My head-cannon is that the Troll's are not just one race, but separate races like Orc's and Ogres united for some reason, think of it like the Goblinoid races of DnD.

I like to imagine that they're like the Warhammer 40k Orks when it comes to building. They would just smash random materials into each other and somehow make a sturdy fortress or a working vehicle

The trolls were a faction with units in the DS game Lego Battles. Lego Battles was inpressive RTS game with loads of lego themes, the knights and fantasy were my favorite, was like having a portable Age of Empires on the ds.

That's awesome. I'll have to look this up. I love these kinds of games. There was an actual portable Age of Empires on DS but they made it turn-based rather than RTS. Still a great game.

@@legion2590 There was also an Age of Mythology too on the DS. Those games play more like a Civilization game turn based, which is cool but also unexpected. Lego Battles plays more like RTS using the stylus like a mouse, was surprisingly decent for $20 and filled what I wanted from a portable RTS. Makes me wish Warcraft 2 got a random DS version too XD

I consider the big guys as trolls, and the figures as orcs It makes sense because trolls in general are portrayed as larger and dumber than orcs, with less human-like proportions. You can tell a troll is a different species right off the bat because the way their body is build is quite different (huge hump back, extremely long face, large broad shoulders but tiny legs) Lego portrayed this by creating a custom large figure mold for them Orcs on the other hand are roughly the same size and proportions as a human, (essentially green skinned humans with a rougher and more battered appearance) but are more primitive than them, like a group of barbarians on steroids. Lego portrayed this as making them recolored minifigures with roughed up clothing and crudely built armor/weapons

I’ve always been a fan of heroica, and the designs of these trolls and the trolls from heroica are strikingly similar. I wonder if there could be a connection there. As always, love the vids, keep it up! The editing is AMAZING!!!

Technically they're called goblins in Heroica, but considering they're the height of normal people, the name difference probably just comes down to local language. You might be on to something!

Straight banger ep, these typa videos have been fueling my fantasy era collection of recent (new additions Troll Warship, Drawbridge defence, Medieval market, advent calendar, and many of the small box set they made). That being said, love the content and hopefully I wont miss you next year in Chicago

Another fine pint of lego tavern talk! Loved learning where they came from and what their goal in life is!, also that first troll joke made me chuckle haha!. You know that it is a somewhat curious thing, the new emblem of the trolls has an almost perfect similarity with the emblem of the orks from warhammer 40k, something that I find really funny

Fantasy Era Castle released during my dark ages so I'm disappointed to have missed it (especially since I eventually started making D&D minifigs on Instagram) and never realized there was lore for the faction. And I find that lore surprisingly compelling for what I always imagined were generic barbarian orcs. Fearsome mercenaries, skilled seafarers, and inventive builders. I think I'll make a d&d race/faction based on them with a few minor changes to make them less overtly villainous. Thanks for the tavern talk. It was fun learning more about a lego theme I didn't experience much. 🍻 Cheers!

As a massive fan of LOTR this was the closest my childhood self got to being able to recreate parts of middle earth. Of course it only got better with the (way too short lived) lotr/hobbit line.

Just found your channel not that long ago and while I was aware of some of the stuff from the fantasy era of LEGO Castle, you introduced me to the Elflands and tons of other castle related stuff. So thank you for that. And now that you've done the Trolls, you need to do a video on the Evil Wizard and his skeleton army and maybe a video on the dwarves.

Thank you!! Glad you are enjoying these! So I plan on doing every castle faction and theme. But I jump around because I go towards what ever is interesting to me or relivent. I am also starting to do some classic space content in a new series called space port. So from now on I’m going to jump between space and castle so next video is blacktron then I’m going to do crusaders. Then I’m going to do classic space. Then I hope to do the dwarfs because I found some awesome stuff about them!

Great video, I really love the troll faction! Lego has been putting in significant effort to make references and entire sets dedicated to classic castle factions, but I really hope they give some of the newer factions, especially fantasy ones or the dragon knights, sets of their own. What I wouldn’t give for a dwarf or a troll centric set…..

I have a troll theory, there is only one female troll (which I am lucky enough to have in my collection) which makes me think that the troll army is like an ant hive, and the queen gives birth to all the trolls, or uses magic to conjure an infinite army.

Trolls (or Orcs as I like to call them - old Warcraft player) are greate, in general Castle Fantasy is awsome. Sadly I heve accedent with my only troll minifigure, his torso literaly desintegrate, I don't know why, torso and arms broke into pices when I give him proper weapon and shield. I put him on another torso - similar, but now that not oryginal minifig. But back to topic ;) great video, I see that You have map that great. I always have hope tha LEGO (or somone else) create a LEGO Castle map, with all fraction and there teritories, tah would be samoe thing graat, and add lot for creating stories. For example I am curious about Blac Falcon reign and if ther is separet kingdom, domain princehood of "Red Falcons". ;)

@@BrickingUpBrad and another question (sorry to bother !😂) will you also make a ... well I don't know if you've herd of it before, but it has to do with a very old Lego series Its from those time when Lego still called its self LEGO SYSTEM and it had a some Lego sets that had to with ninjas and samurais, and according to some of my sources it was part of the Lego castle theme!!!

I also want to start doing some classic space videos. So my next tavern talk like video will be about blacktron and is going to be apart of a new series called spaceport (still working shopping the name) I also want to do pirates and a ton of other classic themes. Oh my gosh, wow. So many good points! The troll army is really one of my favorites. And so is the fantasy era. I think its one of the best themes, if not the best. What do you think? And I love your point about the western kingdom.Ha ha, they really do need to take better care of their royalty!
