I honestly hate printed on waist capes, backpacks, pauldrons. it takes away so much from the look of figures. i hope the 501st specialist battlepack has real waist capes and pauldrons if they're going to be needed.
This is a really good sign for potential new clone troopers, because if they’re willing to add three legends clone troopers to a set like this clearly they would easily make more 212th troopers or other legions. Especially since a shock trooper would only require a slight recolor and torso design change. I’m very hopeful of the new at-te having nee clones, or maybe it’s just wishful thinking.
@@JalenS-th6tt yeah your somewhat right. These Lego clones are most likely based off of the 187th legion which is legends. However mace windu did have a clone unit in canon which is not named and seen in Clone Wars S7
Honestly a very solid set. I never expected a very large tank and the one we got is more than serviceable and provides a lot of playability, and accessibility. the figures really make the set worth it in my opinion. The mace windu is amazing and the 187th troopers are amazing. Well done on legos part tbh.
I did not believe until the very end that LEGO would do such a set with not canon stuff , but now that Ryan even did a review on it, I guess that it’s a real thing…
The 187th legion is canon and it’s based on the legends comics not what hasbro did. Do you even hear yourself? Before Disney came around legends was always considered canon.
@@triscuitsarebad Anymore? Damn, how much is Disney paying you? It is and always has been canon. Legends has been canon longer than Disney has owned Star Wars. Maybe if you quit chewing on Disney’s boot, you’d realize that.
@@hellothere700 the original at-ot retailed for 250 and it came with a whole dropship… if they just did an at-ot there wld be no reason for it to be over 200, even with inflation
@@nickter745thebold8 All Terrain Open Transport. Think AT-TE with most of the armor removed, flattened, and with rows of seats on top for troop transport.
Since I don’t own either of the previous versions, I’ll definitely pick this up. Decent design, I think a sticker on the sides would go a long way (even though I hate stickers), but the figure selection is solid. That Mace Windu is glorious
@@StoneUnturned I did! Bought it a few months ago and I’m quite happy with it. The build is quick and the figures rock. 2017’s is probably a better design, but I don’t think you’d feel bad if you got the new one. If you could find it on sale that would probably be ideal but I don’t feel robbed having bought it full price
I think the reason for the bigger bulkier design was due to the backlash from the 2017 version which was flatter and sleeker, and people preferred the 2009 big bulkier one, so LEGO compromised and merged the two styles together here
@@bruh-ul4xc I was thinking this too, I think that would for a lot of people really convince them to accept the build as fully serviceable. I still love the build itself personally tho, so I don't care either way
I love how the Lego clones are becoming homogeneous. They’ve nailed the formula now, they’ve got the face and skin tone nailed, they’ve got the perfect style and they have the the helmet moulds. I don’t think they need to improve further than this, any more improvements like arm printing would just add unnecessary cost. Leave stuff like arm printing to named clones/commanders.
They already did that before back around 2013-15. The Turbo Tank Clone, the Z95 Headhunter 501st trooper’s, the 212 battle pack, etc. all had a consistent style, just like the old 2005 era clones with the old helmets were all consistent with each other.
A very solid set in my opinion! I feel like a lot of people judged it too early coming from that first picture, as now since we have way better pictures I think it’s a really good looking build! Fantastic MINIFIGURES and amazing Boxart! Definitely going to be picking it up!
I honestly love this set a lot. It’s a large tank that I can put more Minifigures into, and the clones look excellent. And again, 6 Minifigures in a $40 set is absolutely amazing. Can’t wait to see this compared to the other two models!
The build might not be the best but the minifigure selection is one of the best. 3 new clones, Macr Windu with arm printing and 2 battle droids is amazing.
I bought the mandalore dual last week, and it came with frosted lightsaber blades. I'm glad to see that Lego is continuing it and it's not just a one-off thing
The figs in this set are truly an incredible selection! I'm coming around on the design too. I spent a lot of my childhood playing the 2005 Battlefront II so I'm extremely nostalgic for the super angular look. I've hardly touched the new Battlefront because I already have perfection so I had forgotten that the fighter tank got pretty smoothed out and of course that's what Lego would be basing it off of.
This is an excellent playset for Lego's target demographic, but a kind of mediocre display model for collectors. Reminds me a lot of how earlier Star Wars sets were made with larger elements and a strong focus on figures. Overall, it's a really nice addition to the lineup.
Back helmet printing and dual molded printed arms with the top being the accent color and the bottom white and a spare hairpiece and we have the absolute perfect clone minifigure.
The set looks better with a different angle. The first photo we got made it look like a juniors set but from different angles and seeing it in someone’s hands makes it look miles better
I gotta say, despite the nose being the only kinda ugly flaw about it, I really like that they took the time to compromise on things that were liked about the older models and basically found a way to merge both models of the tanks from different battlefront games. And it's also a nice touch that they paid attention to the "Airborne trooper" being a commander. I think this is a sign they're listening a bit more.
I really really like this one. I don’t understand the hatred of the build, I think it looks good(even though it’s not 100% accurate, idk how it could be fixed). And of course the the minifigures are amazing!
I might modify this one with the 2017? One or whatever year the previous one was. I think the 2 can really be used to modify eachother to possibly make it better
FOR THE PEOPLE IRKED ABOUT THE LATCH NOT CLOSING COMPLETELY: you can modify it by removing 1 of the 2 latch pieces on the top of the opening, it actually lets the nose piece latch onto it and closes really nicely
The build has really grown on me since I first saw it. I still wish the middle was shorter but given that the design in universe is inconsistent and it allows for more room it's not too bad.
This set is like the antithesis of the gunship, great minifigures with a lackluster build as opposed to the gunship’s great build with lackluster minifigures
Personally I really like this set. Sure it's a mix of two versions (whether that was intentional or not) but it's still a great build and a perfect playset
love how they used that long lightsaber hilt on the hatch i feel like that piece is very underused and hard to find sometimes. and also works really well for double bladed lightsabers
Honestly put together it looks way better than I initially thought. While not perfect it's still pretty good and I will definitely be picking up two after watching this, maybe more for army building.
I think this set is based on like 'Phase I' Republic Fighter Tank (TX-13O Saber-class fighter tank, if you will). It's bigger, flat sides + it also have antennas. The closest model is not from any Battlefront, but actually a concept art picture.
6 minifigs for $40 has become an unheard commodity in Lego Star Wars now...? I'm assuming we all forgot that the 501st battlepack came with 6 figures, retailing for $29.99 + has a higher piece count.. either way, I'll still be copping this set regardless lmao
I feel like one stud lower on height would make a great diferrence on it's look, or at least lower cannons would make it look lees bulkier and "back sloped". With the minifigs i have nothing to say, they make the set worth by themselves
Though not as big as the first one, this tank is a great upgrade from the last one. Incredible to see such a magnificent minifigure selection in a 40$ set. I hope we can see more of this in the AT-TE in August, having a good amount of troops (maybe an accurate driver/pilot), a Jedi Knight and droids to give a nice balance of good vs. bad.
instead of battle droids there should be more clones. The minifigs should be: Jedi Bob, P2 Cody, 2 P2 212th troops and 3 P2 plain white clones. If they want battle droids they should make a droid battlepack to go with the set, but I think they can do a lot more if they don't have droids in the set.
The reason this Mace Windu has arm printing and the UCS GS version doesn't is because the gunship version is based on Ep.2 where he didn't have the armor on his forearms, whereas this is based on Clone Wars.
Except it isn’t. On LEGO’s official shop website, it says not once but *twice* that the Gunship is from the Battle of Geonosis in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” It said that at release, and it says that to this day. I would argue you’re correct, but I don’t want to hear people reasoning on behalf of LEGO with the Gunship, because they themselves can’t get anything straight.
This is by far my favorite Lego SW set. I love the clone commander, i love the troopers and Windu, the tank is a great vehicle design wise (since i usually focus on vehicle or duel sets) perfect colors, sleekness and weight, plus super fun to build. I almost want to get another.
Didn’t like this set at first but, the more I see it the more I like. Glad I got it. And finally lego 187th clones! It’s crazy who lego made these clones, they are one of my favs legions.
I actually like this tank design better than I thought I would. Yeah it's not perfect but it's not as bad as I originally thought when I saw the original leaked photos. I will pick up 3 or 4, 2 to display, one to steal minifigures form for my minifig display and one to keep NIB
Man I really wish they'd make a battle pack with standard phase 2 clones. The 501st and 187th are nice (even though this technically isn't a battlepack) but I want to do army building and there isn't any way to get standard phase 2 clones for cheap because of how few sets they're in.
Ask MandR: Since we seem to be going round in circles with repeated sets and seem to dwell in the Original Trilogy so much, could we not get another B-Wing? Maybe the red one from Rebels?
I'm impressed Mandr was able to obtain the set before LEGO even revealed it! the people at LEGO probably aren't to happ. Edit: 8:30 MAND NO HARD "R" ON "CLANKER"
I really like the tank tbh, I'm not too fussed whether it's accurate to the games/shows or not because I still think it's a good build. The only think I would have changes about the set is to swap out the b1's for B2 super battle droids and finally bring them back after so long. Nonetheless I'm glad to see Lego is going in a good direction with clones, first the 501st battle pack and now this which I'd also say falls into the same category except with mace windu instead of a 4th clone
Personally I don't think it is as bad as you made it out to be. I can understand the design discrepancies of the tank. but I don't think it looks that bad personally and the 187th troopers along with Mace Windu obviously are a very good addition to the set.
I guess that this set is taking place on Geonosis during the second war for Geonosis. That's my only guess from the first look on the box art. I don't remember what phase of armor have clones had, but anyway
It's fine that it's not 100% accurate to me when it's a play set. If it was UCS or 18+ I would care much more about the accuracy. As long as it looks good it is fine. Plus it has amazing figure selection for the price. It's almost like LEGO is actually trying to make their customers happy for some reason. I don't understand it. There must be something weird going on....
i'm actually way more disappointed with the interior than the actual look of the set, the tank looks good to me but the fact you cant close the hatch with a minifigure inside is kinda lame
I just got this set yesterday and it’s my first clone wars set so I was very exited to get my first B1 battle droids and clone troopers. Also that lightsaber piece for the top hatch I think could be very useful for a Darth Maul handle.
I have the 2017 version of this tank but I must say that I'm very interested in getting this new version. I know that it's not super accurate to the model(s) in Battlefront but I really enjoy it as a playset. The Minifigures are great and the tank has a pretty good size. The last tank had two less Minifigures, was smaller and cost $30. So I also think that the $40 price point isn't that high. Still not cheap of course but if I compare it to the last model from 5 years ago, the price isn't that bad at all. I don't look at the piece count that much. I'm interested in the value that I get. More pieces doesn't equal a higher value. Definitely better than the 2020 AAT. 😂

I can't imagine so. I don't see much reason to double up on Clone Troopers like that given how many variants they need to put out. Any immediate reissue is taking away from a spot that should have a Regular/Shock/212th/Kashyyyk/ect... we haven't had in years. Looking at you Clone Commander in 40558.
@@MandRproductions a modern day remake of 7655 would be awesome. Could give 75280 a run for its money if it were to include 4 different P2 clone troopers 👀
This is like what the 501st could've been. Its a battlepack with a much nicer build then battlepacks usually have and I'd rather have a bunch of tanks then a bunch of inaccurate bikes and at-rts
Newer Lego sets do have often a wow-effect when building. When I assemble a set, I am always thinking, if I am able to to make such set by myself. But this fighter tank looks honestly very simple. I used to build like this as a ten year old (the hinge for the cockpit piece, the way how the weapons are attached, the usage of the big triangle pieces). In my opinion the simplistic design is very disappointing. I don't buy a set when it does remember me of how I would build as a child.
Hey Ryan when this releases you should get a second one and try to the fix the cockpit area and improve the design with twice the parts, this would be a nice addition to your boba fett’s palace and dark trooper hallway set mod series
The tank model being in-between is no different than the clones being non-canon imo. Just like real life military, star wars and clone wars there are TONS of vehicle variatiants, tried upgrades, in-between models, modular modules. Star Wars Battlefront 2 EA made and recannonized like 60 things just for the Felucia map update they had to ask and go get permission for. I don't think there should be an artificial date where nothing new can be added to Star Wars especially legends stuff
Not a fan of this one. The build looks absolutely horrendous, it looks like an 8 year-olds moc of the vehicle. Figs are great but 262 pieces for 40$ is very overpriced.
Fun fact: The Republic Fighter Tank first appeared in the original Star Wars: The Clone Wars video game back in 2002. It’s the vehicle you use for most of the game.
In Star Wars Legends, the 2nd Airborne Company was a part of the 212th Attack Battalion of the 7th Sky Corps of the Third Systems Army (yeah that’s a lot of segmentation) The 2nd Airborne Company was made up of clone paratroopers. However in Star Wars Canon, there is no separation of the 2nd Airborne Company as a group and the clone paratrooper as a variant trooper, resulting in the “Airborne trooper”. I think most people don’t know of the past separation, which is why we have this clone commander who is also a paratrooper, and might cause confusion under the assumption he is an “airborne trooper”.
I hope LEGO keeps doing this $30.00 - $40.00, maybe $50.00 Star Wars sets with insane minifigures such as the 75280 “501st Legion Clone Troopers” and this.
Idk, I think this set is great. Tank might look a little funky but it's larger than the 2017 one, yet less pieces. AND we get 6 minifigs. All that for the same price as the last one. It's a steal
This one is based on the "2-M Saber-class repulsor tank" which was only used by the empire.. The one from 2017 is based on the "TX-130" which was used by the republic and later the empire.. it is also the predecessor to the "2-M"
