Ah Tiago this might be the first time I disagree with you. I personally LOVE this set, it is absolutely stunning. I've been wanting a forced perspective LEGO set for years, so this is a dream come true for me. And $170 for 2,300 pieces is an incredible deal too.

I REALLY like how since everything sticks out it provides depth to it and the framing as well is perfect for this set. Very impressed with the outcome of this

When this set was announced I was thought it was a great concept and was looking forward to seeing how it would turn out. The final product has blown away all my expectations. I think it looks incredible and love how 3D it is.

It's such an expressive build and I think lego knocked it out of the park for this idea's set.( kudos to the original guy who designed this set).

I think the meta way you can pose the minifig painting with the painting itself is such a brilliant idea. It reflects on the genius and the tragedy of Van Gogh, the way he saw the world and how it impacted his art. Brilliant.

I am absolutely floored by how beautiful this looks. I want it so badly.

I haven’t been so excited since Discovery and this is much closer to my heart. Pointing kit that from the minifig’s POV it looks more like an actual landscape more than makes up for how the tree being so forward feels awkward at first look. My first Day One in a year or more.

I love the 3D aspect of this set. Day 1 purchase for me. I hope they take this concept beyond the MoMA collection. I'd love to see the Great Wave of Kanagawa done in the same style.

I’m an art teacher and this is one of the paintings my kids need to know for the end of year exam, so it’s definitely going up in my classroom.

This, to me, is one of the very few new sets that check all the boxes for me, and currently tops my list of sets I need in my life. It's always interesting to see 2D art transformed into 3D, and the fact that it can be hung on a wall is an advantage, since it does control viewing angles a bit. It's definitely a fun thing to have around.

This one is DEFINITELY going on the wishlist! I love the idea of having a 3D Starry Night made out of LEGO jutting off of my wall! Much more unique than, say, another poster or family photo...

Starry Night is one of my favorite paintings. I made one out of Lego and have it displayed on my desk at work. My grandfather and I also really liked the song Don McLean wrote about Van Gogh. My grandfather passed away a few months back and I’m excited to have a Lego set that is a combination of things we both enjoyed.

I will 100% buy this. I personally love art sets like these and I this will be my first ever in my collection

Holy smokes I LOVE IT even from the 'off' angles. I am 100% picking this up. If they made a "living painting" like this by MC Escher I would lose my mind with excitement.

The mini figure of Van Gogh is I think incredibly designed! I really love the paint stroke affect on his clothes as if the figure was the portrait painting of him!

I just finished building this set and I’m in love. I’ve always been a big fan of art and have recently come to know Van Goghs less talked about pieces but I still think Starry Night is my favorite. I’m in band and we actually did a marching show called “Through Vincent’s Eyes” and it features his paintings, a trumpet/singing solo done by our trumpet senior dressed as Vincent, and the marching style used mimics the curling and soft strokes of the Starry Night. The song our solo trumpet singer sings is Starry Starry Night by Don McLean. The show is the reason I really wanted to get this set, since it would be a reminder of my first year in marching band and the joy and pain of marching. I’m so proud to finally own this set and I’m going to show my band directors when we get back from break

I think it looks fantastic, Starry Night is one of my favorite paintings of all time and I think the concept of giving it "depth" in a lego build instead of just a flat 2d painting is so incredibly awesome!

This set is the epitome of Lego Ideas, really cool. Should be easy to mod into a shadowbox, which I think would be nicer/cleaner.

I personally absolutely love that it's not just a flat wall mimicking the original painting, that would be super boring especially as a display. With this 3D effect it literally pops out and is an amazing eyecatcher and because it's 3D people will look it at and move around it, so that's honestly just amazing for an display piece. I like that it's possible to have it stand in a shelf on its own, but as it's a piece of art it belongs the wall, the wall hanger is a great addition. I'm not the biggest fan of Lego, but I may actually get this because it just looks amazing!

This set is so beautiful! I love the fact that they reprinted the pallet in the colors of the set. It is such a nice detail. The designers did such an incredible job at making this beautiful, and the fan designer was a genius for introducing it! The frame is so cool too. Thanks for this review, Tiago! An unbelievably beautiful set with an incredible amount of rare parts, colors, and unorthodox building techniques. However, I am too invested in the mosaic line to change course. I will definitely be duplicating the black frame on some of my mosaics, though.

That's a pretty cool set! I love that it isn't just a mosaic like with the art sets, but built with layers. I only have a problem with the minifig: no ears! Van Gogh only cut of one ear....

This is a magnificent set. I love the fact that they made the set 3D to look at all angles. I like that you can display the set with Van Gogh looking at the scenery. Overall, this is my favorite lego set. An easy 10/10. (I actually got this early with VIP access.) I sure do hope they make more Van Gogh sets like his sunflowers or starry night over the Rhône.

Really hope a much more detailed world map will come soon, with mountains, buildings and stuff

The day i saw this design by the creator on Instagram, i loved it, the concept and use of parts is amazing and really nice to see the very little changes overall when going from fan design to official lego design. Greta review as always.

It’s astonishing to me just how many elements of the original painting are incorporated. (Color, tone, brushstrokes, not to mention the gloriously wild night sky! Vincent’s bold expression was captured. Scale seems to be as accurate as one might hope in such reimagining.. Church and houses are perfect, as is most of this unique and beautiful build. Give us more Van Gogh, Lego. And surely the Surrealists are calling.

I have a lot of friends who are obsessed with lego as their hobby and I never understood the hype but wow this set might change my mind it absolutely gorgeous and I want to buy it even though it might be quite hard for a beginner 😂

The only thing I don’t like about it is how far out the scenery sticks out, so it would look fine on a table but bad on a wall.

This is exactly what I was thinking of when you reviewed the Rolling Stone wall hanging yesterday. I think there's a good case for unique Lego wall art. Posters, frames, display shelves, pop art, etc. I like the use of forced perspective here, and that they didn't just rely on dot art. Lego has the set listed at $170, and it releases June 1st.

I think this could be the start to a new line of art sets. I mean, there's just so many interesting art pieces out there that could be made with Lego.

One of my favorite aspects of Van Gogh's paintings is their thick streaks and gobs of paint. They give the painting a texture and dimension I really appreciate. To see it taken to this 3D LEGO-level is very intriguing.

We have this displayed at my house and people always comment on it! Love it

Been super hyped for this set and I'm thrilled on how this looks! 😍 I usually don't buy sets day 1, but I'm strongly considering it for this one.

Gotta disagree big time. I've waited well over a year for this, if not longer, and knew I'd pay whatever the price was. It looks gorgeous and prob the most complex set I've built yet, as I had to redo a few sections due to using a wrong colored piece or whatnot. Not to mention it's gorgeous and really captures Van Gogh's paint strokes with how many pieces there are and how it changes. The ONLY issue I have is that there isn't a little support pillar on the left side like there is on the right. Oh, and the fact that ordering it on the 25th through the VIP only resulting in it arriving the day before it's official release lol

I would love to have this in my collection.

I just bought this yesterday. I’m excited to do it. As someone who appreciates art, this will hang in my living room. I have just finished the grand piano and I am currently halfway through the typewriter. My husband however has been doing my go through covid. We have the titanic, the world map, the globe, all the flowers, the ghostbuster car, the back to the future car, VW vans and cars and the apartments and CAFE for the show friends. And that’s just a handful of things we have around our house. ❤️❤️

I'm sure someone said this already but it'll be $169.99 USD when released. So I think it definitely is decent value, and it's extremely unique and interesting looking. The van Gogh minfig is based on his self portrait too.

I love this set! I love the original design, and i love the building experience from the Lego design! I'm certainly biased, as van Gogh is one of my favorite painters. However, I would really like to modify the build to more closely suit the original fan design, and the original painting, with so many more studs to imitate the curvature of the brushstrokes. I think the decision to make the background layer built up like a brick wall (while holding with lego's structural practices) was a very poor comprise to make. The original design had a much nicer texture. But also, I'd like to use some other (secret) techniques that I think could emulate the colors of the original painting even more. It's so nice to have a set to build off of though! I'm so glad this set came out! I've never cried so much while building a lego set (I'm a big fan of van Gogh)

The moon dish piece is placed in the wrong orientation. The moon is facing inwards when it’s supposed to be placed outwards.

Long before it was an official set I got the ali express version. It was the most infuriating build. So many shades of slightly different blue. Hope Lego has fixed it as I want an official set.

Love this set! Wonderful display piece. The layering is brilliant to me and that micro village is so cute and great to look at. Don't like the little extension though for the van Gogh fig and easel. I'm sure someone will moc a lego 'ear' to go with this ;)

We bought this Lego set yesterday, after attending the Van Gogh Alive immersive exhibition. I was brought to tears during the Saint-Rémy asylum part, his pain touched me deeply. He painted some of his best paintings during this period of his life. The quote at the end describes the foolishness of life, as the painter’s soul is far more important than artistic appreciation, which changes with time. “I can't change the fact that my paintings don't sell. But the time will come when people will recognize that they are worth more than the value of the paints used in the picture.”
