How is THIS the only R2 droid the Jang gets that does not have a wobbly head print? Of all the ones in his collection, this clowny McDonald’s droid will be the best printed one. hahaha

I appreciate Lego emphasizing the Lego part of Lego Star Wars. Lego is supposed to be about the creativity of it, being able to choose which wings each ship has really allows for some lego creativity that was sorely lacking from Lego Star Wars, I think

TIE wings probably used so many pieces because the play feature requires kids to be forceful with the wings, pulling them off and pushing them back on. So the wings have to be extra sturdy.

If they made another set like this with compatible removable "wings", a Y-Wing + TIE interceptor sounds obvious enough, and would make for interesting mash-ups

Unpopular opinion, but I prefer when there is no cockpit for the droid and they flat top it with a spinny tile and you just attach the droid head on it. It’s always made it feel more playable to have the droid spin around

The ship mixing is very reminiscent of the Legends concept of "uglies" - scrap ships made from mixing other ship parts. Like a TIE with wings from a y-wing

im not a big lego star wars fan but this set is just so charming to me. the play feature is so simple but it reminds me so much of the weird fusion sets we all tried to make as kids. if this set goes on sale, it might be my first lego star wars set in a long time

even though some of the proportions on the ships aren’t quite right for me as a grownup nerd, i think this set is a real winner, especially think it’s gonna be a hit with kids. first off, you get an x-wing and a tie fighter in the same box, those are essential for any young star wars fan’s collection, but the wings that come off and can be swapped to either ship opens up a lot of play opportunities. blasting the wings off of ties has always been an important bit of fun for star wars play, no matter who’s makin the plastic, and doing it with the x-wing too is gonna lead to a lot of fun imaginary space battles. swapping stuff around is also something i liked to do with my lego when i was younger, and these are pretty dramatic swaps, and the combinations can also be used as a jumping off point to learn about other parts of the star wars universe, even the eu, this is the kinda thing that’s gonna make kids into lifelong fans i think.

The nice thing about LEGO releasing a new X-Wing every 2 or 3 years is that I can skip this set and in no time at all pick up a new single-pack X-Wing with all of these aesthetic improvements and a functioning wing mechanism.

Honestly I think this set is great, this is probably my favorite X-Wing to date and the mash-up feature is awesome, however my big problem with this set is that THIS will take the X-Wing and Tie Fighter spot on shelves for the next year or so I just think that the previous versions (the $50 X wing and %40 Tie fighter) were just amazing sets for people who want to get into Lego Star Wars and for their price they had great value, its an iconic ship at a reasonable price so that someone could buy it to try out if they like Lego or not. Compared to this set´s $110, its just a lot harder to swallow than $60 and $50 resepctively

Even without the wing swap option I think these are good ships. A good scale for kids to play with without giving up the cool details that make us love these ships.

The fact that the spring loaded shooters on the tie fighter are in the wings, is so that if the wings swap, the x-wing (but with tie fighter wings) still has shooters. 🤷‍♂️

Personally I really like this set. The tie fighter looks so good compared to most of the past tie fighters (which might be a hot take). For me the cockpit really matters and I really like the proportions of the window compared to the ret of the body of the tie fighter. The back is the best it's ever been too. When it comes to the x-wing though, it looks good from the front, but I think the proportions of the back are a bit off to me. In the back I feel like the engines are too far from the body. Maybe having the body be a bit wider in the back would have helped, though I am pretty sure it would've interfered with the X-Tie/Tie-wing gimmick thing. I also think the basic hinges for its wings are a poor choice due to them not being rigid enough.

When the astromech is inserted, I think it looks genuinely cool. If the legs could somehow be dual-molded to have white bottoms, it would be an awesome figure.

In the battle of yavin, R2’s shoulders are clearly well above the fuselage. Only in Empire did they make him flush to the body. So R2 here and the 2021 X wing IS accurate (particular to 2021 as that one is based on Yavin)

The amount of pieces in the tie wings totally helps with the weight of adding those wings to the X wing body. Love it

I've been watching your videos for years now and I've always loved them, keep up the good work.

The X-wing with the 1 TIE wing kinda gives off a knightly vibe. Like the laser cannons are the lance and the TIE wing is the shield.

The folks who complain about inflation increases really diminish the impact of those occasions that LEGO ACTUALLY price gouges.

I hear that B5/Starfury shout out and appreciate it.

Since Lego white pieces change color when exposed to sunlight for long duration, I guess the new Lego white pieces are already yellowed to slow down the color changing.

I love the reviews on this channel, I just wish it would diversify and review more than just Star Wars and car models.

The wing swapped ships remind me of ships from No Mans Sky, and the way the tie fighters panels come off I’m reminded of an old toy I had as a kid of one where you pressed a button and they would spring out like the thing exploded. Funny set, would be cool to see an expansion with Y wings and other Tie fighter types.

They both have an interesting style I like that mech cockpit piece on the back goes very nicely

I would've loved this as a kid! The closest I could get was swapping the panels between my Kenner Darth Vader TIE with the regular white TIE Fighter.

i honestly think these are the best x-wing and tie fighter they have done, i love smaller but still detailed ships. easier for play and take up less space

i realized while watching your video that the part swapping gimmick could also act beautifully as a "damage" gimmick, thinking the old tie toys that the wings could be blown off of!

this is about the closest we'll get to an official Chirdaki set. in the old EU (now Legends), Twileks developed their own Ugly starfighter, a TIE ball cockpit with X-wing S-foils on rotator cuffs.

The X-Wing looks really nice. I like the amount of dark red. I do however hope to one dark have a light grey X-Wing like the classic one from a long long ago. If the X-Wing was grey it would look great with the TIE wings.

I am not a fan of using any rubber bands. Bringing back the hinge joint hardens back to the first X wing. Great review Jang as usual. You get right to the point. It is very much appreciated.

Although the wing swapping feature is interesting, Lego will need to do some more sets like this to make it work with this one. They also work as stand alone sets, it would be great to get more of them at a reasonable price as well.

I was gonna grab this set, but personally this tie fighter cockpit section looks better and more proportional but with the play function. This tie fighter adds atleast 3 times the sticker count of the previous tie fighter.

I own both previous play-scale ships, but I gotta say the small improvements on display here have me wanting to pick this set up and use parts from my other X-Wing to turn this one into Red Five. I love the new nose, sturdy wing cannons, and better landing gear on the X (and the lack of stickers on curved parts that have trouble sticking, a problem on the last X), and the new TIE canopy looks much nicer to the eye. Hopefully the series continues and gives us more updates to other craft!

I continue to be amused that the X-wing fuselage with TIE wings version technically has no engines.

Astromech R0-NLD. A goofy but charming lego X-wing is the 1999 version which I had as a kid. Even this X-wing would be nice as a kid and the premise is fun 😊

I personally think it would have been even cooler if they recolored them to be a light side TIE fighter and a dark side X-Wing. This would have been their only real chance to do something like that and it would have continued the theme of everything being tuned on its head. But as they are I think they look great. It would be really awesome if they made a Y-Wing and TIE bomber combo set in this same style so you could mix and match all 4. But I agree that they should definitely do it sooner rather than later. It would suck if that came out and the first one was no longer available to buy.

Honestly not that bad when you consider it’s basically slightly beefed up versions of the 2021 X-Wing and TIE Fighter that were modded to combine with one another. Bonus points for focusing on mostly generic characters, too.

The only amount of stuff difference to me with the previous tie xwing pair is that this has 2 less minifigs. This set could have used a mechanic or engineer of some sort

You know, I bet the reason the wings from the tie fighter are so heavy is so that it does stand up when the wings are connected to the X-Wing

I like the moving landing gears instead of removing them for the flight display and the wing switching mechanics... Even if the X-wing Tie fighter looks blursed.

The only thing that would’ve irked me as a kid is that the TIE’s engines stay will the pod instead of the radiator/solar panel/wing assemblies. Swapping the wings gives the TIE both sets of engines and leaves the X-wing out to dry😂

If I'm correcy the rebel pilot's helmet design is not a helmet from outside Rebuild the Galaxy. The helmet has a 3x1 LEGO brick icon on the middle bridge bit, is why I say that.

Bring in the Y-wing engines, same compatibility...maybe some more interesting combinations. Not sure what else that wouldn't just be TIE style add-ons

12:10 a little detail I see with the Rebel pilot helmet is that the center of the pattern seems to have the bottom of a Lego 2x4 brick printed into it! Ooooooorrrrr it could be the top of a 1x3 brick, depending on your point of view ;)

That X-Wing is actually pretty nice, much nicer than it deserves to be. I like the use of the angled pieces on the sides of the nose, and this model does not have the awkward and obvious controls for the wings like the last one. But I think I'll wait for the next X-Wing model, which presumably will not have the removable wings feature.

Whats funny is the tie fighter with x wing wings is a straight up uograde, it becomes way faster, way more manuverable, basically a way better tie interceptor. Meanwhile the x wing with tie wings... has basically no engines but sheilds and better power supply.

Those sloped wedge pieces on the landing gear seems to be absorbing the "lean" of the technic pylons in the Ball-and-X-Wing configuration. This set is actually quite good - less "cheap and nasty" than I was expecting, because I thought for sure that up close, these wouldn't look as good as they ought to. If someone didn't have these two sets yet, it would be great for someone to buy this for actual display value as well as play. I *WOULD* buy this set, if only for the fact that I already have some pretty good looking versions of the same two starfighters already. My only gripe is that there should have had one more figure affiliated with The Empire thrown in.

I’d have liked the Rebel Pilot to have an Imperial logo on it’s helmet as well as the Tie Pilot having the Rebel Alliance insignia on his helmet. Not sure what the content in the series is, but if the alt-reality is all upside-down, those would make for better figs, IMO.

I like this x wing way more than any other one they've done that has a wing mechanism to splay them, cus theres no huge gaps and the wings arent wobbly. This is a great set, i might get it

This was actually the first set in the wave I got (I was gifted it) and I was extremely surprised. I bashed this set much too harshly, and overall, this came out to be a really nice set of models with some ok minifigures (high end, but of course not a lego collector's dream selection) and is an extremely nice toy for kids. This is surprisingly a good one! Edit: I also received two extras of the long bars. really odd, and something I have never seen before as a long time collector

That Tie Fighter looks almost exactly like the standalone one released a few years back, except it has the cockpit window design of the recent Tie Bomber.

Doing something weird with the pilot figs like a color swap would have been cool.

Cool thing is that kids could probably look at this system and try to make their own pair of custom wings for the ships, or make TIE Interceptor wings for the TIE Fighter

My inner EU fan adores this. The Uglies are such a big part of the books, comics and games, and there are so many more types of uglies out there. That rebel pilot helmet is fantastic, and the other figures look great just as star wars rando civilians. Im actually really excited for this set

How this $55 X-wing (with S-foils closed) looks better than the $250 UCS one is beyond me. With the foils open? Yeah, it bugs me, but I think it's solvable with some mods.

I don't own a LEGO X-Wing fighter, and feel I should own one. If I was gonna get one, I'd get this set so that at least I have an X-Wing and TIE fighter on my shelf, since I own zero Lego Star Wars. My friend gave me a Millenium Falcon from The Force Awakens and I took it apart (with his permission) to make a new Lego castle.
