and the stowed ride. It's too tall. Other than that it's brilliant. I had to think about the height of my micro funfair wagons when I designed them.
I’d have either the driver have one of those alien possession heads on it or have it piloted by an actual alien. Perhaps this is the cover they used to get close to the space lab? Also that head hat would be great for a member of the SSP to be going undercover in the lab break in.
I think stowed for more variety (and coming from the wall) I’d prefer if you keep the corner for the mines instead of the Loop coaster again for variety
if the truck decides to stay out of the fairground, you could actually work the low bridges into the scene as to why the truck is running late, in that they have gotten stuck on one side of the monorail bridge
I think it does look great in the fairground but for me the worldbuilding of having the truck on the roads is more interesting and really makes the city feel less static
It looks great on the road with the police escort. Can't have them all in the fairground! And it ties the fairground to the rest of the city even more with it being on the road.
Great set indeed I like both ideas (but it is a little difficult to decide when we don’t know, what the alternative on the fairground is ;) When you decide to motorize it, maybe you can build the motor in the cockpit of the truck? If you keep it on the street I would get ride of the black supports and lift up the green alien so that you can see the face. Keep up the great work ;)
I think it is worth putting in the fairground if there is space. the motor could be hidden in a shed or a booth or something. but you can also have it in the process of being set up. put the track in front of the alien down and have a scene where they are putting the second half down
I think if you do decide to motorise it, you could replace the handle on the back with a few gears stacked on top of each other or chain driven for getting down below ground to a worm gear to reduce the speed, then hide it all with a better set of steps to get up to the ride, also if you wanted to remove the truck it would just have to drive away from the shaft in the steps
Robin i think you should break it down in stow mode and make a train car out of it. mod it to fit under your overpasses. i can not remember if your fair ground is represented on your train. but when you showed it it transport, thats the 1st thing i thought of...a train car.
I think you can keep it both in road going format and have it as a motorised fairground ride. Modify the set a little to have the cog that makes it spin under the trailer. Then you could have a part of your fairground with a powered cog sticking up from the base plate (suitably disguised). You can keep this set on the road until you decide it's going to the fairground, then just drive this set up, engage cogs, unfold ride et viola. Rinse and repeat for multiple future moc rides that fit on trucks and/or cargo train wagons.
Thanks for sharing this. If this one goes on sale on our local store, I’ll definitely grt one. The set looks like a great addition but if you have an even better secret MOC planned, then I’d go for that 😊👍
Someone suggested to me that I get in touch regarding you turning some of my LDD creations into instructions. Apparently you have done this for others. Of course you may not want to but it could be mutually beneficial and fun? Email me on the address on my YT channel page if you're interested at all!
You could have it folded up in the fairground, maybe if you move the octopus ride toward the coaster a bit and then have the truck parked beside the pirate coaster and against the standing hole. It could be half set up. Like they showed up late and are still in the process of unpacking it..
I'm maybe a bit late with my idea. However, I would like to share it: the truck could be on the road and the roller coaster part pointing towards us could have fallen down including a good scene, so that we can also see the cool face of the alien.
I agree that truck is maybe too big for the fairground. But having it on the street like that has one major issue. The roller coster track is covering the beautiful face of that alien. Maybe you can create a car accident scene or something like that so that the track can be follded down and the face is visible to everyone, additonally you would have a story why the truck is late.
Cool set! I do prefer it not in the fairground since you have so many rides that spin, but the set looks really awesome! I do agree it's tall, and it's kind of blocking the airport as well; maybe have it come out of the wall to the fairground, though I'm not sure what that will entail for that road since it zig-zags and would look weird trying to navigate them. Also, I agree that that the piece that turns the ride does stick out, so if you leave it undeployed, take that off and just store it in your spare parts since you're not using it so it's not hanging off the back. Been a while since you've done vehicle of the week!
I think that since this is part of a traveling carnival it may be good to extend the cab of the truck by about four studs to include a sleeper section.
This definitely needs to be on the road, stuck under a monorail overpass because the driver miscalculated his height clearance. Happens all the time here in Australia! Perhaps part of the track has been knocked off as he’s tried to drive under, revealing the alien’s fabulous face!
I loved this because that's the closest a City-branded set got to a Creator Amusement Park one. It just apparently may have a bad time trying going under most viaducts or tunnels.
Fun set! So curious what the secret plan for the space was instead (vendors etc). I love the figs/possible scenes, but that’s a lot of real estate. Stowed maybe coming in the opposite direction?
I'm keen to see your secret project for that space, so I'd put it on the road. What if you made a small car crash scene? the driver didn't know the monorail height clearance would be an issue and drove straight into it hence he's late to the Fair (possibly even knocking off one of the sides to fully expose the alien head so we can still see it). The Vintage Space Hero could be there trying to prop the side back up.
I like it on the streets. Perhaps moving/adjusting the sign and removing the track supports would make the whole thing a bit shorter and a bit more realistic. In the states a long load would have company pilot cars and only use the police if they end up blocking the road completely (we move a bunch of wind turbine blades and they have pilot cars for most of the way, but the police block intersections in town if they need to). Perhaps matching theme motorcycles with lights to replace the police bikes would be cool?
The one eyed alien design probably harks back to the 50s in films and comics, so rather than being based on Kang and Kodos I think they have a common ancestry. 🙂
Maybe he's late because he didn't account for the height clearance in Brick Nottingham , you could show him being held up near the track. I 'd give priority to your custom rides over store bought rides in my city.
I think its best in transport mode, you could do some minor improvements aswell if you have it only in transport mode, like yeeting the ugly supports for the track, yeeting the crank, or make the trailer even 4studs shorter yeeting the ticket booth.
@RHB: your comment regarding Kang & Kronos: yeah Lego really should have gone with them. It would have covered two themes, The Simpsons and The Fairground. Maybe some creative individual(s) will do a MOC.
@@RobinHoodBricks : with existing parts - yes. I was surprised and pleased when Lego did the ship in a bottle build - all the clear pieces (I bought one). So Lego could manufacture piece(s) for that. Drool - adds authenticity but not really needed.
How about having it "being setup" in the fairground rather than fully powered. It could be placed in the fairground but have carnies climbing over it with wrenches etc so that it's not ready to switch on but can still be in the grassy areas just not spinning round.
When I saw this set for the first time I really wanted it, but after watching this video I have decided it is better than I thought, and worse than I thought in ways. The price is great, the look is great, but it is very large and seems a bit empty in some places. I want to get the Loop Coaster set and my fairground is WAY smaller than yours so I'm unsure whether I really want it. However knowing me I'll buy it before months end. Great video Robin!
If I understood you right, you said the only place the new piece don’t have a hole is where they join. Does that mean they do have holes on the bottom half? (Haven’t had a chance to some myself.) If so, why not try having the gear on the side go vertically, so you don’t have to change the sizes. You could also change the gears to a technic lager and small gear to really gear it down.
This carnival ride set is sweet. I'd like to see it set up, but then again 8f it's going to fill the space for the secret build then why not add it to the area where you want to put the new roller coaster?
i hate to say it Robin but you might have to ask Mrs Hood for a bigger room again 😊. But seriously i think it is cool to have it drive from the mine side of the city towards the fairground, perhaps you can make the head of the alien more higher or something... Quick question What is the next new lego realease you have on your wishlist... or are you waiting for classic space set as you mentioned that set a long while ago as the one you wanted when you were young...
I have a second passenger train and chimp Stuntz coming but other purchases must wait until the Forestman gift is out or the classic castle or classic spaceship, if they are good enough. Although how any of them will fit, I have no idea!
I don't know what the big rig rules are for brick Nottingham but maybe you can add another trailer to this set and make it a generator trailer with the same color pattern. Here in the USA in some Fairgrounds a generator trailer has to be Hauled or towed by the big rig with the smallest ride. Its very rare but they only do it if they need to move out quickly before the heavy rain hits. Some call this two trailers idea a "road train" because the big rig is hauling a big load on one trailer then a other trailer is hauling the same or something smaller right behind the big trailer and lol hints the name road train because it looks like a train but on a road. Lols. Ps the motor for the ride can be in the generator trailer.
Perhaps a silly question from the other side of the pond, but do your instructions tell you to put the Steering wheel on the right or did you do that yourself?
I honestly prefer it in the fairground! It's a nice set which is quite varied from the others. Also it fits with the other extraterrestrial life in the city :). The other rollercoaster. I wouldn't be happy if you would sarcifice the mine for that. It's a nice set, but another rollercoaster... and bit too little variety.
You could have it beaming down from a UFO. The Alien invasion begins.... The Alien who will operate the ride is dressing in his human form to disguise himself.
Honestly I don't think it's worth motorizing and stuffing into the fairground. Making it look like it's late would be good I think. If you were to motorize it, you could swap the side of the trailer that the axle comes in, and build the motor into the cab section
How about having the motor underneath the fairground and spin the ride through the original crank position using gears to connect the motor’s axel at a 90 degree angle?
