5:45 I love the olive green color chosen, I know it's not really going to be seen, but the super structure of the space shuttle was actually this color of olive green, you can see it in the landing gear, which I've personally seen on the space shuttle Enterprise, It''s a very small detail but something I really like about this set!

As I read more and more comments saying that, it might have been a consideration by the designer and not necessarily because he likes the color ahah! My bad!
@otm646
@otm646 2 года назад
To add to your comment, that common green you see in aerospace applications is a zinc chromate primer applied before final paint. Some interior spaces that don't receive additional paint are left in that green for corrosion protection. If you ever cross over into the scale modeling side of youtube, you'll see how much the aircraft and aerospace modelers love that color.

you can rotate Hubble 45 degrees longitudinally so the 4 closed appendages clear the sides of the walls, there are two indentations you build near the back at the ground so it fits snuggly there, that is part of the concept of the model since Hubble was known to be specifically designed to fit the payload of the Space Shuttle

I can't get my head around the buldge and exessive "pristine roundedness", especially the print (yay its a print). The Shape and position of the windows have always been one of the most iconic features of the shuttle. The nose is not perfect but honestly I am not sure how they could have made it better. Really tough spot and I think they likely made it as best they could without increasing the scale of the design or making a lot of custom expensive pieces. A fitting tribute to the nostalgia of the spaceshuttles. The shuttle appeared to show promise to make space travel less expensive and more routine, although launch costs of the space shuttles never dipped below $23,000 per kilogram and it proved more dangerous than previous rockets, there's just something about spaceshuttles that evokes a feeling of the " golden age " of space exploration. The LEGO set itself appears of good quality.

'The Dream is Alive' IMAX) and are manually raised in the OPF after landing while the shuttle is on jack stands.

Thank you for the great review, can't wait to get my hands on this beauty! Definitely one of the highlights of 2021 so far :) Interesting insight with the odd colors inside the set. I had a theory that designers are encouraged to use pieces in specific colors in non-visible places to support a more optimal manufacturing process, but apparently it isn't the case then? About the "gold bars", they are the solar panels in storage position. They can be deployed and retracted around a central drum like a roller-blind :)
@TiagoCatarino
@TiagoCatarino 3 года назад
I got that after watching the designer video! At the time of the recording I really had no idea what the rods were! Yeah, as for the odd colors it really is to help people avoid building errors! Some designers use the chance to include cool colors for you all! I still remember dearly when I did the Ship In a Bottle and tried to use as much teal as I could inside the build since it was a fairly recent color!

Great review. The overall sculpting is pretty good. This is the first Lego shuttle that captures the long taper of the nose, and the two "shoulders" on either side of the flight deck. One disappointment to me is I would rather have had landing gear doors than automatic gear deployment. Still looks like a must-buy.

Great looking set. However, compared to the Saturn V which comes without any stickers, the MSRP price tag is too high to my mind. At least the Discovery writing and NASA logo could have been prints. The white stickers do not match the color of the white bricks. Will wait for a special offer, because despite the many stickers, overall this is one of the best sets Lego has released in recent times. Regarding the different colors inside, yes, they help beginners to avoid building mistakes. But this one is designated as an 18+ set! Come on, in the 80ies and 90ies and early 2000s there were no blue pins in technic sets etc. To me using these colors feels like a "remnant sale" to optimize profit. I don't like this conduct, but have to live with it. The pros of this set outweigh the cons.
@TiagoCatarino
@TiagoCatarino 3 года назад
Some LEGO fans will buy this as their first LEGO set. Even for me will all the colored bricks inside I still make mistakes. Having worked for LEGO I can tell you there is no such thing as placing parts inside to optimize profit, designers really do it to avoid people making building mistakes.

@@TiagoCatarino I rather assume most designers have no other chance nowadays, even if they wanted to, because the color coding (especially think of Lego Technic) is a company standard they have to stick to. In the past, and here I am thinking of my youth in the 1980ies and 1990ies, things were really different. The building process was more challenging in many ways, which I liked when I was a child. I failed sometimes, but then I corrected my mistakes. But yeah, I can understand that Lego wants to release appealing products that are easy to build without frustrating beginners...i.e. products for the broad masses. As a repeat customers however, especially if a set is designated as 18+, I feel subchallenged. At least the turquise wedge plates in the Shuttle wings are not necessary...Just my opinion...thanks for your reply.

You said this is the biggest Shuttle Lego had made, but it looks smaller than the Technic Space Shuttle to me. Yes I have one 😆👍

I still have my 8480, which in my opinion is still one of the nicest sets ever made

The olive green for the structure is actually based off the color of the real shuttle's internal structure! The guys over at collect space interviewed the lead designed for this set and brought it up.

I just recently got the ISS and LOVE IT! I need this along with the lunar lander and Saturn V. I've had the Curiosity Mars Rover for a few years and I'm crazy about these newer NASA sets!

While the NASA and USA references are evident why no Canada Arm decaling. Likewise Lego has a women in space set of Characters but no Canadian women in the set. Canadians have a legitimate part to these historical sets.

@Tiago, it is amazing to see how you gain maturity from this review to the Concorde. What a journey within two years !

As ex-aircraft serviceman I believe olive green is related to standard aeronautical color of fuselage like I have seen on Boeing, Airbus

You are correct about the landing gear on the shuttle, it didn't have the capability to retract even on the real deal.

Olive Green because thats the original color of structural elements inside the space shuttle like bulkheads, airfoil structure. so the structural part of the model is also true to the original

Tiago, very funny how you stated about LEGO doing more custom pieces for the front nose. 10 seconds later you describe all the new pieces, you haven't seen before. I will say this, I have the 10231 Space Shuttle from 2011 and was going to pass on this one. BUT your video convinced me otherwise , DAMN IT LEGO ! Tiago is working overtime for you! ( Awesome set - good, clean video).

You should try to get your hands on the Enterprise NCC-1701-D from German company Bluebrixx! It's a childhood dream come true.

I built this one recently and I ended up modifying those display stands cuz I shouldn't trust the stability of them at all so I used extra bricks and plates to attach it to the bottom of the shuttle and then I put the whole thing on one big baseplate for more stability

This is the first lego set I've ever bought..., and I made a mistake x0, the back wheels don't pop out :'(..., even so I'm really happy :D, and I enjoy watching your videos while removing pieces from the model one by one xD (yep I'm not the kind of person that boughts something just to display it).
