I thought the Mercedes looked really cool on the box and I love the orange color, but comparing it to the Land Rover really draws attention to all the exposed Technic holes on the Mercedes. Great video guys!
I think it looks more like a classic (or retro) technic set with less specialzed pieces. Like the mudguard is built of technic bars and not specially molded pieces. I like it better.
I'm in doubt on a purchase. Technically the Landrover was more complex with the working gearbox and stuff, especiallly for the money. I don't mind the gaps but I was hoping it would also have a working gearbox. I think I'm due a nice set, I was hoping this would be it, now I'm doubtfull.
Nice comparison. The most obvious difference IMHO is the much simpler drivetrain on the G500. The LR was fairly complex and easy to put together in ways that caused some problems...maybe Lego wanted to avoid that, but then perhaps the price should reflect that. The G500 build had some odd points, including several places where the pieces are "bent," not perpendicular nor parallel. I'm not really complaining - I bought the G500, enjoyed building it and have no regrets. But I bought it thinking it was going to be equal to the LR and it really isn't quite in the same class.
Great review guys! For me all the Mercedes does is highlight how awesome the Landrover was, and still is 5/6 years later. For me, the Mercedes in comparison just looks like it was a half arse job. And how are we STILL having this ugly blue pin issue. I was looking forward to putting this set with my Landrover but nah, it's an easy pass, my shelf space is too valuable to waste on this average set.
Two good points (in my opinion) here: in several ways the LR really compares well to the G500, and it compares well even after five years, which is pretty remarkable, given the general design/build advances at Lego in the last five years. And that throws some cool water on the pricing of the G500, since in some ways the LR (which sold for less) is a more advanced set.
Awesome video! Technic has been doing great this year, in my opinion! We definitely need an Alex's Top 5 Technic of 2024 video! Space, F1, Supercar, and now this!! Also, I'm coming in to hopefully help out for your reviews of the Jesko sets so you don't get roasted in the comments. It's "yes-ko" as opposed to "jess-ko".
Another moc copy by Lego... land rover after market max 130$ and new Mercedes 260$ ...My qyestion is for what double price when people try to get rid of landrover even it was really good building time......
Looks cool to thrash around in the back yard. Not very nice as a display though. Landrover looks better. Not interested in a Mercedes. Wish it was a Landcruiser or Suzuki Jimny instead.
