There are missing parts on the 1999 model, it came with a small ''Train'' thing to carry the tools with the Tech guy. It may not change the scores but it would bring more playability and value to the set. It also helps for display and roleplay.

I actually like the helmets on the 2018 X-Wing, they may not look great, but I still play with my sets, so those helmets make them much better for playability!

Re-watched the original trilogy recently. The rebel pilots really did have chonky helmets. Porkins was the only one who made the helmet look in proportion.

i personally want to say the 2012 is my favorite look but the no play features really makes me want to say another one is better, i do think that the 2018’s wingspan looks really short and that’s what kills it for me

That Biggs darklighter character from the 1999 set is the best character ever lol. There is something about him and I can't explain what but he's perfect

My 2 favorite x-wings are, the 1999 version, and the 2012 version.

2012 in my opinion is my favorite. 2006 was my first X-wing and Lego set in general so it's great too. With that said I can see why I don't like the others as much since they have gray in them

I felt like the original 1999 version was disrespected in this video. He didn't even include the hanger equipment carrier which very much added to the play ability. It came with six tools for the mechanic which could easily be customized as well. To include Yoda's hut but not the equipment cart is a big oversight. Also the original should be given a little more love. For being the first it's very crisp and clean plus unique in it's coloring.

I have the X-wing of 2012 and still in good look, and still more Legos I can't wait to see, and to buy some.

I bought 2 big box's of lego for £105 in a car boot sale' as I could see it had a load of star wars parts in it. Anyway after spending over a month trying to figure out what sets was in it and building them, we ended up with 17 star wars ships nearly all the big original sets and close to 150 star wars figures. My son was very happy with them :)

As someone who owns the 2012 model i can say that you forgot something in the playability section : the 2 little torpedoes beneath the cockpit (not flick-fire missiles but small things you can detach and kind of role play with)

2018 used to be my favorite until I realized 2012 is just slightly better.

It’s so interesting to look back at early Star Wars Lego sets. You can really see that they were just built by designers messing around with bricks. I remember them looking slick and exciting, but by modern Lego standards they look so homemade, because brick/part options were way limited. Builds always have exposed studs everywhere, which became more and more covered up with time. Back then it was rare that they’d implement a unique piece unless it was unavoidable, like the X-Wing and Tie Fighter windshields. Today, there are hundreds of special little pieces that serve super specific purposes. If I was a modern designer trying to recreate something in Lego, the possibilities would drive me crazy. Standards are probably much higher too, because with time and creativity you can really utilize all the special parts that have built up over the years to do a very close recreation.

I was not even a year old when the 2004 came out, but when I was little my older brother had it, and one of my oldest memories was playing with it, so that takes the cake

My favorite one is the 2012 version because it's the only one I have(I never got the 2018 because life) and the first Black/Gray TIE-fighter also came the same year which is my opinion the best one(cockpit-wise/mainly personal preference)

the 7140 set came with a side build and the 2018 bulky helmets are actually the only ones movie acurate as the helmets where bulky in the film but look weird because the old ones just look familiar.Also the junior x wing set didnt get a mention 75235

The 2012 set was my second star wars set and I remember playing my own story. Then I pretended the ship crashed and I never rebuild it again. Note that the crash happened like a week after I got the set Lmao and it remained in pieces and still is.

memories I had that 1999 x wing and the only issue was kids and life would love to have it again. props to you still having one.

Honestly the best part of the 2018 model for me was that they finally made the back of the ship look somewhat accurate and at the time lego had a bad habit of not implementing the astromech droids the correct way so it was refreshing to see it correct again!

Just so you know, on the 2018 model, the part on the bottom that closes the wings is there so that they close automatically if it lands. Its not just a weird and pointless addition.

I think Lego needs to try again with the dual molded helmets...I know they looks weird to us but they do round out the head like a helmet really does

Playability - 1999 version provided alternative builds in the instructions which all the other sets lacked. Along with a comic book story.

Love seeing all these X-wings side-by-side, thanks for the comparison. Also, I hate to be that guy but...you have the engine intakes backwards on the 2018 x-wing.

Am I the only one who actually likes the new pilot helmets? The actual props are very bulky helmets, so the proportions aren't all that off.

Ultimately the helmet mold from the most recent XWing doesn’t up being more accurate to the screen prop used in A New Hope, as the helmets in the movie were very bulky. I think ultimately the only reason why the newer mold gets so much hate is because it’s just such a dramatic change from what Lego fans have gotten used to since 1999. So even if it is objectively more accurate to what it’s trying to emulate it’s all going to receive a lot of hate to do the nostalgia factor. This is the same exact thing that happened with the new Darth Vader mold that came out a few years back. Everyone raked it over the coals when it first came out saying how it looks completely ridiculous, and now it’s accepted that it looks better than the old molds and it has Become the standard.

When I was a kid I almost never used the playability features that were built into sets. I found that the best sets as toys were the ones with the sturdiest designs. I had the 2012 model, and it had extremely flimsy wings that tended to fall apart when you opened and closed the sets, to the point where I used superglue to try and hold it together. That made it a worse toy than the lack of missiles.

I don’t know if you realized but the thing on the bottom of the 2018 X-Wing that is used to close the wings is a playability feature. It’s so when you’re swooshing it around you can land the X-Wing and the wings will close.

What about the 2019 one?

for me, the 2006 version will always be my favourite. It's the only one I had and I will never forget the amount of joy I felt when I unwrapped it on my birthday in 2008! :) I loved the fact I had Han Solo and Princess Leia and Chewbacca, as I'd never had them before then, and the X-Wing is such an iconic vehicle in the movies. Honestly my favorite is the 1999 X wing if my favorite, mainly because it looks rather classic or classy.

I picked up the 2006 model in 2014 for 60, love the designs where they merge the obvious lego ascetic with an accurate representation

I have sooo much nostalgia for the 2006 x wing. I stupidly gave away my lego when I started high school back in 2012 :'( Might have to buy back the ol 6212.
