This unoriginal joke needs to die already, it's impossibleto be "early" as the video wouldn't even be uploaded yet and when we get here doesn't matter anyway.
@Nicholas Rude I liked the attempt of having an animal look to all the bases and vehicles, although the success in practice might have varied a bit. Cool gimmick, anyway.
It's ashame at how Lego has evolved with original themes becoming a minority to the licensed themes, I loved the charm the 90s themes and sub themes had, licensed themes are nice and all, but I just find them really limiting to the imagination, like there's not much more to do with the set other than reenact the scene of the movie, I just enjoy it when Lego releases an original theme without a whole story surrounding it. Space has always fascinated me for that reason, Lego didn't make a show or write a whole storyline for every single space sub theme, they just gave a vague explanation of each sub themes purpose in the space community and left the rest up to the builder to make their own storyline. I really wish Lego would take another crack at that idea again, they can just devote a single theme that contains various factions of aliens, and possibly some humans that don't necessarily battle one another, almost like Lego town but in space with different alien races depending on each other based on their role in society instead of a random, singular alien race trying to take over the humans.
I agree with you, just watching this video, i would to build some of these sets, but some of the parts are way old, I would love to see a remake of these sets, I would buy some of the mechs
@@UnforgivenRonin I heard that the last Bionicle reboot failed to attract new fans, though. The sales from the old nostalgic crowds wasn't big enough to keep the theme going.
This is a commonly stated complaint. But I'm not sure it actually holds up to current reality on the shelves. I think Lego's 2 best selling themes are in house. City and Ninjago. And the new stuff just arriving in stores seems incredible. The Hidden Side looks amazing. And Lego has finally returned to Space, albeit an early time period than Classic, in this years City line. Their City Space sets are everything Classic Space enthusiasts have been begging for.
@@andrewtaylor940 The new Space sets look okay, but might have appeared rather due to the 50 year anniversary of the moon landing, than as a throwback to earlier Space themes. I mean, overall they feel a lot more like "City Space" than "Space Space", if you see what I mean.
"It's been nice hearing from people who owned these ancient sets..." Thanks for making me feel old, Nick! As with so many Space themes, I loved this one and collected all of the sets I could afford...which was two, haha. Gotta love those magnetic stickers with the red/blue effects.
Benny's Spaceship Spaceship SPACESHIP!!! (won't call it anything else) is probably one of my favourite Lego sets of all time. I've not collected anything related to classic space outside of the Exo Suit and some promotional items, but this set feels like a wonderful hybrid of classic theming with modern building sensibilities. It's a set I could tell the designers put passion into. I love it! I just wish we could get more of the spaceships at the end of the second movie aside from the Wyld-Mayhem Star Fighter we just got. Would've loved to have owned that Unikitty fighter. I have to admit, I don't think I've heard of most of these space themes prior to this episode. Though most of them were released before my time, so that's probably why. Fun to go through all of them, as they all look interesting in their own ways. Goes to show how much you can pull from this subject. Also, did that volcano/mountain in the Exploriens box art have eyes? Such a weird yet intriguing setting. 2:39 Is it weird that I thought of the Sonic Boom episode 'Vector the Detector' when I heard that set name. Not that I'm complaining, as it was one of my favourite episodes from that show. It does sound like a cool name for a spaceship.
Explorians one of the few themes I never knew existed. It looks so alien I had always seen those torsos and wondered where they were from. This was an interesting recap sort of video
Looking at this makes me realize how I have so many pieces from this theme show up in my LEGO Star Trek mocs, alongside Mars Mission astros and weapon builds, and God knows what else I've used
In a couple years when your books get more popular (because obviously they will) and Lego was hypothetically interested in making a CCBS or system them of Planet Ripple, would you accept? Keep up the good work.
As a kid, I remember getting an old lego catalogue from my aunt. I spent countless hours just taking in the pages of the Exploriens sets. I always wanted one, though four year old me didn't know that the series had been cut for a few years at that point.
this reminds me that i always wanted to make or get something like the tiniest flying sets here, with the big wiry pieces, basically just smol wings and a seat. small flying vehicles are the cutest thing ever
Spyrius was my jam as a kid. Exploriens, Roboforce... I liked them too, but those Spyrius robot sets were always my first Lego loves. Except... I grew up day dreaming about the Unitron monorail on the backs of the catalogs and finally bought it as an adult. I ended up collecting all 4 of the Unitron line as an adult and started MOCing and recreating other themed sets as Unitron style. One of the highlights of my Unitron collection is that I re-did the Ice Planet Deep Freeze Defender in Unitron colors. Thanks for the episode!
I still miss Life on Mars. I only had a set or two as a kid, but I remember staring at the catalogue page of the theme for hours; imagining just how much fun it'd be.
Rewatching a bunch of lego rewind again and i wanted to say, again, thank you nick. This series got me back into lego, and got me to design my own lego setting. Almost a lego movie-ified version of exo force, that takes place after the existing exo force theme, with various.members of that force joining other factions from throughout lego. Power miners, aqua raiders, heck, one of them joined the Mars mission crew in what im designing. Its still very much a civilian theme though, potentially strangely depending on how you look
Nice to see you at it again Nick! It was nice to look through all these other Space themes, as awkward as the builds can look they have a real charm to them. I also miss the old box-art, with actual props in the foreground using real sets. I'm glad we've got it back in some form with the new City sets, but personally I enjoy the more fantastical outings, and that goes with most sets. Why buy sets of pedestrian things like police cars, construction workers, and teenagers hanging out when you could spy on super-villains as secret agents, go on expeditions for mysterious artifacts and ancient ruins, fight ghosts and monsters, explore the depths of the oceans, or venture into the cosmos or an entire new universe of beings unlike us? On a side note, I have a nice experience today working on the Paranormal Intercept Bus 3000 from Hidden Side. One of the stickers in the set has a lovely reference to a certain theme set in a time before time... : )
I think it’s the same faction evolving over time. Classic is early exploration on the moon and beyond, Futuron is colonisation, and Exploriens are the deep-space “final frontier” scientists.
4:28 I had that exact set for years but only recently reassembled it....man, time flies. I really am glad to see where it all came from. These old Space sets were awesome. And it's OK if you're not that into Space Port, even if I am. Send up space ships to blow up asteroids...that's it.
Still watching your content, still getting great inspiration from your content put towards my own Lego Space Mountain build that I'm building with my son.. not the sound weird but you are My Moment of Zen and help me find my happy place with my Legos as I build them with my son.. can't say thank you enough
I my first set was the 6954 "Alien Fossilizer"!!!! Oh the memories!! It was quickly followed by the Outback mini series "Amazon Crossing" and "Mountain Rescue"
Great episode Nick! I love this series, and although I am sad that it is going, I appreciate the fact that you don’t want to make it repetitive. Thanks for making this series, and I will continue to watch until the ending!
Of the space themes you’ve covered in this video, I would love to see Futuron, M-Tron, and Robo Force return. We don’t see civilian-based space toy-lines anymore, so Futuron would be very interesting today. The concept of a space-rescue team is interesting, so that’s why I’ve always adored M-Tron. And then there’s Robo Force. Two words: Space. Mechas. Seeing that concept today with all of the new pieces would be lovely. As for the other themes covered, I don’t care for them much. They feel like retreads of other Classic Space themes, but kinda worse. If I had to rank all of the Classic Space subthemes from best to worst, it’d probably go like this: -Blacktron 2 -Blacktron 1 -Space Police 1 -M-Tron -Ice Planet -Roboforce -Futuron/Classic Space -Exploreans -Spyrus -Insectoids -Space Police 2 -Unitron -Alien
You do have a point but I love you narration in the video since it gave more details on the Space theme and heck the The LEGO Movie Benny's SPACESHIP SPACESHIP set looks awesome.
I found your channel today, and I absolutely love the Lego rewind series! It is very nostalgic and brings back the happy memories when I had so much fun building and playing with Lego. Will you ever make a Lego Rewind episode on the Pirate theme and the Castle theme you can find in the Nintendo DS game Lego Battles? I remember those themes along with Lego Battles being a pretty big part of my childhood, along with Lego Indiana Jones and Bionicle. Man, those were the good old days. Right now I wish I could go back.
The Exploriens Starship was one of my very first Lego sets when I was a kid (I think my parents got it at a garage sale, believe it or not). I LOVE this set! Its sturdy, the variable geometry is cool, and the set is just gigantic by Lego standards. I have so many fond memories of building this set, taking it apart to build something else, and then building it again just for the heck of it. Unfortunately most of the white elements have faded to a dirty yellow (a common problem for older white bricks I've noticed) but the rest of the pieces have held up pretty well. I still have the original box somewhere. More recently I started tracking down the other Exploriens sets on Ebay. I think I'm only missing a couple now. There's just something about this theme that really has resonated with me over the years. One of these days I'll rebuild all of the Exploriens sets I own and put them together for the first time.
CHIMA EPISODE HYPE!! That was probably the second original theme i properly “grew up” with and honestly the fire vs ice wave holds up decently in my opinion. i hear good things about the first wave but i was still a Ninjago die hard at that point so i only got a few of the small sets. ahhh... to be in 2013 with my current LEGO budget... well either way i can’t wait to hear your thoughts :) oh yeah, classic space... i like the references to the old themes but most of it was wayyyy before my time (excepting the lego movie sets in that vein). i love seeing MOCs in the style but it just seems so dated compared to modern builds with their curves and such. don’t get me wrong, it has it’s charm and is totally iconic in its own way.
the new 2024 space is a move in the right direction:friendly life, exploring, roles and not entirely city. hope they would go further after the new cmf line
Ah... one more trek through Lego Space. This was nice. I really like the next city space sets too, namely because of the use off real & planed NASA missions and tech as the base. I think I'll pick those up, and if these so well maybe we'll final get that more exploration based space theme you've been wanting since Episode 1.
I had one of those red and black sparius robots with the robot mini figure ... it was great i played with it quite a bit. Man if only id have known about the monorail set from that line ... ah well
Im not a space guy but I still like the classic sets and I agree with you on Mars Mission. Also I think the 2019 space sets do many things right. Now add some friendly peaveful aliensets and this will be great
Watching back through your whole series, and getting to this episode I find myself really wishing that Space Engineers had options for bright neon coloured glass and more ariels, antenna, and greebly bits. It would be great to try and emulate these factions styles in a videogame which is essentially "Lego in space" for adults. :D
What? It was actually the very first space theme with modern minifigs (lasting from late 1978 to 1987, when it was replaced with Futuron and Blacktron). There's been quite a few throwbacks and easter eggs referencing the theme, however.
Given that Christian Faber drew the slizer faceplates and roborider boxart, and how long he's been working with ADVANCE and LEGO by extension, I wonder if he drew the exploriens boxart backgrounds?
Man that Metallic green is awesome, shame they stopped using it. I much prefer it to be brought back over that.. Magenta? they brought back for the Lego Movie 2
3:08 Aw, the Saucer Scout! That was the first set I'd ever had. I'd had more than one of it, too, because I'd end up losing most of the pieces. Honestly... I think the '90s was the best era of Lego toys. EDIT: I had the wrong name for that set, but the set I originally named was one I got later in the decade.
This is how I see the space timeline: 1.All the Town/ City space 2. Agents 3. Alien Conquest 4. Galaxy Squad 5. Ultra Agents Many years later; 6. Space Police 3 7. The original run is space till its last set in the 90's/ 2000
"..most of it."?.. what is that (here we go) rolling-black bodied-crystal blue bellied-sublyme doubletoooth&digit-octogonal headed (whew) "IT" called? that newer in City set IS a return to form it's 6wheeler excavator, with (ha) drone, and the tapering boxed bottom juxtaposed by the rotating circular(ovoid?) stove shaped cabin? heck yeah, good stuff bud
